  • Booking Fee seems to be $7.50, not $15 ????

    • +1

Maybe $15 was return costs (they often charge per flight).

      • yep, when i quoted i went for return cost. deal edited

      • It's per sector

  • +3

Hanging out till 1/1/2013 when the RBA change on card fees comes in. Of course I'm sure the flights will then go up $15.

    • Hanging out till 1/1/2013 when the RBA chance on card fees comes in.

Do you really wanna take the chance though?

EDIT: Lol super-quick editing, by you, right upon my arrival, Bruce. How did you see me headed your way? ;P

    "Extra $7.50 per leg"

Do they still charge you if you have prosthetics?

    • +12

It all depends on whether or not they charged you an arm and a leg for the flight.

      • +5

… IT is Tiger after all.

        • +7

surely they wouldn't force you to foot the bill

        • +7

          or lend a hand

  • Anyone see deals for Perth to Adelaide return? Thanks…

    • jetstar had some last week, but not sure if that's expired…..

    • Think they're only flying to Mel from Adelaide.

  • +2

They charge $30 for an infant <2 sitting on your lap! Wtf

    • +3

i thought it was $7.50 per leg?

      • +10

        4-legged infant maybe?

  • +4

Can you believe, the taxi cost to the airport is more expensive than the flight cost to Adelaide

    • +2

Increasingly common. I once flew from London to Frankfurt, the train and bus to/from the airports were individually more expensive than the flight (including all fees).

    • +2

But at least with the taxi you don't get hit with a baggage charge.

      • +2

At least with the taxi they don't charge you $7.50 per leg lol

    • I got return flights to Sydney from Melbourne about 6 weeks ago for $18 (pricematched with Jetstar) the airport links at both ends cost me about $70.

  • +1

Call Jetstar for 10% pricebeat the fare and you dont have to pay any credit card fee.

    • +1

Jetstar do have credit card fees…

      • +2

Not if you price match. Try it sometime JV and you'll see. I can highly recommend price match with Jetstar. It's a very simple process with no added on fees and they knock 10% off the Tiger price. I would never fly Tiger- just go Jetstar and price match. Much better service and punctuality!

Except for the fact Tiger is the best ranking on time arrivals for the entire year aren't they?

        • The one time I picked someone up from Tiger the flight was very late. The point is not this sample size of 1, but that for over an hour there was NO announcement NO updating of the board and NOONE would talk to me. When they finally did update the board the new ETA had already passed.

          That is the difference.

        • +1

I can only speak from past experience. Have never had a problem with Jetstar. Tiger just cancel flights. To be honest I'd rather get to my destination, rather than having to buy a new ticket for 10 times the price of the original cause Tiger have cancelled.

Also link to the latest on time stats for July:
          http://www.bitre.gov.au/statistics/aviation/otp_month.aspx

Tiger 75.2% on time arrivals, versus 76.8% for Jetstar.
Tiger 2.1% flight cancellations, versus 1.4% for Jetstar.

So you are 50% more likely to have your flight cancelled with Tiger than Jetstar.

Also Jetstar run a lot more flights, so when they cancel they can rebook you, where as with Tiger you are left to your own devices as they run very few flights.

        • Another thing not shown by those statistics: are the late flights 5 minutes late or 2 hours late? Big difference.

        • I think they maintain this record by just cancelling flights altogether. Arrived at the airport for a syd-mel flight once, and the flight had been cancelled. No sms, no email, no call.,\

        • Flights eligible for Jetstar pricematch need to be within 1 hour of Jetstar flight. Most of the Tiger flights aren't :(

        • So you reckon there is no chance of getting price match by any other airlines?

      • If you call them directly to get the pricebeat fare, not only you will get 10% off the tiger's fare, they also dont charge you the credit card fee which works out even cheaper than tiger and a better service. Flown many times with jetstar in the past using the pricebeat and only once my flight was delayed.

used to fly Tiger from Adelaide-Melbourne almost monthly. then they ceased operation and I was forced back into the chains of Adelaide. had my fair share of problems (see my forum rant) but I have no issue with hopping back on another Tiger plane ASAP :) the poor student in me needs to get out somehow .. cheers!

  • God I wouldnt go near this airline. So many problems, rude staff, bad service. Not worth the risk.

Good to see Tiger returning to ADL. Even if I don't ever use them, the extra competition helps keep Qantas/Virgin airfares down.

They should be paying me $19.95 to go to Radalaide!

  • Thanks for the tip re. mastercard debit card, I was annoyed at having to pay $30 of fees on top of $80 airfares last time I booked with Tiger (37.5% extra!) . I didn't realise I can get one of these cards for free and pay nothing next time. That's more like it!

I think we were just extremely fortunate with Tiger. Must have flown with them at least 30 times before they were grounded and never been left in the lurch and was always more than satisfied with the service. I know about the horror stories other have encountered though.

  • Tiger is OK if you are flying without any dependency on connectin flights, and are willing to pack smart or be very accurate with the scales.

During the previous round of ADL-MEL routes by Tiger, they tend to have an 80% chance (in my experience, including family and friends) of rescheduling flights a few days before departure. I suspect this was to massage their capacity, reducing flights if underbooked etc. But I speculate.

The impact of the rescheduling was what killed it. That wedding you were flying in during the weekend for? Missed. That follow-on flight? taken off. Any pre-booked transport/arrival arrangements? Need to be rescheduled.

If you need it to be on your schedule when you made the booking (different to 'on time', ie will get there as stated) get another airline.

Just the other day i was complaining that tiger didn't fly to adelaide so i couldn't price match with jetstar, and lo and behold they come back, great timing.

  • I'm another person that has somehow managed to avoid tiger's terrible service even though I used to fly with them quite a bit. Never had an extremely late plane (later than 30mins) and never had a cancellation. Back in the day ADL to MEL was $30 which was a massive bargain compared to all the others and as soon as they left jetstar got way more expensive. Grab a master debit card to save on the $7.50 booking fee, if they still do that (I got a comsec one back in the day).

Very pleased to hear that tiger is back in adelaide!
