Last day of the deal, called them up to confirm (nothing for Prime Day, just the inferior Samyang and even that was from Amazon UK.

0.95% surcharge on card & PayPal payments.

This lens shouldn't need an introduction, but if you're after something for out and about, and don't need 24mm or 28mm wide, than the 35mm F2.0 wide end will be a godsend for street photography, and it goes all the way up to 150mm F2.8 for portraits.
Reviews are excellent, wide open or stepped down this lens delivers.

Going to replace my 70-180mm with this as I'm primarily a 35mm user (Still keeping my Sigma 35/1.2 of course).

EDIT: Don't forget $44.49 from CashRewards

  • Amazing sharp lens.

  • +1

    35-150mm F2-2.8 is crazy… i don't shoot wider than 35mm anyway.

i don't shoot Sony Alpha anymore but if I were to go back i'll deffo pick this lens up.

    • 35mm is something awesome

  • It is obviously a heavy and bulky lens but very good.

    • Saves me a trip to the gym!

    • perfect travel lens imo. it's the only time whereby i actually have the mental energy to carry around a huge camera and huge lens.

      • IMHO the perfect travel lens would be the Tamron 28-200mm F2.8-5.6. That is lighter although the 35-150mm is definitely the better lens.

        • only 2.8 at 28mm tho. Around 150-mark it won't be F2.8 either.

i think a longer focal length at 35mm, and shorter reach of 150mm is a good compromise to have F2 and F2.8 at both ends.

From experience weight isn't too much of an issue when travelling, especially when you have a very solid body with well-designed grip. it's the dimension of the lens that's the issue, and all zoom lenses with half-decent optics suffer from this.

          • @dukeGR4: Yeah only F2.8 at the wide end. I've seen a lot of pictures from this lens and they are more than capable for the job. Obviously if weight does not matter, then by all means the 35-150mm.

  • How is the Samyang inferior? I had a quick look and found this review that put the Samyang ahead.

      ⚠⚠⚠⚠IMPORTANT UPDATE ⚠⚠⚠⚠

A number of you have commented saying that the results I recieved from the Tamron lens (particularly when shooting objects at a distance) didn't allign with the quality created by their own copies of this lens. Thank you again to everyone who tested this and gave feedback! I have since returned the lens to Tamron Europe and they have today confirmed that the lens sample that they supplied to me for this test was indeed faultly. Below is an official statement.

To be honest the fact he didn’t redo his review or instead merely left that as a comment rather then edit his description is a bit tool-ish.
He’s basically giving misinformation at this point and not even prominently correcting it.

      • He did a new video in May, I see, explicitly on this. That said, this just means he has a dud unit (so my claim is based on a faulty Tamron review unit), not that Samsung is inferior. I couldn't find much even on Reddit comparing the two and showing Samsung to be worse.

        • I've trawled all available reviews, and while both lenses perform well, the Tamron has the edge in delivering more consistent sharpness and better focus.
That's the take away, you are right side by side comparisons are rare.

      • The Tamron is definitely better while Samyang isn't all that bad. But on the Sony Alpha group, a couple of people had QC issues or consistencies with the Samyang.

Tom Calton is also on the FB group and most of the people there thinks he is a shill. He only posts there when he is doing a new product review and regularly uses 'his wife' as the model (not my opinion but I am quoting the people on that FB group).

    • I've seen that the QA and warranty is not as good.

      • That's fair. I have the 35mm f1.8 and thankfully it seems decent. A shame they do have a rep for quality variance, it definitely curbs enthusiasm when buying online

I read this as "quality violence"

  • I heard this lens is very heavy so I chosen Tamron 28-200 and I was pretty happy to travelling with
