after 2m of cabling, doesnt the quality start to degrade, unless its reinforced and so on

    • yeah I'm thinking the same thing - there is a rating for the thickness of the copper wire or 'strand count' or something like that.
Still at this price it seems 'worth' it to find out.

    • Can anyone suggest a good HDMI cable for a PVR to an LED TV? I'd need at least 2m.. would I get a bad quality picture then?

    • Not with digital, no lose in quality like analogue cables, you either get signal or you don't. I ran a 10m DVI cable with HDMI to DVI on one end and had no problems

  • I looked around on the internet as there seems to be a debate going around but I found that most people didn't have any major problems with it. You wouldn't notice the difference.

I'm gonna find out myself when it arrives. I need 10m anyway to connect PC to TV and there aren't other option except to stream it.

  • 28AWG should only be used for HDMI cables up to 5m.
I am torn here, as I need 2 x 10m cables… But not sure if I want to risk things not working (consistently).

EDIT: Should point out that it isn't an issue of image quality, if these works, the image will be as good as any other cable as HDMI is a digital signal… So it will either work perfectly, or not (think analogue TV vs digital TV).

The issue will be interference. With 'only' a 28AWG cable, at 10m it is more likely to cut in and out if you have electronics around it (as most people would).

  • At 10m, I presume there's going to be some decent effort put into laying the cable properly.

I wouldn't be skimping on such a cable when you're spending thousands on other hardware, only to have the signal potentially degrade between your source and receiver and then having to redo the cabling.

Do it once and do it right.

Personally, for my 20m run I went with 24awg from www.ezyhd.com.au. Picture is flawless. I'd definitely do the same for 10m.

  • Cnet did a lot of testing and they basically said not to get dirt cheap HDMI cables because often they aren't of a consistent quality, but don't waste your money on brands like Monster etc. I'd say about $30 for 10m is pretty decent.
