Don't do it. You can sign on to Superloop 100/20 for like $65 over 6 months or something.

I guess if you want to be like OP and churn erry day then go for it.

    • +14

I guess if you want to be like OP and churn erry day then go for it.

It is simply not worth the pain and hassle of chasing RSPs to make sure they connect you on the right date. Tangerine and More are the worst offenders.

      • Yeah I'd never do it lol. Also have to configure your modem each time, assuming you've got something compatible with the required protocol

      • +2

I agree tangerine is just so crap about ensuring the NBN is connect soon. They took longer than like 8-10 days for me. Then I ditched them as they were I think never going to connect property

      • Scored around 10 months of free internet in the last 2 years, never had any issues churning including tangerine, dodo etc. yes sometimes you'd need to tune in your router but I'd prefer putting 5 mins than let go free months.. oh yes I and my partner both are full timers

        However, as always.. ymmv

      • +2

Tangerine were absolutely dreadful. They actually connected my neighbour - in the process, disconnecting them from their existing provider - and charging me for the service. Told me they'd refund it, had to chase them up AGAIN to get the refund. Customer care is based overseas (which in and of itself isn't an issue) - but clearly had very little training and had no idea how to address any of the issues. Avoid at all costs.

$65 over 6 months? How does one get this deal?

      • +1

sign up to them and say you want the discount. it's 65 per month i don't know if you're trying to be funny

        • Oh your original post said $65 over 6 months .. thought it was some super deal lol

    • I received an email from them last month and they are increasing 15$ extra on from August.

      • Who? Superloop increasing price?

        • Iinet

          • @rehan770: leave iinet, they are bad for like the last five years

            • @Budju: Na, did not hv an issue past 2 years & I get free home phone as for work purpose but if they increase the monthly then I will

              • @rehan770: I was with Internode for 20 years, which is owned by the same parent company as iinet and now exactly the same. I changed only 12 months ago. I'm telling you, iinet/node are horrible now compared to before.

Here is the ultimate resource for choosing an ISP: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum/92

The four most popular seem to be Superloop, Exetel, Leaptel and Aussie Broadband.

  • +1

Mate let you try any of their plans for $1 (for the first month) with the code TRYMATE https://www.letsbemates.com.au/
    Another option for anyone.

    • Thanks mate, will join mate for a month after iinet

      • +4

Just be aware that MATE no longer uses Vocus (i.e. Dodo, More, Tangerine etc) and instead puts customers on the Wireline network.
Wireline appears to suffer from congestion and has poor performance.

        • +2

Wireline appears to suffer from congestion and has poor performance.

Thanks for the heads up, mate.

        • +5

Someone created a network worse than Vocus? Wow.

          • @Agret: Vocus isn’t even that bad, they might not always have the absolute best performance but if you do some tests with their looking glass you will see they are competitive.

          • @Agret: An observation only; I've been with the Extinct Bird for 8 years or so. First ADSL and NBN FTN 100/20 for more than five of those. Speeds are consistently right up there and reliable.

On the downside tech support, which I have used twice over the years, is an absolute PITA.

            But, as mentioned, YMMV.

PS: The main reason I haven't changed is fear of changing. I just know it never goes smooth.

            • @ArskinF: I too was afraid of change until i trialled abb on uni-d2. I figured i had nothing to lose since i still had the main connection on uni-d1. I was playing with house money.

The rest, like the bird, is history. I have since become a regular churner.

        • +1

Never had an issue with them.

        • +1

Just changed, so far working better than Origin which is supplied by Aussie.

        • They're pretty much admitting that their network is crap by not selling any plans higher than 250/25. That's a red flag in itself.

          • @bonezAU: They do offer 1000/50 plans on iPrimus, more and Tangerine.
            Only Dodo doesn’t offer it.

            • @AusNugz: I was referring to Mate 🙂
Dodo and Tangerine were my last 2 RSP"s on FTTN 100/20 and both were fine. I'm on FTTP Leaptel now 500/50 and it's noiiiice.

              • +1

@bonezAU: Sorry my apologises - thought you were referring to Vocus.

      • -1

Don’t do it….I’m using MATE and boi they suck…the only reason I haven’t get out of it coz I cbf resetting my modem and reenter a million devices for “new” wifi password due to reset…

        • +8

Why would you change the wifi password?

        • +4

If you must change routers, use a custom SSID and password so when you change you can just change the settings on the new router in 2 minutes and all the devices in the house can't tell the difference and connect automatically.

        • +1

I used mate for 5+ years at my last place, my sister and her partner have used mate for 2+ years and I'm using mate at my current place.
Only time I ever had issues with my connection was due to NBN installing stuff wrong at the curb.

If we didn't use ISP's just because someone said they had issues with them, we wouldn't have a single ISP to use.
Plus, it's $1 and no lock in contracts, you can just swap ISP if you genuinely have issues.

Also, you don't need to reset your modem and "reenter" the "new wifi password" when you change isps…

    • +2

      with the code TRYMATE

missed opportunity to make the code CHECKMATE

      • That’s the code you use when you want to leave them after finding out how shit the service is.

  • +2

I have used iinet for 30+ years in its various incarnations. I stay for the service which is unbelievable when dealing with me: ok now go to the computer. Ok, what's a computer look like?

    • +3

I was internode for like 20 years and I just rage quit about a year ago, they are absolutely terrible now.

I should have left a long time ago.

I remember asking their tech support a question about bridging mode on their specific router and the girl didn't know what it was.

    • Also been with iinet for about 10 years, started from the Netspace times.
Service is great even though it looks like it's now outsourced. Different style of tech support.
Rarely had any downtimes. Probably like 10 minutes of downtime over the years, and I've moved a fair few times in Sydney.

Though since the TPG takeover, I have experienced decline in the net (higher latency, slower at times, etc). I think iinet and TPG oversold at least in my area in my area in Sydney that led to the congestion. They're now doing hard sales for people to go 5G instead of NBN.
Prior to TPG takeover, the latency was superb and never had speed problems.

I'm now thinking of changing to another ISP as well.

  • +7

Completely shithouse support from iinet. Avoid.

    • +2

You aint wrong, occasionally you will get someone who knows their stuff, but likely you have lost your sanity by this time.

      • +3

My parents moved to an apartment building which is exclusively serviced by iinet, you would think they would have their shit together. After 1.5 weeks they still couldn't get their apartment connected, technicians wouldn't show up when they said they would, even I spoke to tech support and one girl asked me to plug a hairdryer into the telephone socket to make sure it was working… Huge wtf moment. Ended up giving up and cancelling after getting the runaround for so long, expected much better for the prices they are charging. Will go with a 5G provider instead.

        • LOL. Make a telephone call back to the 80's with your hairdryer and they will ask for it back!
Sounds like a skit from Hot Tub Time Machine.

      • I'm convinced the lower level tech "support" people read from a script.

    • They used to be OK 10 years, ago, but lately they are completely bad.

  • +1

If you are a CBA customer and have a CBA Visa or Mastercard, you may want to look at More. They have NBN50 for $53.90p/m for the first 12 months with no lock in contract. Once your 12 months are up, you can then switch to Tangerine who are owned by the same company as More and offer the same NBN50 for $54.90p/m for the first 6 months. Basically, that means you get NBN50 for $54-$55p/m for 18 months.

For Tangerine you do not need to be a CBA customer to get that price.

    • Thanks for your comment - just activated More ($53.9 for 50/17 plan) - that is a saving of $25/m whilst moving from aussiebroadband.

      • +1

I think exetel also have a deal for $52.90 a month but it's only for 6 months. But they do have 5 speedboosts per month which I actually thought were pretty cool. A cool gimmick that works well.

    • Are they doing alright? I saw tons of complaints about More, mostly after service.
But in general, is it worth the money? Is the speed slower than promised?
I'm CBA customer and considering if I should sign up with them but bit scared with all negative comments.

      • I am not on their NBN plan (yet) but I know 2 people who are on their NBN50 plan via their CBA employee discount and both of them are happy with the NBN service and the speed is like any other NBN50 plan.

Technical support is a bit of an issue (and for me on their 5G home wireless) but if you don't need technical support once you've cut over, then to me it's a non-issue. If you're the kind of person who needs technical support regularly, then it may be a factor for you.

  • Can you opt out of CGNAT with this mob? I don't mind churning every few months for a few month. Save like $120 per year at the cost of 20-30min of my time to disconnect and connect services

    • I don’t believe they use CGNAT. You should be given a unique dynamic IPV4 address.

  • +2

A lot of people got charged the last time this deal was available, not sure worth the hassle trying to get your money back and dealing with their support…

  • i signed in may for a free month. I rang and cancelled before the EOM and got a confirmation email that I was cancelled.

Two months later they are still billing me and they can't see to understand that they are supposed to stop since I left..

More than a dozen phone calls to ask them to stop.

    • +1

      Revolut is your answer.

      • Yeah, prepaid cards are worth the effort in cases like these. I keep a stack with $1 - $5 left on them for these sorts of scenerios

      • They don't accept Revolut or PP cards.

    • I did similar but all worked out ok fortunately, I'd say this to those considering taking a month for free they charge for the following month 2 weeks before the 2nd month so it can be a bit of a pain, you will almost certainly need to get a refund. Mine was all done hassle free but there are others who had issues like @rooster

  • Just churned with from AGL to Tangerine and was very smooth process. Not knowing I could transfer, I called AGL first to cancel and they said would take 1-2 days. I immediately signed up for Tangerine online and they said it would take 1-2 days to activate. The service was active within less than 24 hours, and then AGL cancelled the next day.

Failing that, if anything went wrong, I would always have hotspot ready.

NBN is amazing for churning, I highly recommend.

    • I tried AGL for mobile and their customer service was the most painful thing I've ever experienced. I tried updating my credit card details online, but it directs you to their chat. Despite selecting mobile, the chat directs you to their gas division who can't help. After finally getting through to the Telco people, they say it can't be done over chat and to call them. Every interaction had this level of stupidity and messing me around.

      • Yep, had the same experience with their systems, so every time I needed support, I always needed to call. Once I got through, things worked out well so I think rule of thumb is to set low expectations for anything other than calling.

  • +3

Worth checking the T&C's in case they have a clause that requires you to give them 30 days notice before terminating the service.

    • didn't previously but they charge the next month well in advance

  • When could they make it easy as switching between mobile phone service providers

    • I tried an eSIM for the first time a month ago and it was done in 15 minutes tops.

  • Don't see any option for future connection…

  • Any idea when the offer expires

    • +3

If you click the link it tells you. 25/07.

      • The OP also has the expiry.

  • Can get Superloop for six months for $59 p/m with 5 speed boosts p/m plus free eero modem.

    • plus free eero modem

Free if you stay connected for 18 months.

  • +1

Doesn't look like you can select 'not to connect before date'. Anybody?

    • Yeah good point. No option I could see to select a connection date. I'm done here 😄

    • nope but you could try calling them

      • I feel like I lose control of the situation when I call. Everything becomes a case of "he said she said" and there is less of a paper trail of what was actually ordered.

  • +1

Dont sign up! An absolute nightmare to cancel and the billing is deliberately made very confusing. I signed up last time this deal was posted and won't recommend.

    • 100% this. I would only advise signing up if you intend to stay with them. There's no such thing as a free lunch (1 month).

      • But I’ve just had around nine months of free lunches ;)

  • +1

$80 for 50/20 is awful. I'm paying $100/month for 100/40 with Aussie Broadband, who are known not to be the cheapest.

    • No one is going to stick around and pay $80 tho.

      • Switching providers can be painful, and I'm sure they'll make it even more painful (and others have confirmed that's the case.). Even if there are no hidden terms and conditions etc. In general trying to outsmart a business that is behaving unethically is generally not advisable. They are dealing with this time and again. You are dealing with it once. They have experience on their side.

        • +1

I'm a regular churner. Had zero issues the last couple of years. Think I'm on our 7th provider.

          • @HappyPants: You've been lucky. I have only changed once and it was a freakin' nightmare. Telstra -> Aussie Broadband if you're curious.

          • +3

@HappyPants: This. Can’t believe people think it’s difficult.

            • @Fancydancer: If you don't mind talking to people who have trouble understanding you, being ghosted, spending hours trying to get hold of someone, being hung up, finding out about terms and conditions that lock you in, or fighting a lock in you didn't agree on and worrying about losing your phone number changing providers is trivial. Oh and if you work at home at all and things go wrong, it's possible you'll lose your Internet for a few days so hope you enjoy changing your plans. Mobile linked to your account? Even more fun and games - better hope you don't lose your number or you have alternate 2-factor. It's all very easy…until it isn't. Once you've had a bad time just one time, you won't be making or upvoting comments like the one I'm replying to.

  • Please take a note of following,

    1. Before signing up called their sales team as I wanted to get connected at a later date, their sales rep told me I can sign up now and my billing will kick in once I plug in the modem or start using the service.

    2. I went ahead and signed up. Received quite a few email notifications and the latest one said my billing will start on 26 July 2023.

    3. Called their customer care and I was told that the information provided re billing commencement date was wrong. Funny thing is although I received order activation email, at their end they have no record of it whatsoever. The service was still pending to be activated at their end (!)

    4. Anyway, they manually had to put down the notes agreeing to start billing only after I start using.

    Conclusion- what's for dinner?

    • Sounds like a headache already. Keep a record of everything. You are probably going to need in the near future.

    • you can fall between the cracks with nbn / ISP systems which sometimes mean you get free internet until either NBN or ISP work it out, happened to me previously, was very happy

  • When I called to cancel last month they offered me another month free and I took it.

  • I signed up for Leaptel they had a deal for $59.95 for 12 months for this speed

  • Why saving $60 and not $80??

    • Because it can be assumed that you're currently with a more reasonably priced ISP

  • +1

    $80/m for 50/20?!

  • Last time i used them they used VDSL vlan tagging over hfc. Had to use an extra modem behind the mesh router. Biggest headache

  • +2

used revolt, didn't work with mum the next month, so used virgin account no money in it. Got so many direct accounts with no money in it, for these deals, thanks to ozb.
cancel last month and got another month free. I seriously don't need nbn, just easier for the tv. As free Boost mobile sims is more then enough internet, but got to change the sim every 60gb. so getting it free as long as one offers. Personally don't like mate, as they've got something setting that doesn't work with Telstra smart modem. Origin with rewards points are good too. Otherwise free internet for about 15months and going.

  • signed up. They have sent me a 2 month bill, I have to pay $79.99 1st month free, 2nd month $79.99 due in 2 weeks which is 10 days before the first month expires.

    • I am in the same boat. Feel like get scammed. Did you take any action? Or just pay?

      • Hi mate, I am in the same situation. How did you go? Cheers
