  • How bad would it be if I play Genshin on this thing…

What a ridiculous reason to downvote. It's a classic retro emulation handheld game console. Do you really want to play the classic Nintendo games etc on something 1080p or higher on a 4" display? Gonna look blurry as.

If you looked at the review videos you'd see that the games look really good on the display.

      • I have no idea about these things but can I play my favourite ever game on this , the original and the best Wonder Boy? I’d buy it just for that one game.

        • +3

Yep you certainly can. Obviously it'll depend on what game system you'll be emulating. The Master System version for example runs smoothly on the Anbernic RG351P and that has 1GB RAM with a much weaker quad-core CPU.

          • @Clear: I want the original arcade version.

            • +2

@furiousgeorge: Ah yep. The original arcades run off the emulation system called MAME. It's certainly possible to get that.

      Iv purchased a rg35xx which has a

3.5-inch IPS full viewing angle, OCA full lamination/ 640*480

I was surprised how good the quality of the display was, bright, colourful and no ghosting

Granted i mainly use it for gbc and the odd psx game

I ordered this and it sat pending for 8 days. I hassled support towards the end and was told it would be shipped in 2 days, after 2 days they said it will arrive at their warehouse next week. Finally got a refund yesterday

Credit to clear for trying to help, but it didn't make a difference

  • Couldn't get a deal on powkiddy x55?

The ol' pay more for less deal is it? For $297.35 delivered from the US you get a slightly larger 5" 854x480 screen for the cost of a much weaker RK3326 quad-core CPU with 1GB RAM and for A$80 more than GeekBuying's regular price of US$139.99 (~A$210.20) .

Seems like alot to play up to ps1 and N64.

Can't the Miyoo Mini plus do the same (with different form factor) but for like $70.

    • The other difference you're forgetting is the inclusion of Android in this. So it's intended to do both the emulation up to PS1 smoothly and Android gaming at the same time.

      • +1

Tbf, I think also saying that up to PS1/DC/N64 smoothly is selling this chip short. Sure, it can get a bit game-dependent, but it can run the higher-end systems quite well and do so out of the box too. Citra Vulkan unlocks a ton of games, and it can even run some Switch games surprisingly. It's not like some of the other cheaper handhelds where anything further than PS1 etc are just a no-go.

        • You're right. I was thinking of PS2 where that's still a struggle across multiple platforms but the Switch is smooth.

          • @Clear: 3DS you mean ;) that being said I still was decently impressed by performance on Skyline for some Switch games so I suppose that's still relevant. Edit: actually forgot that it performs very nicely on Vita too, so that's another one.

          • @Clear: Better to under promise anyway

    • +1

This'll get a decent amount of GC and PS2 emulation happening. The T618 is the same chip in the Retroid Pocket 3+ and Flip.

  • New to these devices. What would you recommend to play SNES games?

    • +7

Either Miyoo mini plus or Anbernic 35xx is more than enough.

    • +2

Very happy with the RG35XX for SNES

  • +1

I have a Retroid Pocket 2+ which seems to have similar specs to this, yet it cost $99 USD (I think I paid $165AUD delivered). I realise the RP2+ is no longer for sale but the RP3+ is @ $149 USD and has a nicer screen and same specs. Why would I buy the Anbernic?

    • +1

Personally I have an RG35XX for everything PS1 and down and I am currently considering an RG353M as an upgrade so I can get my Dreamcast and PS2 groove on.

In terms of comparing the Retroid, I believe the main difference will be the L3/R3 inputs on the sticks.

edit: it also has Hall joysticks I believe, which are a seperate upgrade for the retroid devices, not that that is justification for the much greater cost

      • Don't get the 353M if you're after PS2 mate. You're gonna be disappointed.

    • For me it's the 4" 4:3 screen. The 16:9 screen on the RP3+ really doesn't matter for what these are capable of emulating (or at least what I'd want to emulate on it), and the RP2+ has a smaller screen whilst not being much smaller.

      • +1

I also use my RP3+ for gamepass/cloud which looks great on the 16:9 screen

  • For this price, I would get a second hand switch.

    • +2

A switch is a lot bigger, (especially if assuming a V1 switch as that would be required to emulate without a modchip), and nowhere near as compact and simple to put in a bag.

  • Got a 15 buck telescopic controller for my phone to do the same.

    • +2

      If that works for you…

This has a market though. Some people like a separate device. Some people don't want to play 4:3 content on a 21:9 device with the black bars. These machines just do their job well.
