Great controller, had mine since March and paid full price off Ali ($110).

I use it for competitive Fortnite on PC - so it gets a fair beating when in use. The latency is fantastic and all of the buttons feel as though they will stand the test of time and trauma. I'm a huge fan of the way the paddles are positioned underneath and the way they click to press. Very ergonomic controller in my opinion for someone with pretty regular size hands.

    • Why is controller better than mouse in Fortnite? Aim assist?

      • Personal preference really.. it used to be "OP" using smg's close up when aim assist was a lot stronger but now it's balanced either way. I am more comfortable sitting back with a controller and find it so much easier to get a rhythm happening with my builds/edits on a controller.

  • Just switch and PC..? What about Xbox?

    • +3

Not supported, Xbox use their own wireless connection.

    • +2

Don't think this works with Xbox or PS. They have their proprietary controllers to sell…

      • Damn, I thought even the pro 2 worked in Xbox… guess I’m wrong

        • Also the button layout is Nitendo

    • I read online this can be used for Xbox and it has the 2.4g mode as Xbox set up controls. Maybe do some searching online?

      • Wouldn’t it just be so nice if one controller worked everywhere..

      • I wonder if that might be through the USB port only

As the Xbox 360 console and newer uses its own proprietary wireless connection for the controller. As in you can only use an official Xbox controller with the Xbox console if it's through wireless.

Even the Xbox controller uses a proprietary technology USB wireless dongle for the PC.

  • Man, if only the dpad and left analog stick is swapped and i would have considered…

  • Would love to get it but it's slightly more expensive than the Xbox Bluetooth/wireless controller on its discounted price… I hope the price on this goes lower.

I've got an official Xbox controller and two of these 8bitdo controllers, and I prefer the 8bitdo controller. Rechargeable battery, dock for charging, and the dock has the USB dongle in the base to act as the relay so you can position it nicely. It's also quite customisable, hall effect joysticks so no drift, good button feel and a great deal lighter than the Xbox controller.

For PC I've been using this to play the spider man games as well as FFXV, and I use steam to set it up with the switch button layout.

Have had mine since mid April, funny thing is I purchased it in mind for Nintendo Switch use…. but I've used it for pc gaming most of the time (Rocket League, GTA V, MK 11, SF V + SF 6) and it performs pretty well. I've also got it going as a "media" controller for the NVidia Shield. If you get it cheaper than $89, I'd consider it a bargain.

    • So Android is supported even though it's not listed as one of the supported platforms?

Did you buy the Bluetooth version or 2.4g version?

      • +1

It works on an Android phone and tablet I have.

Bluetooth mode 'just works'; 2.4g mode requires the 1.02 beta firmware as it enables on the fly input switching via some button combos.

        • +1

Thank you, working with Android definitely makes it more appealing.

    • Hows it go with the Nvidia? My Nvidia came with the little media remote and a game controller but it's aging and the batteries aren't holding charge like they once did.

      • +1

I've got an older model Shield, and only tried the 8bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth controller with it a few weeks ago upon discovering that the controller that came with the Shield doesn't hold its charge for very long now (like 2 hours or less).

I was still able to get the controller fired up in the bluetooth connection settings. I had to do some modifying of the settings in the actual apps of the Shield (kodi for example) but once that was done its been flawless.

        • Thanks mate. Almost missed it, the black wen tout of stock but I managed to get the last white one.

  • I have 3 official Nintendo controllers, and they all have drift. Anyone know how this performs vs the official ones, will I get drift with these too?

    • +5

Hall effect joysticks are what you're looking for, and the Bluetooth (but not 2.4ghz) version of this controller has them.

      • -2

This posting IS for the bluetooth variant

        • +5

Both the 2.4g and bluetooth controllers are under the same Amazon listing. If buying please be careful to select the correct model (check the item description too before adding to cart).

        • Bluetooth variant is meant to do both BT and 2.4g

    • +1

This version uses the Hall effect, a magnetic type sensor on the stick that's less prone to drift

  • +2

    This controller is GOAT

    • Yes apart from requiring the dongle for Windows (otherwise it's incorrectly run as a switch controller via BT with less function).
FYI this comes with the dongle too.

For windows and more variable use in different consoles, the Pro 2 is maybe the better choice.

      I have both.

  • Any body know if either the 2.4 or the bluetooth will work with a Chromebook ?

  • Damn good price! I paid around $100 off Aliexpress. Great joystick, best variant. Comes with a USB dongle for 2.4Ghz wireless mode too.
It even wakes up the switch from sleep if you lift the controller out of the dock and shake it!

  • Will it work on the switch lite, wireless?

    • It will since it pairs with the switch via Bluetooth.

  • Isn’t this listing for the controller at $74.25 sold by Amazon AU but not 8BitDo Official Store?
Not that there’s anything wrong with it as I guess warranty handling should be easier.

    • Updated

      • Yeah I was a bit confused too because it's the same listing as recent deals so I copied from there.

  • I got one of these and left analogue trigger is a lot less sensitive than the right. The right one registers when I barley touch it but the left one needs to be pushed in a lot before it starts doing anything.

I played with the settings in the app, but you can only make it less sensitive, not more.

Wondering if I should return it

    • Return it

    • Return it or boot up the app on the phone or in windows and recalibrate it.

  • Looks like the black version is sold out. White still in stock

  • Great stuff. Purchased BT version for Android phone.

    • Now I need a phone holder that clips onto this and I'm all set

  • Purchased white (black at discounted price is sold out), had to manually change from 2.4g to Bluetooth version.
My OLED Switch (Pokemon violet edition) already has stick drift and the only game I've played is BOTW and now half of TOTK. Pretty poor result and I'm hoping this controller is accurate enough in gyro to replace the OG joycons

    • +1

I've been using this in place of my pro controller, got two of them. Worth it over the pro controller due to versatility of platforms, charging dock with dongle inside and customisability.

The build quality of this is probably better than the other controller i've been keeping an eye on - the mobapad chitu. Mobapad has hall effect sticks, mechanical buttons, HD Rumble, Gyro, etc. The mobapad is supposed to be better for waking the switch as you can just hold the home button. That's the one downside of the 8bitdo, you gotta pull it off the dock and wait for the light to flash before shaking the controller to wake the switch. I usually just pull it off the dock and press the home button on the joycons on my switch.

  • Does the Bluetooth also come with the wireless dongle?

    • +2

      Yes

      • Cheers!

  • this or the Nintendo Pro controller better for zelda BoTW/ToTK?

    • +2

      This

      • +2

I recently purchase a black bluetooth model and the gyro works great in BoTW.

  • Does this work on RPCS3 for PC?

  • Back in stock

  • So I have just received it and my white one is BT/wireless/ cable support. The wireless dongle is in the bottom of the charging dock.

    • Yes we know that.

      • oof. i didnt reailse that was the case until i got it in my chubby hands

  • bought this for 10 bucks more the day prior damn it!

  • Back in stock for even a little bit cheaper at $73.96. So good I had to get a 2nd one for my 2nd PC :)

    • That one is from Shop4funAU, not Amazon AU.

      • True - does make returns a bit more troublesome if ever needed.
