What's the catch here other than having SD8 Gen 1 and not 2?

    • +2

      Only 125w charging?

Edit - but I'm guessing the camera. I got the 30 fusion a week or so ago and it's brilliant but camera is only ok. No regrets though.

      What's the catch here ?
Android thirteen , pretty unimpressive but that's Motorola 👎

      • Android 13 is latest not in beta though

    • +3

Camera, always trash on Moto devices, otherwise everything else is almost perfect.

    • Apparently the RAW implementation is incredibly broken, but I feel like that's a real niche issue.

Mine arrived this morning and I'm actually incredibly impressed.

      • Build quality is pretty great; design isn't going to compete with the $2000 flagships, but I quite like it
      • 144 Hz screen, DC dimming options for those sensitive to OLED dimming
      • Speakers are fine (can't compete with iPhones/S23 Ultra); the Atmos settings give you EQ options
      • Their 'Ready For' DeX equivalent is super impressive - plug-and-play 4k desktop output, something that's super fiddly with DeX
      • A lot of cute little quality-of-life features (chop actions, twist actions, double-tap back actions)
      • Super speedy charging

For the price, it's a pretty easy recommend. Not sure how it stacks up against the Pixels and the Zenfone 9 that's currently on sale.

    • It's not IP rated which means no water resistance.

This or Oppo Find X5 Pro (nearly same price deal @ $649)? Which one is better phone, operating system, camera, etc..

    • +1

Motorola is better, closer to stock Android experience.

      • +1

Thanks, is this model the top of line for Motorola phones in Aust?

    • +3

Oppo Find X5 Pro. Camera's on another level. Competes with the Pixel 8 Pro, S23 ultra etc
Whereas the camera on the motorola is crap. Speedwise won't really notice a difference, though motorola have a slightly better cpu.

        Pixel 8 Pro…

Is that a typo or do you have a prototype or time machine?

      • I got the modded g cam app. Seems to improve the photos over the default camera app. Haven't gone too far into comparisons of other phones though.

      • Have you figured out what the deal is with the white exposure on the selfie? My gf obvs loves a selfie and her 5 year old pixel smashes my pro

    • -1

Where is it $649? That's the real MVP bargain…

      • -2

Last week deal direct from oppo, with any phone trade in, but expired few days ago.

        • -2

So what is the relevance of your question? Have you got a time machine?

          • +1

@xyron: It is difficult to explain, you won't understand.

            • -2

@huntabargain: If you can't explain it, that would suggest you don't understand either.

        • +2

          It was an amazing deal.

    • I believe the Motorola has more chance, if not already, to unlock the bootloader. So I guess more options in future when Motorola stops developing code for it. Oppo, from experience, basically no chance in getting the bootloader unlocked

      • Sorry too technical for me :) me no understand bootloader …

      • have you seen edge 10 or edge 20 custom rom dev ?

    • Where did you see the X5 Pro at $649? Because I would definitely buy it now.
      Thanks.

      • So I take it you consider the Oppo X5 Pro is better buy than this Motorola Edge 30 Ultra! From specs wise it seemed on par with the X5 and thoughts Google owned the brand so would be close to raw Android without the bloatware.. Oh well, I think I will wait for the release of Pixel 8 Pro in Oct.
The Oppo deal covered X5 pro for $649 and X5 for $499, The X5 is still available.

  • If this has a headphone jack im sold

    • +1

      No jack.

    • +2

I have the Edge 30 Pro. Motorola shipped it with wired headphones that plug into the USB/charging port. So was a nice surprise.

    • The 30 ultra also comes with a usb c headset like pma got as written on the motorola site

    • Pretty sure you could get a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter.

  • Is this phone updated to android 13?

    • +1

One review stated: Motorola committed 3 OS updates and 4 yrs security

    • should be, my 30 fusion got it when I forced an update

    • pretty sure yes

  • +5

Don't forget that you can connect this to a monitor and use the phone as a desktop PC which is a great feature.

    • a clever heuristic

  • Considering this or Razr 2022.

  • +1

Note this has an IP52 rating, almost no water resistance.

  • +1

I think the catch would be android updates. Motorola has only promised until Android 14 for now and event that may or may not happen.

  • If it shaves my beard it will break the deal.

  • no SD card slot

  • Does anyone know if Telstra VoLTE works on this?

    • I am also looking to know this if someone could confirm volte and vowifi working on this?

  • +1

Great phone picked one up yesterday fast AND easy tranferred data from Edge20 Fusion to this -SD slot not necessary as 256 GB Needs repeated updates to bring it to July 23 software Super fast charging even using a 35W brick

  • After you get the phone many updates will come, and finally Android 13 To be honest Android 13 superficially seems almost same as Android 12 running on my Edge 20

  • Have a pixel 6 pro with a damaged screen, cost to fix is like $400. Would you just buy one of these instead ??

  • +1

This phone is brilliant coming from a pixel 6 pro I think it’s even better. Super fast
