  • I can't see anything about the $17 off on their site?

  • Recently try to renew180GB plan as existing long time Amaysim customer, Amaysim rep refused to offer anything less than $200

    • So no recharging for existing customers (UNLIMITED 60GB)?

  • Good deal but not the lowest.

  • +2

Seems like they do VoWi-Fi since August last year too.

      • Wrong, I've had it for over a year now.

          • +1

@beesider: Nope, I can clearly see the wifi call icon. On apple and android.

            • @Quarter Pounder: Apparently they enabled it unannounced as there's nothing on their website. I just manually enabled it and can confirm it's working, you're right.

The question is, why was it disabled by default as for other SIMs it was auto-enabled on Android.

  • Never been with Amaysim, Good price, but not sure I'd be willing to commit to 12 months right away.

Can you receive SMS texts while overseas? My last provider didn't do this and it made traveling very awkward.

    • +1

Yes, my family member switched to $10 PAYG plan before going overseas and could receive text messages while over there.

      • they are changing it now.

        • do you know what they're changing? Ability to receive SMS messages or something else? Thanks

            Big Love,
            Amaysim

            • @the1doood: I purchased one of their roaming packs before heading over to Malaysia, which is listed as a destination that is supported.

Once there the amaysim Sim failed to roam on any of their networks, I had to buy a local sim and use that… your usage may vary, proceed with caution and all that jazz

              • +1

@THICKnSLOW: You can always try getting your money refunded.

Amaysim would have lodged a roaming application with the national carrier, and its probably the incumbent telco that didnt bother processing the application, because theres no blowback unless people complain.

            • @the1doood: Roaming means making calls - and I expect that to be a paid service.

I don't even mind not being able to receive calls -there are other ways to communicate by voice.

The big one for me is just simple receiving texts. I was with mate when I went overseas last. Could not receive texts at all.

This meant I was locked out of online banking and could not use my Credit cards online as they kept wanting to send me a verification text.

Luckily I had a Plan B, but it did change the way I spent money to make sure I didn't run out.

I would no go overseas again with a mobile provider that wont allow you to receive texts.

    • +3

I use amaysim and was overseas last month - got texts, calls, everything with no issues.

      • Did you have to pay for roaming to receive calls?

        • +1

No. I did end up getting roaming after a couple days, but I received texts and calls with no issues prior to that.

    • I didn't receive SMS oversea but apparently you can add $20 pack to do that for a year, call included.

  • I'd go with Kogan over this if not going with Boost for better reception.

    • +4

Why, did you find a similar priced deal? Also Kogan uses the Vodafone network, Amaysim is Optus so it depends on your location.

      • +6

I have been with all three and I'd go Boost any day if reception is a concern it is in its own league and offers 5G. Not seeing much difference between Vodafone and Optus in urban areas and they are both quite hopeless if you travel a bit further.

Whenever Kogan runs a deal it offers way better value than this. Well only thing is they don't do a small data package one like this 60Gb here I guess.

        • Optus has better data speeds, Kogan/Vodafone towers are well overloaded especially in city, slow data around 40mbps. I've been in both camps and like you have said Boost is the best bang for buck on yearly.

  • +2

I've been with Amaysim for over 2 years with 0 issues related to them.

My only complaint is that I can't donate or pass on my banked data (on a plan). I've currently got 984GB and there's no way I'll ever be able to use that…

    • +6

      Cancel your home internet 😂

    • Im at 1.76TB and counting 🥹

      • Cancel your home internet and tether or hotspot.

        • Optus network slows to 2-3mbps in peak hour here in Western suburbs Melbourne. That's with a 5G MMwave modem capable of 4G cat 18.

It's usable, but just usable lol

  • eSim available?

    • Yep!

      • +1

This could very well be the reason for me to switch as this is likely the cheapest eSIM option currently.

Currently on Moose and general very happy (i.e. no issues and when I dealt with their CS several years ago, they were very good) but them not supporting eSIM (and that their new customer plans are much better than existing custom plans) might very well be the reason for me to switch.

        • this was the very reason to switch to Amaysim. When travelling, having a free SIM slot for local SIM is well worth it!

    • It is but there website says it's limited to a few phones only. Pixel 7 and Samsung S23 range is not listed. Does anyone know why?

      • +1

        Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra or later
Google Pixel 4 / 4 XL or later

        Your phones should work.

  • +2

I recently took advantage of the $30 amaysim starter pack on special at Woolworths to get the 60GB/Year Plan for $36, just bought 4 ($9 each), activated 1 as PAYG, and convinced a chat rep to add the credit from the other 3 bringing my credit to $120, from there I just switched to the plan I wanted.

Definitely something to consider when trying to find the best price for these plans if you can get starter packs cheaper, maybe something like this

    • +1

It's highly unlikely everyone would be able to get away with that though.

      • +2

You're right, fair enough. Just something to note then, it's definitely possible.

  • the 20$ roaming friendly option is kinda nice, or there are better offers from other ISP?

  • +6

Buyer beware but their network is awful in Adelaide. We're talking about struggling to load Google here, for months. In multiple parts of the suburbs and the city. Everything got better when I swapped away.

Customer service just gives you the runaround with checking if the towers are down, restart your devices etc. No you idiots, you guys signed too many customers and bought too little bandwidth.

    • I have a similar experience around Brisbane and Ipswich. Some areas where I drop to 3g even in metro Brisbane. This is similar on my s22 and my partners iPhone 12.
I switched over from boost and have been disappointed since.

      • +1

haven't been disappointed, you mean? :P

i went to boost meself. it was ridiculous, could hardly get maps to work when driving with Amaysim. for a while i nearly considered changing my phone.

i was on a 12 month plan too. that sucked

    • +1

Similar in Canberra. Cant get a signal as soon as i walk inside any shop. Barely useable but good enough. Will be switching back to Boost when year is up.

      • Yep, agreed… ACT coverage is woeful. Had my daughter on them and she always complained of lack of signal.
Went to Woolies mobile (Telstra), and its a night and day difference.

      • +1

so, this is an Optus coverage and not Amaysim issue. Right?

        • Not sure. Have only been with Optus for 1 year in last 2 decades.

        • -1

could be, but amaysim may have cheaped out on the amount of bandwidth they got from optus

          • @Pusheencat: What do you actually mean by that? i don't believe they have any control over that, from what i'm aware they as most resellers for Optus have access to the full 4g network… if anything it is just Optus being shite in your area. Personally not a fan of Optus or Vodafone where i live in Sydney.

  • +2

Only thing it lacks.. International calls!

  • Can I get this if I am on their month to month plan or is this for new customers only?

  • In many occasions, people see some good deals before the end of 12 months and have to choose between terminating this early or to missing the other deal.

  • I sign up on the previous half price deal

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/776176

Just warning to those of you who plan to switch to them with you primary number….. DON'T

Data speed is very soso, and call quallty also not very good.

It was ok for me because the number I port to them was a second / backup number.

    • I have found that they are really slow as well

    • +1

      Welcome to the Optus network

      • It's not Optus, I had proper Optus connection for a long time, most area speed is good. Amaysim even it's on Optus is not the same.

  • Any one month specials at the moment?

    • +1

      $12 40gb plus cashback / $18 80gb plus cb

  • damm, just rsigned the other day as the contract was expiring

  • The 60Gb plan I purchased last year includes free international calls to 28 countries but Amaysim has since removed that 😑

    • +4

That might be one of the supermarket starter pack deals like this. Check catalogues every week. This deal was in May which was not too long ago.

    • +1

Same with me.. But i manage to get a discount credit from them and pay 90 for renewal 12 months and include international call. Have to lose the data bank though. So start fresh 60 gb for next 12 months…

      • Good to know as my plan expires next month. How did you manage that?

        • +1

Just telling them I have been with them for 3 years and ask nicely :)

And don't take no and keep asking for it !!

  • I had an bad experience about Cashback. Pls be ceraful.
    Take a screenshot…

  • @shxhshzhz Can you please fix the tag to Prepaid Mobile Plan?

  • +1

Thanks OP. I've been looking for a plan for my kid's Spacetalk watch. I guess this 60GB deal is as good as I'm going to find.

    • +1

Unless you can wait until black friday/cyber monday where last year they did 1/2 price for the 60GB deal, which is what I got for my son's phone.

      • Good tip! I hoped someone might chip in with some advice like that - thanks!

        • +1

One easy way is to search OzBargain on Amysim to see what past deals have been offered (and how frequently those deals were offered).

  • Is this an upzised cashback?
Asking as on the amaysim site the reduced price for the pack with bonus data is valid till late August.
If the cashback is also expected to stay at $35 might as well wait 2 weeks.

  • +1

I am confused by this deal.
The cashback for each for the 365 days is listed as $0

    $120 12-month Long Expiry Plan with 60GB : $0
    $150 6-month Long Expiry Plan with 150GB : $0
    $200 12-month Long Expiry Plan with 180GB : $0

Where or how do I get the cashback rates listed or has it expired early?

    • +1

Expired. They must have switched these three to $0 after seeing people getting these good prices.

  • No more cashrewards….:(

  • i love amysims for one reason…able to get chosen phone number
