Why does the stock management on Centre Com's website suck so badly?

I was buying some stuff in-store the other day and asked them about why they keep cancelling orders. Found out their back-end is complete garbage.
It's possible for there to be, lets say 5 in stock, and it would allow infinite amount of online orders to go through because it doesn't update in real-time, or fast enough.
It's actually best if you go in-store to buy it because, and I suspect, it's possible for you to buy and receive the card in-person ahead of an online order that was placed first

What's wrong with Centre Com?

Bottom of every page: "Centre Com reserves the right to not make a loss"
Translation 1: "If we fark up the price, we will not honour the price, hold your money and then stuff around before refunding it"
Translation 2: "Our stock availability is unreliable. When we don't have it in stock for the special price, we will gladly sell it to you one day later for a higher price"

I don't know how the price of this card has held around $500 for so long…

    • +9

Gamers Nexus did a video saying it was the best card value for money for 1440p.
It might drop another $50 but until something comes out at that price point which equates to better performance per dollar it will be king until then.

      • +3

This is completely intentional. New gen pricing makes old gen look good so people buy the old gen. Once old gen stock has been sold they lower price of new gen so it then becomes appealing.

Doing it any other way means they get stuck with a ton of old inventory they have to discount heavily to offload.

      Card is already $400

The balance is AMD forcing you to take the copy of Starfield Premium because they would rather take a hit with Bethesda than fund price drops with every AIB

RX 7700 to be announced next month and released September at AU $599 before the Starfield promo ends

Once the Starfield promo ends, 6700 XT and 6750 XT stock will be clear and AMD will start dropping 7700 prices

  • My motherboard is pcie 3, would there be much bottlenecking if I get this gpu?

    • +8

Without knowing anything else about your system and intended use - there is a very high chance 6700xt will run perfectly fine with PCI3

      • Oh sorry haha, I've got a ryzen 5 5600, 16 GB of ram. I plan to use it to game on the 144 hz 1080p monitor.

        • Perfect fit

        • +1

Arguably a bit of overkill for 1080p. What GPU do you have now?

          • +2

@Haplo: I've got an rtx 2060, my monitor doesn't have g sync, so I wanted to a get an AMD GPU

  • How does 6750XT compare? $50 more and not marked down, but supposedly better though (slightly)? Seems it's just clocked up a bit, and chews more power along with it?

    • I think 6750 is just an overclock, and maybe some extra memory bandwidth.

You could buy this and OC it yourself for similar gains…. or just pay $50 and get an extra 0-10% benefit out of the box

    • +1

Faster GDDR6 memory speeds, identical core, 5% difference at 1080/1440/4K

Good buy if the price is the same, otherwise an unnoticeable difference

Better to spend the $50 on a better quality SSD or PSU

    • +2

Achieved around 75fps in Forza Horizon 5 at max settings on 1440p monitor 4k reso

  • seeing as I bought a used 3070 at this price its pretty good for brand new.

I still haven't received my refunded money when Centre Com dis-honoured this deal:

Bro that was four days ago relax

      • +1

It doesn't take 4 days to refund it. That's the point.

He wrote in the letter that they had already processed the refund.

It's either too good a deal and they'll claim it's a pricing error.

Or it's not good enough a deal against Amazon, and you get to avoid this headache going elsewhere.

        • +1

If you paid with a credit card don't expect the surcharge to be refunded.

          • +1

@beastontheroad: They wrote that would be refunded too.

            But so far nothing.

            • @bjt: it really depends on how many people they need to process. Every refund should be done manually (there really shouldn't be batch press a button for refunds) and if there's a big queue of refunds to go through it'll take a few days. I also imagine for security reasons not every Customer service staff has access to the actual refund button.

              • +1

@wackedupwacko: Why would Centre Com have a big queue of refunds to go through?

Why would Centre Com have a big queue of refunds to go through?

You need to chill down a bit also your neg vote is unfair and it should be revoked.
It sounds to me that you're the typical person who is best suited to buy stuff directly in the retail stores where they charge >200% markup.
                  Not a good ozbargainer…..

                  • +1

                    @billadm: Firstly, no true scotsman.

Secondly, absolute fact that negs should be given for recent history of pricing errors.

                    This protects Ozbargainers.

@bjt: Woowww you sound like a pumped up military though guy.
You started your negative rant by complaining after 4 days not getting the refund and slandering the merchant.
You should shop in retail shops where they treat you with a fake smile and back stab you.
You got any more neg votes? LOL

                      • @billadm: What I wrote isn't injurous falsehood.

It's not a falsehood and wasn't written in malice.

I am just stating reasons why I'm not buying, I can't run my life where it's heads or tails as to if I will get a delayed refund because it wasn't a genuine transaction.

And the information can protect other Ozbargainers from cashflow problems too.

I think you are being paranoid.

            • @bjt: Lucky you. I got the special in store Auburn treatment. They refused to refund the surcharge on a $1500 deposit on a notebook. I cancelled the order a few hours later. So they sought their revenge by keeping the surcharge.

They also informed me that if I pay with Afterpay it will also attract a surcharge because it is essentially a credit card in their eyes.

The only store I’ve found that puts a surcharge on Afterpay.

They refused to refund the surcharge on a $1500 deposit on a notebook.

The surcharge fees go to your loved Afterpay so you should complain to them.

So they sought their revenge by keeping the surcharge.

The surcharge is attached to the banking transaction and it doesn't revert back so it got nothing to do with Centrecom.
You're lucky that they refunded you because they don't like to do business with people like you, it's just too much headache.
What you did is a "change of mind" so usually shops charge a 10% restock fee.

The only store I’ve found that puts a surcharge on Afterpay.

And in the past shopping and paying with a credit card was free of charges, debit cards where exempted from charges but now many shops charge a transaction fee.

Check out all the fake Centre con reviews on Google.

Make it sure you also check the ones on Amazon, just to mention one.

              • @beastontheroad: Why was a deposit required for a laptop?

      • They actually wrote that I would receive the money back "in a few (to)days", if you go have a look.

I forwarded the information along but it's proven inaccurate.

That's why I made the above comment.
