Tokyo Return: Japan Airlines from MEL $907, PER $944, BNE $1014, SYD $1024 / Air Asia from $598 @ Beat That Flight

231

Two deals here. First up, Japan Airlines Direct from Sydney (and sometimes Melbourne) to Tokyo, and from Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth via Singapore. Note for the latter two, the first leg will be a Qantas flight, although the whole ticket is booked through JAL.

Secondly, if you want a cheap airline, Air Asia is flying from Sydney ($598 Return), Melbourne $747, Gold Coast $985 and Perth $668 Return. I'll put those at the bottom.

Accommodation recommendations in Tokyo under AU$120 a night.

  • Page unusable.
The add at the top of the page takes up half of the screen. The add at the bottom takes up a quarter. I am only left with about 5cm to scroll through the site.

  • What's Japan Airlines like compared to the majors? Qantas, Singapore, Malaysia etc?

  • Am I going blind? The Perth leg says it's JAL on the website but really is MAS?

    • Might be a code share. As in description, the ones I found had Qantas planes from Perth, on a JAL ticket.

Quoted prices for JAL direct MEL - TOKYO and direct return in November don't exist.

    • Eh? I just clicked through 5-24th Nov from Melbourne, scrolled down to the JAL flights, pressed the mydeal link and it opens up to $1010 return flight booking. Is that not what you get?

      • +1

Returns are all via. SIN with the SIN-MEL leg being a QF-operated codeshare. A lot of the outbounds are also via. SIN, although some are nonstop.

        • Well yeah, that's what the post says though? Maybe not the most optimal route of course

  • Once again, nothing in school holidays. Sad face. Back to trying to find points redemption flights

Unfortunately supply and demand says there rarely (never?) will be sales at that time.

      • Looking for flights in Jan but super exepsnive. Are you saying it rarely if ever goes on sale?

  • Not really a deal, all the flights from Sydney are one stop and a lot aren't even on JAL metal.
I'd rather wait for a JAL/ANA sale especially if travelling off peak

  • OP any direct flights from Melbourne AND back with JAL?

Seeing decent fares with Cathay Pacific. Are their flights as good as JAL/ANA?

Look on their site direct. I booked 2 weeks ago for May 13 - 29th direct from Sydney and tickets were $1,059 PP return.

Their prices have been going up and down. I first looked 1.5 months ago, same price as I had just paid. A few weeks later that had increased to $1,450ish. They went back down so I quickly pulled the trigger.

Anyone else going to Japan concerned that they will be releasing Fukushima nuclear waste water? Looks like we may need to avoid the sashimi.

    • It's not a great situation, that's for sure.

However on the other hand, it's over like 40 years and cleaned up as much as they can - considering numerous countries detonated nukes in the pacific islands, Barents sea and other places that have surely that contaminated the oceans… (sadly there have been 2,121 tests conducted worldwide in less than 80 years and as of 1993, worldwide, 520 atmospheric nuclear explosions (including 8 underwater) have been conducted with a total yield of 545 megaton - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_nuclear_weapons_tests without even considering nuclear power and meltdowns and dumping of waste which hasn't always been so well controlled….) it's probably a 'drop in the (unfortunately filthy) ocean' so to speak…

Considering the old quote that if all of earth's history was condensed into just 1 year, the dinosaurs would appear in mid December and disappear by Boxing Day, modern humans entire history would be on the evening of the 31st December, and everyone alive today in the last microsecond, we've sure irreversibly f…d up the world in a big way in just that last microsecond compared to all creatures in all of time prior!

  • Their flights are outdated. E.g. JAL JL774 from Melbourne to Narita - they used to have a direct 12:10 am arriving around 9am. This flight has been cancelled by JAL from July 2023 onwards. Their website still shows this flight…

    • Yep. We booked JL774 back in May and then got an email last week about the schedule change to now depart at 7.20am and arrive at 3.15pm. Half a day lost and they weren't able to move us to any other day (we wanted to leave a day earlier to not lose more time) :(
