  • Truffle chips are no longer from this brand Red Rock Deli?

    • +1

Almost all truffle oil sold is synthetic fyi.

      • synthetic is?

        • +2

Meaning any truffle flavour is artificial (synthetic/synthesised) and not derived from a real truffle. It may contain real truffle but the ones used are generally flavourless and not worth spending money on (unless you're a company who wants to be able to claim you use real truffles in your marketing to increase sales)

      Antioxidants lol
Both oils are as bad as each other.

PS. Grain waves $2.40 /170g at Woolies

      • I remember going to an ophthalmologist and he said to avoid any chips/fried foods that have canola oil in ingredients as its bad for your eyes — though i am on a shit tonne of steroids so uncertain if the same advice would be given to a "healthy" person.

        • +3

Oh true.. no oils are healthy, high in saturated fat and cholesterol, clogs your arteries. People argue Olive oil is healthy, better off eating olives. Used sparingly maybe ok.

Agree, all these snacks are junk food anyway and should be avoided when there are healthier things to eat. Hard to control portions too ones you crack the bag.

          • -1

            @G-rig: Cholesterol isn't always a bad thing

            • @SpainKing: Bad cholesterol is.

              • +2

@G-rig: Agreed, but fats (saturated or not) raise both your good and bad cholesterols. Some oils will help much more than others at rasing your good cholesterol (HDL) levels so it seems disingenuous or outdated to state "no oils are healthy"

                • +2

@SpainKing: Yes I know what you are saying.
There are always healthier alternatives and sources for these, not fried crisps..
Pretty easy to over consume as well.

Not everyone accepts that dietary cholesterol directly affects blood cholesterol, but good to try and keep it lower than higher.

          • +1

@G-rig: Fish oil is also good especially salmon oil, otherwise they wouldn't sell fish oil tablets

          • @G-rig: What cooking oil do you recommend instead of olive oil?

            • +1

@OzBoganYeah: Depends what you cooking, a bit of water goes alright for the health concience (totally fine for stir fry veg etc)
Main thing is you don't need heaps, i still use some olive oil sometimes.

    Cheap as chips

  • Thanks these are great

  • +15

I stopped buying chips when they went over $3 marker..

    • -3

I’m happy to keep buying at under $20000 per ton. They should just make smaller packets so poor people can afford them (aka shrinkflation), with the added benefit of helping to limit serving sizes

    • $2 corn chips 200g better
      Those aren't even $2 now

  • no more S&S

    • S&S working as of now for me - was able to order now.

  • S&s gone for me

  • Does anyone know why ThinlyCut not sell bbq favour chip any more? Even in aldi They don't have thinly bbq chips.

    • I don't believe Smith's ever sold a thinly cut in their BBQ flavour. Closest I could find was this (not recommended as most non-standard BBQ flavours taste the same (i.e bad))

      • yes, this is the product I want to ask. Do you know why do they stop selling?

        • I'm guessing it's not popular enough? Aussies tend to like the saltier bbq variant (samboys/smiths) as opposed to the sweeter US style bbq (lays). It's a shame as I love bbq lays and can only get them in US snack stores or online.

          • @umoddbro: samboy such a nostalgic playground delicacy

            • @capslock janitor: For me atomic tomato and pizza punch were the go to.

              • +1

@umoddbro: They have/had a pizza flavour :o The craziest I've ever seen them get is their chicken in the green pack (but I'm a BBQ boi for life)

EDIT: Just found this monster after looking for the pizza flavour https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/255573034697?chn=ps&_ul=AU&norov…

                • @SpainKing: The pizza flavour was available back in the early 00's? It was the same time you could get those dragonball z tazos…. I only remember as I would grab a packet of samboys chips and a bottle of schweppes cola on the way to school almost everyday.

    • @paddywide @SpainKing

I BOUGHT THIS FROM ALDI $2.99 TODAY

Are Amazon grocery stock levels like the housing market? Or does Ozbargain clean them out immediately? Never see much that isn't out of stock within an hour.

  • DID COLES STOP DOING THE 290g BIG BAG PARTY SIZES FOR 1/2 PRICE?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/773365 WOULDVE BEEN CHEAPER @$1.47 / 100g

  • One packet of chips next day delivered straight to my door, what a time we live in :)

    • better get in before the practice is greenwashed ..

    • Going to take a week for me, even with Prime :(

  • Coles has the whole Red Rock range for $3.15 for anyone that missed out.

Not as convenient as Amazon, but not terrible if you can make up the $50 min order for Click&Collect.

  • Bought these recently and had about 4 weeks until best before date was up.

    • ha do you think they would sit around at your place for 4 weeks?

      • No, bought 3 :)

        • +1
