      • Good idea, yeah companies like these are usually pretty good with their customer support. Keep us posted with how you go.

    • How do you check for battery health?

      • +2

Open command prompt (as admin, shift right click run as administrator) and type:

        powercfg /batteryreport /output "C:\battery_report.html"

Then open the html and compare the design capacity vs the full charge capacity.

        Reference:
        https://www.windowscentral.com/generate-battery-report-windo…

        • Thank you. Yes my battery is also 39K out of the 56K design capacity so around 70% as well.

    • +1

Lucky you. Picked up mine today and it has some light scratches on the side and bottom.

Battery health is also showing at 70% of the original health. I might pick up a battery replacement for around $80 on eBay.

Anyone have any ideas how long it 70% lasts with general browsing and work?

      • maybe you don't need battery replacement, check my comment below

    • I've managed to improve the battery health from 70% to 90%. Please see my comment below

  • Anyone notice their screen brightness differing vastly depending on what angle you're looking at it at? It's almost like it has a privacy screen installed on it. This is with the privacy mode turned on and off.

    • that's the side effect of the privacy screen installed. even with it turned off, contrast reduces significantly towards the corners of the screen if you are just looking at the screen at 90 degree angle

      • Interesting, I was not aware these had a physical privacy screen installed. Was this mentioned somewhere? I had the same model as a work laptop previously and don’t remember the screen looking like this.

        • Definetely not mentioned in the description.

        • yes, it seems mine and at least some other units (potentially all?) are fitted with the 700nit outdoor grade panel plus privacy screen

perhaps I wouldn't have ordered one if I knew this since those privacy screens are a nuisance

          here's the spec page: https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06074000

my unit (and everyone else with a privacy screen) have this display option:

33.8 cm (13.3 in) diagonal FHD IPS eDP with PSR BrightView LED-backlit touch screen, direct bonded with Corning Gorilla Glass 4, 700 cd/m², 100% sRGB (1920 x 1080)

which doesn't match the eBay description (400nit FHD mentioned there)

  • the biggest bummer which I didn't realize before is that the WiFi module is a rather ancient 8625 which is exotic M.2 1216 format and is soldered down it seems.

WWAN works a treat though, so I already put in the SIM card that came with the Optus A8 tablet. time to sell it I guess

  • This laptop arrived and the screen sucks. It unusable with the privacy feature on or off. I searched a little bit and can see the panel viewing angle is 85 degrees which is shocking. To be honest even if I try to look directly at is with 90 degrees angle the screen still is super blurry and grainy and misty. Turning the brightness to the maximum makes it usable but the display quality still sucks like hell.
It comes with Sim slot with LTE feature but With this screen it is really unusable.
And my eyes are painful even after a little while using it. The screen ruined the product.

    • Send it back. I got mine and it's great: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/788586 different deal tho

      • +1

This is a much better buy congratulations great laptop

    • as I mentioned above they put the wrong screen in the description. they said 400nit touch, while it's actually the 700nit privacy screen option. can return it on these grounds. doesn't match the specs provided

  • Mine has some minor cosmetic wear on the body, but the screen is great and the battery is 76% - very happy for the price.

However, one of the tests I did was turning on HDR in the settings, connecting to my 4k monitor playing a Dolby Vision 4k 120fps demo at maximul quality. It does struggle quite a bit. Is this normal? I've tried it in both Edge and Chrome, with everything else closed. The wi-fi download speed test result is 46 mpbs (vs 53 mbps on my current flagship phone) on a 50 mpbs plan.

Missed out on this deal but got this instead for $280 from the same seller. ..

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/195837866289

Still a few available. Hope it's okay.

Received mine today and the battery health report is 70%.

But after changing the battery mode in BIOS from "Maximize my battery health" to "let hp manager my battery" and installing the hp power manager software,
    the battery health became 90%!

"Maximize my battery health" mode is the default option and it says: "Maximize your battery health by lowering your available full charge capacity. Under this mode, your battery runtime per full charge will decrease."

So I think 90% capacity is true according to HP's description.

    • That's a very cool tip, thanks!

none of my messages sent to the seller got a response (about battery capacity, about screen quality, about quite excessive wear on the body), I decided to give up and returned. used eBay plus return feature and it's in the mail now.

    • +1

It's disappointing that they didn't respond.

I messaged the seller yesterday evening about some issues (battery, deep scratches and screen issue) and will return the laptop if I don't hear from them as well.

      • guy above says he fixed the battery life using some hp tool and bios setting or something

  • Ok, its about time i shared my experience with these notebooks… I've given the seller time to rectify the issues until now, but i'm currently on my 2nd faulty machine. Are there others who got duds or had the similar issues? Surely i'm not the only one here. Both notebooks have had several faults inc dead USBs, bad batteries, bad speakers, screen issues, broken cases (dropped), and have been in very poor physical conditon and very dirty. These are not refurbished, heck they arn't even cleaned or checked over properly.

    • +1

Thanks for sharing your experience, so glad I didn't buy this. I spent more on my new laptop but atleast no issues. Loving my lenovo Yoga C940

    • +2

Just a follow up on my issue for anyones information. The seller was decent enough to work with and sorted it out in the end. Still i had to actually go into their warehouse and choose a 3rd suitable replacement myself, but I got a good one in the end. Their quality control definately leaves a lot to be desired.
