Give a Can, Grab a DVD - Free DVD Rental When You Donate a Can of Food

160

Cans4Films is back for yet another year!

Throughout September, Network Video stores across Australia will be hosting the Cans4Films Festival. These stores will act as collection points for all types of canned food that will then be passed onto local hunger relief charities.

The mechanics of Cans4Films are simple: donate one can of food at your local Network store and get a free weekly rental. Feeling generous? Donate two cans of food and receive three free weekly rentals.

Not only will you gain the satisfaction of helping struggling Australians, you’ll also get to kick back on your couch and enjoy a good movie.

Conditions: Cans 300g or greater are preferred. Expiry date on cans of food must be December 2012 or later. Donated cans must be nutritious Winter food e.g: soup or canned meals. Normal membership conditions apply. Extended rental fees still apply if hire is not returned by the required date. At participating stores only.

  • What's a 'DVD'?

/I keed, I keed. Worthwhile cause.

  • its a good concept except where a Network Video store?

Tough economy, now the video stores are going hungry! ;)

Look JV. Here's a demonstration of how to make a positive, useful, informative comment that people might appreciate on a public forum/community.

"Thanks OP, I wouldn't have know about this bargain if it wasn't listed. Nice to be giving and receiving! Cheers!"

And to answer your question (not sure why I'm doing this - I thought it fairly self explanatory):

      • Perhaps if "just donating cash" was working for charities then maybe this kind of fund wouldn't exist
      • Perhaps Network Video would like to improve their brand recognition by supporting charities
      • Perhaps the incentive of receiving something back will encourage additional people to 'donate'

And finally, something that may have missed being taught a long the line somewhere. A fantastic age old adage I'm sure a few of us around here might appreciate you practising more frequently: "If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all!"

          Lmao! =)

  • Are there any struggling Australian dogs? I have some dog food. ;)

I'm kid, I kid, I haven't stepped into a video store for years. No dog either.

    Also, isn't winter over?

    • +1

Maybe it's a collection for the Greek people, they are going into winter ! A deep winter.

      • -3

It's not Winter yet in Greece… Not for another 3 months.

    • I know many of the stores will also accept dog food, cat food, rice, pasta etc. It is about giving people an incentive to help struggling families and many of these families also have pets.

Do they pass on ALL the cans to charity or do they keep some for Admin?

    • I think that maybe depends on how much "good" (desireable?) stuff they get given.

  • Q: Any higher definition or (?lower def, online)on demand stuff available from this donation?>

I'd tend to agree this has potential for a pretty clean concept — ala Can(ne)s Food Festival.

    Three (3) rentals@840g of 'beans(total$1.50) =50cents/disc, going by $mart buy pricing.
