  • Any feedback on these models?

    • +3

      They're great.

    • +2

I bought from these guys. Great service and the products are good. Used but well refurbished

    • +3

I have one of these as my work supplied laptop and I think it’s a great model. I’ve been impressed.

Only issues I’ve noticed is the screen contrast goes a bit weird when trying to compensate for bright light (e.g. you’re working outside) and the camera can’t make up its mind with brightness settings sometimes.

      • +2

A little bit of electrical tape over the light sensor fixed this for me, can go to max brightness without the weird contrasting

    • +2

I used to have these at work. Great at the time. Good build quality and look really nice. I’d be aware the G3 is around 4-5 years old though.

  • 1 year warranty.

I believe that's the warranty policy for items bought through their website. Looks like it's only 6 months for eBay orders, here's whats in the description:

All products are covered with a 180 days RTB warranty unless specified different

  • Excuse the noob question, but is the screen refresh rate 60hz or 120 hz?

    • +4

None of the spec sheets or reviews of this laptop mention a 120hz display

      https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06074000#AbT4
      https://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/laptops/hp-elitebook-x360-…

It would also be rather odd for an Elitebook to have a high refresh rate display. You typically don't need that in an office PC?

      • I suppose office laptops don't, but I'm looking to replace my old Asus 2-in-1 and 120hz is very attractive to me.

I've looked online and several sources say that it's 120hz, but as you mentioned, the official spec doesn't mention anything so I'm not sure.

      • +4

        Can find a SureView 120Hz 72% gamut LCD option as indicated by a F2 key privacy-switching icon in same 2018/2019 era 13" HP EliteBook 830 G5|G6 or 14" HP EliteBook 840 aka ZBook 14u G5|G6 or 15" HP EliteBook 850 aka ZBook 15u G5|G6.

These systems also have upgradeable 2xRAM slots and a bigger, quieter single-fan thermal design.
G6 systems might still have some remainder of their 3yr onsite warranty.

        • Any gamingish laptops that are good?

      • +1

It's actually not as odd a question as it might seem. I have owned Elitebook x360 1030 G2, G3 and G4 now. My i7 G2 had a Sureview screen that had terrible max brightness (about 250 nits), but also 120Hz refresh for some reason. Apart from being too dim in bright settings (even indoors sometimes), it was actually a great display.

I don't think any of the subsequent generations have anything over 60Hz though. Sureview seems to have gotten progressively worse too - my G4 with Sureview has the worst viewing angles I've experienced since 90s-era TN screens.

I just got an x360 1040 G9 for work and the screen (without Sureview) is back to 250 nits, after a run of 400-1000 nit screens on the other Elitebooks.

They've been great, reliable laptops overall, but HP sure likes to keep you guessing with its display options….

    • -3

      ita an actually 240Hz screen

      • +3

        Do you mean 240V charger?

    • it's actually 120hz

  • Comes with pen?

  • +4

Can I install a Linux distro on this?
    I use arch btw.

    • +34

Ah, the vegan distro. You don’t need to ask, they’ll tell you.

    • If you needed to ask, you don't use arch (btw).

Any idea on what the battery life on this as a refurb would be like?

    • +32

They "claim" over 80% but a Latitude 7400 I purchased from this company recently arrived dead flat, after charging and cycling the battery Windows Battery-Report showed the battery was around 50% capacity, in other words totally stuffed…. (All manufacturers class 80% as "End of life" because they drop off fast after that)

They would only replace the stuffed battery and supply what I purchased if I first removed the negative feedback, I'm not a fan of being basically blackmailed by dodgy companies so I sent it back for a refund…

They obviously don't refurb or check them as claimed, or they know they're stuffed and just hope the buyers don't notice:

    • +2

Varies quite a bit. I always budget for fitting a replacement battery.

    • Anyone know how much a battery replacement is and a reputable place?

      • +3

You can buy laptop batteries yourself for around ~$70 to ~$100 (depending in the battery model and supply). It's pretty easy to open up most laptops and replace the battery yourself.

I bought a laptop battery for my older HP Spectre 360 from this sketchy looking website. I paid with PayPal and 3 weeks later and mysterious package, wrapped with plenty of cheap packing tape was delivered to my door. Pretty sure it came from China (I'm assuming they don't keep their batteries in stock in AU). Either way, I got my laptop battery in one piece (decently packed, no damage) and chucked it in my laptop and booted her up, and it was working as expected.

        YMMV.

    • I bought one through a similar deal and though the battery works it's more of like a ups. I'm always looking for a power point.

Also the laptop swivel for the screen is not solid on 360 degree ones after 5 plus years (YMMV).

Still worth getting depending what you're after.

  • +1

how is light gaming on this laptop (valorant, roblox)? thinking of getting for my brother

    • Not great for that sort of gaming, as the GPU was pretty limited even at that time. It may be possible but would be very limited in capability.
Better to look for something with older Nvidia or AMD dedicated graphics if possible.

    • +2

      RIMWORLD will work fine.
i7-8650u 4c/8t has heaps of cpu grunt (even for ~~6 yrs old) but the HD620 igpu will be lacking.
Search youtube for HD620 and see what frames you get.

  • +1

Is the screen IPS and bright ?

  • +1

I assume the ‘refurbishment’ doesn't included replacing the battery like Apple devices does.

    • +3

      Correct

    • I did not no apple refurb did this.

  • +4

    Its 60Hz guys

  • Looks to be better than the recent dell refurb deal today https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/788586

    • +4

I posted and bought that one. 10th gen i7 v 8th gen i5. i don't know the performance difference. Notebookcheck rate them about the same, but this was released in 2018, the Dell in 2020. The Dell is also easier to upgrade and service.

They're both good deals, just depends on your use case.

      • Thanks for sharing.

I bought this one. Both deals look to be good and I normally use Dell but the price on this is certainly a win.

It is a couple years older than the Dell latitude but it is built as an ultra book or the Dell XPS equivalent so quality should be there. Although Dell does has a slightly better/newer processor https://nanoreview.net/en/cpu-compare/intel-core-i7-8550u-vs…

  • +5

I bought a surface from them and the keyboard had coffee stain on it. I had to clean it myself. Suggest people to avoid.

    • +7

My 4 purchases from them over the years have all been "Not as described", or defective… None have been refurbed or checked as claimed.

      • +5

And yet, over the years, you've kept going back. What happened to 'once bitten' ?

        • +2

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me, … you can't get fooled again

        • +1

It's been over a few year period, live in hope I just got unlucky duds, and it's not too much of a big deal to return them with eBay Plus free returns… The recent one was a major annoyance though, I'm kicking myself for giving them another chance…

3 out of the 4 duds were major issues that should have been picked up, an i5 when it should have been an i7 (cpu had been switched from factory), 12gb of mismatched ram when it should have been 16gb, and the recent stuffed battery… (The other one was a stuffed micro-HDMI port with lots of bent pins)…

It's pretty obvious "refurb" equates to a wipe over, make sure it boots up, an automated install of Win11, and that it, they clearly don't check the battery, specs, or anything…

          • +1

@FLICKIT: There is nothing wrong with your purchase history. Many people are willing to give a good price a chance more than once before writing off a vendor completely. Buying a product brand new is a different experience than buying a refurb for less than half the price it was new.

Thanks for the warning. Much eaiser to understand than the usual flippant comments that say they bought once and will never again because their experience is the golden standard.

      • -2

        Slow learner?

  • +2

I bought one to give to my mum. Fingers crossed no major issues and hopefully the battery condition is as advertised. I'll edit this comment once I receive it and I'll provide my experience/feedback on the condition of the laptop.

    • +13

noice. I got one to give to your mom, too

      • +13

I was going to give it to your mum, but the line was too long!

        • she's listing those on eBay already! no discounts for you, she said

    • +3

Hopefully so as I got one too

One review for the laptop on the sellers page suggests it went well

  • Hi i am pretty dumb with computers would this be any faster than a i3-10110U acer Aspire 5 laptop with 8gb Ram thanks…

  • Hi guys I'm from Melbourne, any idea how much it would cost to get battery replacement and installed? What companies would you recommend for this that offers good price as well please? Really interested in purchasing this laptop any advice would be greatly appreciated

    • +3

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGvh_OuKn30

DIY looks simple enough and batteries range from about 40-90 depending on genuine or oem

      • Thank you for sharing ☺

    • I got a replacement recently for my x360 1030 G4 from APAC in Moorabbin. They seem to do lots of spare parts for schools etc. The battery health was a bit low (in the 80s), so I took it back, but 2nd one was the same. I think batteries for these models have just been sitting on shelves for too long. They were good about the return though FWIW.

  • can this handle photoshop editing?

    • Slow but sure

  • With LTE?

2 Thunderbolt™ (USB Type-C™ connector); 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (charging); 1 headphone/microphone combo; 1 HDMI 1.4; 1 External Nano SIM slot for WWAN (Cables are not included.)

    • @Calmago

  • Hi Win 11 means home or pro edition?

  • CSGO and Modern Strike ok?

  • +1

my work uses HP laptops models x360
the battery life is subpar, around 4 hours MAX, on 50% brightness, and that is a brand new laptop (12th gen intel)

    • +1

From what i read 12th gen intels are known for not the best battery life.

      • +2

apparently nor are the 10th or 11th gens on our older laptops

  • I bought the Lenovo Yoga X370 for $248 last week. I thought it was a great buy for my purposes. However, this has me tempted. What are people's thoughts on comparison?

    • I bought from same deal but it’s X380. I think yoga they’re slightly better at least they kind of thinkpad. Built are great, especially keyboard. But mine conditions wasn’t perfect.

      • Your X380 came with 8 or 16gb? What is wrong with it? I'm thinking of buying one for myself

        • +1

8GB Nothing wrong but it is a heavy used mark on touchpad.

  • +3

Don’t expect too much, these third party “refurbished” are crap in every way… Unless they are OFFICIALLY REFURBISHED BY THE BRAND.

  • Are they easy to upgrade on SSD?

  • Those horizontal bezels are massive, especially compared to the XPS.

    • True, but in the hand they're super rigid and tough compared with an XPS 13 chassis.

      • Tbh, I've never felt that the XPS was fragile - just slick and sexy, and I've used both the Ultrabook and the 2-in-1 versions.

Having said that, I've taken the plunge at this price.

  • Out of stock by the looks :( anyone got anything similar?

  • +2

I bought one of these. It was a replacement after they sent out the wrong one. That took a couple of weeks but they were helpful. I'm really happy with it for the price, nice and clean and everything working and nice screen. I replaced the SSD with a 1Tb one from Amazon and it's good to go. The battery isn't the greatest as you'd expect for a laptop a few years old. Maybe 2 hours?

    • +2

2 hours is a bit bad. Refurbs per ebays policy I believe should have 80% of the capacity left.

  • How do these stack up against a surface pro 6/7?

  • Any chance this can run DaVinci Resolve?

  • +2

I think I am using this model right now.

    • good/OK battery
    • nice screen
    • I7 good
    • Mx150 card 8w.. complete shit for gaming.
    • Struggles a little bit with a 4K external monitor sometimes (best to use USBC to DP)

Maybe mine is a slightly different model.

  • +1

Most of the comments are unfavourable, still 146 +votes and it's out of stock, smh!

  • +2

Was back in stock 10+ available, 1 cent cheaper, then out of stock again :-)

  • Does it come with the power supply unit as i dont see any mention in the description.

    • +2

mine came with brand new HP 65W USB-C power supply

  • +4

Received the laptop in the afternoon. The laptop is in excellent condition and no issues so far. I haven't checked the battery health but doesn't look bad enough to replace immediately. Great purchase.

    • Thanks for the feedback good to know. Unfortunately missed out on this deal, but I spent a few hundred dollars more and got myself a lenovo Yoga C940 instead of this unit

    • +2

can't say my unit condition qualifies as "excellent", I've seen used laptops in better condition. Scuffs on the top and bottom lids, and power button, are substantial.

Otherwise it's operating well. Battery level is 29% wear. Will need to check what's promised in the listing to see what to do next.

      • The condition is described as "very good" in the listing.

        • Vi19 used the word "excellent" that's what I am referring to

  • +2

I received mine today. Needs a little bit of a clean, but the body is in quite good condition otherwise. There's a bit of a bright area on the screen, noticeable only really from a high angle, I assume it might have been knocked or something, but it's pretty subtle at least.

It says the screen is 120hz, it has the sim slot and privacy screen mode. Mine came with a brand new legit charger.
I have yet to do a battery test so I'll update when I have.

    • +1

Battery is around 67% of original capacity, 390 charge cycles. Which for me is tolerable.

What's not good is one or both of the fans is vibrating/rattling I'm guessing due to bad bearings.

I've contacted the seller asking if they might consider a partial refund to cover the cost of replacement fans.

I saw another comment about the WiFi chip, but I'm getting over 400Mbps speed test on my network

  • +1

Received mine today also. Body/screen in excellent condition with no dents or scratches. 120hz screen with privacy mode and sim card slot also.

Battery health report is only showing 39K out of the 56K design capacity ~ so 70% of it's original health.

The eBay listing states the condition as "Very Good - Refurbished" which according to eBay is classified as minimum of 80% battery life. But I might just keep it considering it looks brand new by appearance.

    • +1

mine is about the same (71% capacity remaining), I contacted the seller for options. no harm trying, right
