  • How much better is this than a 3060 Ti?

    • +10

difference is minimal in raster. when you have DLSS compatible game, 3060 Ti will be ahead. if you turn on RTX (well you shouldn't with either card), 3060 Ti will be ahead again. AMD has FSR / ASR upscaling, but they are inferior.

6700XT and in general that gen of AMD overclocks / undervolts well, and has decent VRAM volumes for those who wish to play latest console ports on their PC

otherwise NVIDIA has upper hand with more stable drivers, CUDA cores and encoders for content creators, and DLSS tech which is awesome. but 8GB VRAM

I play TLOU p1 fine on 3070 8GB VRAM in 4k with DLSS Quality, it fits into 8GB VRAM, but it's a tight fit. otherwise there are plenty of games that play fine without need for >8GB VRAM in 4k (Control, Ghostrunner, Death Stranding etc.)

      • Awesome thanks for confirming. Will keep an eye out for future deals :)

      • -2

I had stuttering/lag problems with a 6700XT couple of weeks ago.
Tried all of the recommended fixes, but lost patience and changed back to my old Nvidia card and the problems went away. Will put up with lower frame rates etc.
There were probably other things I could try, but I thought I shouldn't have to faff about so much in 2023.
At least I sold the 6700XT for what I paid.

        • +2

I tried 6700 and 6800 (Sapphire and PowerColor) before settling for Asus 3070 (KO) this year. on both AMD cards I had to put up with horrible coil whine (not sure what I endured even qualifies for "whine", it was more like drilling noise, but electronic), while I struggled to get smooth output to a 144hz monitor - Freesync enabled and all.

with 3070 no problems, just set up G-Sync the way it should be and instant enjoyable gaming experience.

          just sayin.

          • @shabaka: What did you end up doing with your 6700 and 6800 cards? Sell on used market at a loss?

            • @povogamer: I got both at good prices, so one without a loss, and another with a small loss, yes. but I got to keep the game that came with it (The Last Of Us)

          • +1

@shabaka: coil whine is a luck of the draw issue.. my Asus TUF 6800 has zero coil wine… my friends RTX2080 is a bubble bee :)

        • +2

Haven't had to faff around with my 6800XT …did you ddu and reinstall drivers on a clean box ? Only thing I can think of being the issue.

I have a 3060 as well and I've had games crash to desktop fair few times and had to ddu and reinstall drivers. Didn't have any issues on my old 5600XT or the xmining 6800XT I have.

          I guess ymmv …

          • @scud70: Yeah thanks did the DDU process, amongst other faffing about.
            Tried different monitors, cables etc
A RTX3070 from another PC works without any malarky. Just plug it in and load drivers.

        • +2

6700 XT flogs the 3060. There's a massive performance gap between the 3060 and 3060 Ti (the 6700 XT competitor).

        • +2

Keep in mind the 8gb version of 3060 is not just a difference of 4gb vram it's also gimped performance wise vs 3060 12gb.

I wouldn't touch it to be honest.

          • @scud70:

8gb version of 3060 is not just a difference of 4gb vram

            So confusing, like the 1060 3GB and 1060 6GB.

        • +1

3060 -> 3060 Ti is a huge jump (3060 Ti is a cut down version of 3070 die). not worth looking at 3060 at this point unless 12gb VRAM is what you need for some AI project

          • @shabaka: A lot of people don't realise this and the 3060 has become a very popular card despite the AMD competitor being priced similarly and being a tier above.

        • 8gb is ~15% slower than 12gb, it's more like a 3050ti. One of the worst cards from recent times.

      • I've been using my 6700 XT for a couple of years and haven't had a single problem with the drivers.

  • +1

I wonder why there are not many Nvidia GPU deals lately?

    • +6

Because people are buying them at full price anyway

    • +4

NV has successfully gained Apple style pricing power

They are also restricting supply and allocating the majority of their TSMC wafers to AI cards

Already mentioned that 40 series will run till the end of 2024 so besides some new 4080 Ti and 4090 Titan cash grabs, NV do not need to do much

NV is so far ahead of AMD and Intel with Ada they could un-gimp it now and blow away RDNA 4 let alone Battlemage

      • +2

This. Both AMD and NVIDIA have been under-shipping consumer cards for most of this gen.

    • Because NvidAI doesn't focus too much on the gaming market anymore, something else has taken NvidAI by a storm. Same with AIMD and AIntel.

  • edit: nevermind

    • +7

      my thoughts exactly

  • +2

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/175704134432

with the same code, 3070 Asus Dual is $538

doesn't come with a free game though.

  • +4

6800 XT at this price would be grouse

    • Naa, 6900xt at this price!

      • +2

wrek this mate give us 7900 XTX and 5 free games at this price

        • Oh, even better! How'd I get that wrong.

    • Not new but there were (maybe still are?) ex-mining 6800xts at 550 around ebay somewhere w/1 year warranty. No free starfield with it obviously.

  • Second hand 6700XT on ebay are still close to this price.
    Sometimes higher.
    Crazy times for GPUs still.

  • +2

    If you need a CPU - 7700x $472 - 6 left

  • It is worth upgrading to 6700 XT from Vega 64?

    • +2

Vega 64 is ~ GTX 1080 levels of performance, whereas this edges out RTX 2080 Ti / 3070 in raster. If you're not looking for RT performance this is great value.

I doubt midrange RDNA 3 will provide better value.

      • TThanks, if I want RT performance, wait for sale on 3070Ti?

        • +3

The lowest I've seen 3070 Ti drop to is ~$650. But that 8GB frame buffer is starting to become a big problem so I can't recommend it.

          • @TeddyBear: Yeah 8GB isn't good.
6700 XT will be good for Alyx VR ?

            • +1

@congo: Yes, it will be more than enough for Half Life: Alyx.

        • +2

3080s have been sold used for around 5-600

    • +3

It remains to be seen if these will be enough for Unreal engine 5 games in 2024 and beyond. I'd prefer a 6800 XT / RX 7900 XT, but that's a whole different price class.

      • +4

I got a used 6800XT from metrocom for about $100 more than this, if used is an option I think 6800/6800XT i think is the best spot. New I'd go with 6700/XT or 6750XT at the moment…

NVIDIA have really priced things so you just go for the super expensive cards with the old mid range being vram limited and new mid range being basically entry level cards with a tier up naming … Never thought it'd be a sh*t show after covid and crypto boom…but I was wrong loll

        • yup my thoughts exactly. NVIDIA really did a number in 40x0 generation there. I can afford a 4080 but I am not getting one, they need to sort themselves out. staying on 3070 for now, no reasons to upgrade so far (and nothing to upgrade to)

  • hows this for 1440p gaming

    • +2

That's the sweet spot for this card.

  • Bought one while I wait for my Asrock 6900XT to be repaired,
not much fun playing Assetto Corsa @ 7fps on 7600x integrated graphics.

  • Receiving quite a few messages about the Starfield game codes for this and other AMD Cards.

Yes, we are currently supplying the redemption code for these sales. We will supply till we run out of codes and at present have a reasonable number that will likely last through the current eBay promotion. Will update here if we run low/out.

The redemption code (NOT the game code) will be printed on the invoice supplied with the order. Use that code to redeem for the game code at www.amdrewards.com

  • +1

I have this card for my kids computer and it runs games at 120fps @ 1440p perfectly. I use a 6800XT with a 7800x3d and it smashes over 144 frames in games. The 6700XT is a beast at that price.

  • 6700 XT is actually an awesome card it's pretty much a PS5 in a PC lots of games are developed for this exact card because of that reason and it just happens to be the reason most games play incredibly well on it because they are optimising the games for this particular card anyone who has this card is probably 2x smarter than everyone else

    • +5

People who buy this card are also incredibly good looking and have amazing personalities.

  • Make sure the BIOS is up to date - https://old.reddit.com/r/graphicscard/comments/mbjfu9/i_boug…
Also other reddit posts mention this card runs hot

  • Is this now oos?
