Any good? Was considering a Reolink system.

    • I use standalone one for backyard and it seems to work fine. You can store on a card in the camera or use their cloud service (approx. $5 per month). I used cloud for some time and then moved to local storage. I bought from Officeworks and installed it myself with no issues.

    • +1

Reolink's ecosystem is predominantly centred around wired PoE cameras - it's apples and oranges.

If you want 24/7 surveillance of an area, I would strongly recommend wired cameras as they are more robust and reliable. Having said that, wireless cameras can be very effective when used appropriately and not needing to run cables can be a major advantage.

  • How does this compare to eufy?

Is the system recording constantly or just event recording? 512GB max storage is not last long…

    • I assume they use the same Tapo app, I just got the C210 the other day and chucked a 256gb card in it. You can adjust the continuous recording, detection record or don't record for every hour of the day/day of the week through the in-app scheduler.

      • I got C210 and had WiFi connection issue when I set up the camera, it always saying ‘can’t get IP address’. I change 2.4g WiFi settings for many time and can’t fixed the issue. Could you please advise how to fix it if you have any ideas? Thanks.

        • +1

Not too sure sorry freeman. From a quick google this came up Tapo Forum - See Comment #7

          • @codyy: Thanks mate, it looks like many people have the same issue which tp-link didn’t fixed yet.

    • +5

As it is battery powered, I am almost certain it's event recording only.

i did some reading up and they are pushing to a subscription model - where you pay a monthly fee for 30 days of continuous recording.

    • +4

They seem to have a 7 day and 30 day plan. Although the 7 day plan is not available in AU.

The plans are for 1,2,3 or 10 cameras. Given this is a 4 pack, you'll need the 10 plan.

Price is $16.49pm or $164.99 per year.

      This seems expensive!

      Pricing here:
      https://www.tp-link.com/au/support/faq/3408/

      • thanks - will only set up 2-3 cameras so could go for the smaller plan.

i wonder if anyone has experience with other brands/options?

        • +1

No experience with the cameras but Google Nest is $9pm regardless of the number of cameras (30 days).

        • depends if you want the video in cloud - otherwise there are others like some eufy (like the outdoor standalone usb one), and the imou series that record to a local sd.

    • +2

The subscription service isn't for continuous recording. It only records and saves to cloud when it detects motion.

For continuous you need their wired cameras with micro SD slot. To reduce power consumption the battery models only ever record when motion is detected.

    • Can you use it without subscription tho? Looks like only Eufy have that option and they are leaking your videos…

    • +1

There's no cost to use these unless you want to use cloud storage.
On some of their cheaper cameras features like person detection also require a subscription.

      • If they do not record continiously, and without subscription for the person detection, what are they recording then?

        • +1

For C420 camera person detection is working regardless of subscription. I just bought this yesterday. It's quite good and they record it in their "home base" and files are not encrypted. So even if someone steals your camera and reset it, you'll still be able to view the video :).. Apparently in eufy this is not the case.

  • This looks like a more affordable and reliable system for indoor use? I use eufy outdoors, but don’t have camera indoors except one looking at the crate of the dog lol

    • eufy pan & tilt is great. I have 2 of those and works like a charm with continuous recording and human detection.

      • They are good, but I will need an electrician to connect them to a power source if I want to hide the cable behind the walls. :(

  • I hate how these camera never specify recording intervals / continuous recording. Anyone know if Eufy has this constraint?

    • i specifically bought the eufy outdoor standalone because i wanted continuous recording (literally 24/7) whether or not this will kill the sd card prematurely yet is another thing…

      • Hi which model in Eufy did you buy? I’m looking something wireless and can continuous recording.

  • +1

Anyone know how good the battery life are on these actually?

  • Can you configure these to record to an RTSP server?

  • Do these play well with Home Assistant and Frigate?

    • Looks like there's a HACS integration that can control the cameras, and are capable of RTSP so I expect that they can work with Frigate.

      • For this model the integration only supports control. You can't access the stream.

  • How do these compare to the Tapo C200 ones?

  • +2

For those dont want to spend this much, unsure of the product quality, or does not need 4 cameras. Try single Tapo C210 first, I have good experience, and it only $52 at JB last week, or $40-50 on Amazon.

    • -1

Do you happen to have a weblink of single. I tried but couldn't find it on either seller.

      • Sorry links are not allowed, but just google Tapo c210, the first 2 come up for me is Amazon and JBHIFI

    • Tapo C210 is not the same as this. C210 is indoor wired pan & tilt. Other then both using same app there is no comparison between two.

      • I have 5 C200, which is the older version of C210.

I have 3 indoor and 2 outdoor with wooden cover. No cleaning, No maintenance, No failure yet.(can't remember how long but 3 years atleast)

I got one C210 from JB last Last week, and planing on getting another one this week from The Guys with my Concierge money.

    • C210 is not battery powered, and has a 3 mega pixel resolution, and has not weather protection. Hardly comparing apples to apples.

      • From the specs, they are both 2k resolutions.

C210 have remote pan and tilt function,

As for battery, and the end of the day, my experience is you will get frustrated climbing ladder and changing every often, and battery really don't last 180 days, at intense recording, you will be lucky to get a fortnight out of it.

As for weather proof, I have 2 c200 outdoor with only wooden cover for at least last 3 years, no failure yet.

I also have C320WS which is outdoor weather proof version. At the end of the day, since they both didn't fail, I really appreciate the remote pan and tilt, it allow you to see place where fixed angles cannot see.

I read online, if you (intruders) steal the camera or if the hub loses connection to the camera, the entire footage becomes unusable. I find that to be a fatal flaw and defeating the whole point of having it.

    • sounds like a weird flaw…what if camera runs out of batteries causing a disconnection to hub ?

      • That's okay as the error basically says "please connect the camera", so you can just charge it and then it would be fine.

    • That’s the downside of video data being stored on a data card within the camera I think? If recordings are regularly pushed to a Cloud storage they can be accessed if the camera is disabled or removed, but the downside is an ongoing fee, again I think that’s the case.

But there is still some value in the camera recording if it can alert the owner via an always online app (provided it has that functionality). Let’s face it, a burglar may be obscured, or disguised so the recording itself may have little value anyway, and the real benefit is knowing an intruder is present rather than gathering actual video data.

      • +2

I saw the setup video and it shows that the SD card can be inserted into the Hub instead of the cameras

  • The C420S2 in this Kit dont have rtsp/onvif yet, not sure if Tapo will enable that or not usually battery based cameras dont have it. Also the 180 days is based on 20 events per day but you could easily go over this per day in high traffic areas (events). I have C210/c110's they have it but need a power socket nearby makes it open to use with software or hardware nvr's.

JB also have 20% off the A200 solar panel and A100 spare battery. The A100 battery is larger capacity than the batteries that come with the camera system.

      • Should the battery show as $49 or $39 dollars?
        Getting conflicting information

  • Is there also a barcode for this deal? Went to JB Hi Fi today to try to redeem this deal but the code wasn’t working for them so I didn’t end up getting them.

    • The store found one online for me…seems to be heaps floating around somehow, just ask them. Goggle "JB HI-FI instant deals" to sign up too.

    • Should be just the one code I think.

Try to purchase online with this code - 92BYZY0X08E53W

      • +1

Thanks guys, went back today they asked for the email which is suppose to have a barcode. I didn’t have the email so they ended up putting the code in and it worked

        • I think it is a good deal: particularly since you can just put a SD card in the main hub to record. And it is friendly to the Amazon Echo Family or Google Nest screen devices too.
