50% points reduction! Not sure it is even worth buying these anymore.

    • +2

Just means you should purchase the $50 cards to get max value. These sales happen occasionally.

      • Yeah that's the only one worth buying. Still works out to 10% back in FB dollars.

A general reminder that any merchants running Square terminals will not accept the physical TCN Restaurant gift cards in this deal, because Square chooses to not accept eftpos payments from swipe-only eftpos cards. Square believes all eftpos cards nowadays come with a chip (which is wrong) and swipe payments are inherently not secure.

The workaround to use a physical TCN Restaurant gift card at a Square terminal is to exchange it for the digital Mastercard version. To do this:

    • Go to this webpage.
    • Scroll down to Pay safer and faster using your mobile wallet.
    • Click/tap on Go Digital and fill out the form.

If you opt to exchange your physical gift card for the digital gift card:

    • If you want to redeem it in-person, you must have the digital Mastercard gift card stored on a supported mobile wallet (i.e. Apple Pay, Google Wallet, Samsung Wallet).
    • When you go to redeem the digital Mastercard gift card at a permitted merchant, you will need to pay any surcharges the merchant applies to Mastercard payments.
    • I hate everyone that uses Square but I know they save $ than bank issued ones

The newer white Commibank EFTPOS machines look like square ones too but sigh of relief when you see Commonwealth Bank printed on he machine

    • did anyone succeed to swap digital? kept saying "check card number" while it's 100% correct as balance checked.

      • +3

I was having the same issue. Turns out you have to 'Register' the card first on the TCN website before doing the swap to digital (both forms are on the same page).

        • legend! thanks. that's instant once registered card then swapped to digital.

Finally a decent deal again (~10%) on TCN Restaurant/Restaurant Choice (I prefer the former too), been a long while, down to my last few dollars left haha.

Only issue for me with TCN is still not being able to remove cards in the app, even when they have zero balance.

On another note @WookieMonster I checked out the physical Restaurant Choice cards at my local Coles as I said I would, and seems they're still eftpos.

    • I'll check my local Coles tonight as well but yes from memory they only sell the EFTPOS version which I don't think you're able to convert into digital to add into mobile wallet.

    • +1

When I had a look at the physical Restaurant Choice gift cards at multiple Woolworths supermarkets over the last week or so, they were all the eftpos version.

I have not seen a physical Visa version stocked anywhere as of yet (including Coles and BIG W).

      • +1

I did email to inquire. Apparently, the digital visa versions is only available online. All physical versions are still eftpos. 🤷🏻‍♂️

      • Ya rest choice still EFTPOS can confirm

But TCN restaurant card can convert to digital right?

        • Apparently so according to Wookie and Tcn site. So it’s 5x50 tomorrow choice then.

          • @k1vnwng: issue is using them when there is a few cents left

many places now restrict card and card and only do card and cash which is the usual go

            • @Poor Ass: Yeah I wish Giftz or card.gift has their own 10% sale. At least we can purchase $500 @ 10% off.

Speaking of which, as I can’t post in classifieds, I’m more then happy to purchase any Tcn restaueant card/choice (digital) @ 10% off 😉

              • @k1vnwng: restaurant choice is better you can pay for theme park tickets and accommodation and more

                • @Poor Ass: Yeah but the problem is accessing discounted restaurant choice. I don’t think even any health funds carry it discounted.

At least with Good Food gift card, technically you can get 15% off with Lumo

TCN Restaurant at least you can get 7% off with Member Advantage and National Seniors Australia and 5% with AGL. With Choice, bupkis!

                  • @k1vnwng: Is true. Was good when cheddar had it for 5% cashback and now HCF rewards have it but very low discount like 2%

I usually go nuts buying when they are 10% off Amazon … And also buy their EFTPOS cards if I'm desperate at Coles worth but can't use on Square terminals

Good Food card is good too I bought a heap when it was 15% off on their website for mother's Day

                    • @Poor Ass: Well, if only we can get a constant supply of Amazon gc @ 10% or more 😉 then it’ll be great for choice. Best part is we can purchase up to 500 cards.

You can even purchase up to 1k value on giftz

                      • @k1vnwng: What's the 500 card limit? Per year?

Yup 1k is good .. used it for a week of accommodation

                        • @Poor Ass: Sorry poor choice of words. I meant we can at least purchase the $500 r.choice from Amazon. Rather then having to go buy 5x50 gc at coles tomorrow and perhaps having to use another flybuys for another 5x50. I mainly use it for restaurants and food and prefer to pay for the entire meal then having split payments. Could use it for casual dining. But these days, food ain’t cheap anymore. A meal will probably cost more then 50.

              • @k1vnwng: @ k1vnwng, curious, how do you get 10% off TCN digital cards?

                • +1

@New Chump: Oh I actually meant I want to buy TCN Restaurant/Restaurant Choice card @ 10% discount if anyone wants to sell them. Up to $1k.

As for myself, usually when there’s a sale with coles mcgc and coles worth have occasional weekly discounts. It used to be at least 10% and more but these days rarely so.

Also, on Restaurant Choice office site itself, they have discounts now and then.

Another way you can do so is buy purchasing discounted Amazon gc and use that to purchase the Choice card on Amazon.

  • Make sure you only buy a max of 5 per flybuys account as the catalogue says it can only be collected up to 5 times per Flybuys account.

    • And the $50 ones only as well

  • With restaurant gift card, any ideas on how to use up remaining balances with small amount? Like $3.62, $4.56 etc.

Since they don't work in fast food chain like HJ or MC, how do we use up the remaining balances?

    • Restaurant GC should work at fast food- I use it regularly at Macca's.

    • No issue in HJ just tell them you want split payment.

    • It's a huge pain to have to keep track of these small balances. Even worse when some terminals will charge a surcharge, typically 1.5% but not at all certain, so you have to calculate backwards AMOUNT / 1.015 to tell the cashier how much you want to pay - only to then realise the cashier priced the surcharge into the final bill so now you are left with that 1.5% (of $50 or whatever amount you intended to pay) - so now the 75c balance is too little to use for the next split, but too wasteful to throw away….. errgghh….

      • Don't disagree however the effort is required if you'd like to save some $$$.

Plus this is how most GC companies earn profit- through unused balances in gift cards as people find too cumbersome.

      • So in that case, I suppose get HJ when there's little balances left, since they have no surcharge? Are there any other ways to spend those low balances?

    • Thanks all, I always thought Fast Food will be excluded. HJ it is then when there's low balance. Any other ways?

      • my ref only if same as me not bearing if not 0 :)
        - bal > $1, HJ/MAC/KFC is good choice to pay by mixed card/cash
        - only some cents or whatever left? I'm shaming to go counter. so I added card to Paypal then pay mixed with card value + pp bal when ordering pizza.
eg. if 70c left & pizza is $9.7, transfer $9 to pp account first then ok to pay as 70c+$9.
        - TCN cards ok add to paypal, ultimate cards NO.

        richman? pls ignore.

        • Good tips, thanks. Does Paypal restrict the number of cards you can add to your account? I recall PP had a hard limit of how many Coles Prepaid MasterCard could be added to your account.

          • +1

@Craze: I have linked/unlinked at least 30+ cards no issue.

        • Hi test8888, can you please explain how this works a bit more? So let's say you have multiple different types of TCN cards with balances. TCN Her and TCN Teen, let's say. You add it to Paypal, so then you can only use it at one of the specified merchants that also accepts Paypal? So Cotton On, let's say. Can you use the balances from both cards in one purchase transaction at Cotton On? What about at a merchant that accepts only TCN Her but not Teen - let's say Adore Beauty. Does Paypal then automatically doesn't show up your balance in the TCN Her when checking out Adore Beauty? Or does it simply error-out if you try to use the Her balance?

          • @Jinster: that Paypal method is for TCN food card. but you can test: only one card is allowed when paying by PP so the method is combo with PP balance + left value on card.

            • @test8888: Oh I see. I guess it never occurred to me you can Paypal for food. Can I ask which food outlet/restaurant accepts Paypal please? Are we talking about Uber Eats or specific restaurants that accepts online payments?

              • +1

@Jinster: I only use for pizzahut and domino as they don't have GC from I know.
there are lots of discount GC for other foods such as uber east etc. so not worth to pay directly.

    • I use Sushi Hub, never an issue splitting payment. And also most licences premise seem happy to help.

      • +1

Sushi hub and grilld are my regulars to use leftover balances

Never had any issues with split payments

  • How to buy more than 5 cards? Without a second FB account
