amaysim $10.00 Starter Pack $5.00 @ Officeworks & Woolworths

1450

Posting this because it can be used on the 365 Day "Pay As You Go" $10 Plan which was very popular.

Proof here. Credit to DaBz.

The PAYG plan is handy if you want to park your number or need a phone for mainly receiving calls with data turned off.
Also I think Amaysim works overseas for receiving SMS (please comment if you know for sure).

Pay As You Go Plan Features

  • Credit lasts for 365 days
  • 12c / min standard calls to mobile & landlines
  • 12c / standard SMS
  • 5c / MB data (no data included, it's a PAYG plan)
  • 29c/min calls to 13 numbers, free calls to 18 numbers in Australia
  • 12c/min voicemail retrieval
  • Optus 4G Network with VoLTE
  • No lock-in contract

Good deal (if you want to be with optus/ 100% optus subsidiary )
    Credit lasts for 365 days

Dont forget incoming/OTP receiving lasts a lot more than 365 days (maybe another 60/90/180 days) after the 365 days

Edit:- after finding out optus owns 100% of amaysim I personally would avoid it (due to personal hate towards optus)

    • You want to confirm either 60/90/180 days if you don't want to lose your number

      • +1

just dial 555 and choose to hear your balance. it will tell you

        • good to know ty

        • +1

Or you can sms BAL to 568

    • +7

If you're just parking a number, don't forget that after 365 days on PAYG you can switch to the 10$ plan (to use up the credit), disable auto-recharge (which switches you back to PAYG), and get another 365 days of incoming calls / texts.

      • Thanks for the tip as I need to do this soon. Does anyone know another way to keep your number after 365 days? I’m overseas so won’t use the $10 credit if I switch

        • +1

I guess just let it auto recharge for another 365 days.

        • You’ll need to top another $10 to get another 365days. Hence switching to $10 plan and then back seems a much better option .

      • You mean after 364 days? The credit would be expired after 365 days.

    • Why the Optus hate? I don't love Optus but it seems to have better reception than Vodafone generally…

      • +3

was wih optus 15-16 years ago. they had a data leak not long ago & they lost my data. they held on to my information for years after i left & more importantly did not do enough to keep it secure.

        • AHH yes. Gotcha, completely understand. I'm with amaysim so my data was not leaked. Third party. If I had your experiences though I wouldn't touch even third party sellers either.

  • can we get this on esim?

    • +2

Yep, activate sim, them request esim via app

  • +6

Careful with the 29c per minute to 13 numbers. I got put on hold and burnt through $30 before they even answered!

    • It's basic knowledge for all PAYG plans to be aware of

      • Maybe. I normally use prepaid and have no such issues. Never again for me.

  • If I buy this, can I activate it whilst overseas?

I'm on ALDI PAYG, but I want to move to amaysim for their cheap roaming add-on.

    • +1

      Can't see why not.

Don't think I can remember doing a SIM activation that was (Australian) location-dependant.

      • It doesn't need to connect to local service towers?

        • There might be a technological reason why you can't, which is beyond my knowledge. I was referring mainly to the process/confirmation of activation.

    • +1

I didn't know about Amaysim, but I have had a Boost SIM activated once in China the day before I travel back to AUS, didn't seems to have any issue. Although I didn't receive any SMS during the last day so I am only 99% sure it was fine.

    • +2

Yes, you can. I activated an Amaysim starter pack when I was on my way back from Denmark. I activated it when I was in Bangkok. But it was in 2019.

  • expiry? ie can you buy 3 of these and use them over 3 years?

edit: says 7 day expiry on OW page.. doesnt say anything about 365 days though.

    • +2

I've had Amaysim packs from around 2016 still activating successfully in 2022

      • Noice

    • +2

On the pack it says activate within 12 months. So not sure if the current sims have this requirement compared to the older sims which have no expiry.

      • +1

good to know, easy enough to buy two and set a calendar reminder. Other thing to note, i guess plans may change significantly in that time anyway.

  • How do u keep the # yours on minimum $?

  • I've got a weird amaysom plan which is pay as you go. But I get charged via cc.

And I have to call them to renew every year.

    • Sounds like an old som plan.

      • +1

Can you imagine in a few years from now all this "give them a call" stuff will be a thing of the past, like dial-up internet.

The next couple of evolutions beyond eSIM and it will all just be automatic. We'll just sign up for subscriptions and change service providers in the blink of an eye. Perhaps a literal blink of an eye via neural link.

        • They will all end up using a similar system to what Donald did when he was declassifying secret documents.

  • I’m currently with Amaysim but still need to park another number from Telstra. Would this starter park work for current customers?

    • Just make a new account

    • +1

You can add multiple numbers under same account.
I have 4 numbers active (for family members) under my name only

    • Yes. I was already an Amaysim customer when I activated 2x more Amaysim SIMs recently, but 2 weeks apart. At first I added +02, +03 to my gmail address, but (I assume) because my home address and/or drivers license were the same as the first account, the Amaysim site asked did I want to access my existing account. I ignored that message and continued with the activation which made 2 new and separate accounts. (So I now have 3x separate accounts/logins.)

  • +1

So this can lasts for 364 days? Thanks

    • Yes. As per the original post just sign up to a basic $10 pay-as-you-go plan and don’t use it for any mobile data or outgoing calls or SMS. Then, at the end of the year switch to a $10 post paid plan and turn off recurring billing so it expires after the first month. Your service should remain live for incoming calls and SMS only for another year.

    • +2

If you setup on the 365 day $10 Pay As You Go plan it stays connected forever until you cancel or port out. If you never use the $10 credit, when 12 months is up it auto debits your bank/CC/Paypal another $10 and that is now day 1 of 365 days again.

Or if you use your $10 of call/text/data credit say 2 months in, it similarly auto debits another $10 to always keep you in credit and again resets to day 1 of 365 days.

Or once you activate it you can login and turn off auto recharge. THEN you would only have 365 days as long as you don't use up the credit. Obviously then you won't be able to call/text/browse until you turn auto recharge back on. In that case you can still receive, but not send.

  • I am confused.
It says $10 / 7 days on the image.
    How is this 365 days?

    • You choose what plan to activate on, the default is the 7 day option but you can also choose the 365day PAYG.

    • +4

      Buy.
      Activate.
Change to the 365 days "Pay As You Go" plan.
You now have $10 credit that holds your number/lasts 1 year, unless you make outgoing calls/texts/internet.

There is an auto debit feature that draws in $10 from your bank/CC/Paypal if you do use up the $10 credit by making calls/text/data. Or you can turn auto debit off in "Manage Your Account" - your choice.

I leave it turned on for emergencies like if I need to use the internet or make calls when my main carrier goes offline. It uses up the $10 then auto recharges (debits another $10).

Or turn it off if you're certain you only want to receive, not send, calls/text.

  • SO can I get the odd messages for 365 days with this plan? All for the initial $10??

    • +1
    • +1

Yes but make sure auto recharge is turned off, or it will debit another $10 a year from now.

      • Thank!

  • Does this give a new number? And can it be used for sign up deals that require a new phone number such as the GYG free burrito sign up deal?

    • +1

Your choice. New number or port.

And since it's a new number it probably works for most things like you say, as long as they don't detect you're the same person in other ways. e.g. I would use a different email address.

      • -1

That's what I plan to do. $5 dollar burritos everyday lol.

  • +1

Ty just got one from officeworks. Can confirm there is a generic $10 starter pack inside the sleeve that says $10/7 days, so assuming it will be good for payg. Need to port my spare number from aldi soon so was a good deal

  • Would that be a 365 PAYG plan if I buy from Officeworks a $5 SIM? or do I need to buy the $10 one from amaysim website?

  • +1

    So….
I buy the sim, activate, change to a 365 plan on the account, then the 10gb will last me a year?

I want to put in a credit card machine, it uses very little data, 10gb should last a year !

Do you reckon this will work?

    • +1

You dont get 10gb if you activate it on 365 day payg. Only if you activate it on the 7 day plan

  • Random question: I got the 60gb unlimited 1 yr plan for ~$65, whats the go with advertising my own referral codes on ozb nowadays if I post it?

    • +1

Where did you get that sim/ offer, ?

  • I already have my one number with amaysim, planning to bring another number through this. Do I need to create new account or can activate this new sim under same account but different mobile? also based on above, I buy sim starter pack, activate it and transfer exiting number and during sign-up process it shall ask me if I want to go PAYG plan and I select 365 days…is that correct?

  • Could be good for sim hopping.

  • Does Wifi calling work while you’re overseas

    Boost does work

  • I bought this $5 SIM last week from Officeworks as I need to port out my existing Boost Mobile to other network and port back in to use the Boost Mobile starter sim. Yes, you have 3 options when you register this $10 amaysim SIM. Cannnot comment on the quality of amaysim as I only used to for less than a day.

    • what are the 3 options you have when you register pls…and can I use existing amaysim account with bringing in different number

      • +2

        Option 1: 10 GB - 7 days plan
        Option 2: 1 GB - 30 days plan
        Option 3: 0 GB PAYG - 365 days plan (no data/call inclusion)

Yes, you can port in a number to amaysim, I ported my number from Boost Mobile to amaysim, them back to Boost Mobile

        • thanks. when you select option 3…does that give you $10 credit on 365 days plan?

    • Was buying a blank Amaysim $2 SIM not an option to allow porting in/out?

      • +1

A blank $2 sim from amaysim requires a payment for credit when activating.

        • ah thanks for this, i didn't know

          • +1

@JJlikes2eat: It's all good, we learn from experience or guts, I hit office works today… apparently 2 sim limit, So they sold me 6 sims….

  • Got an existing Amaysim 365 PAYG number, can I buy multiples of these to use as half-price yearly extensions?

  • 50% off

  • i've been trying to activate one of these since the weekend. no go through the website or app.

live chat are not allowed to process activations too.

    • amaysim live chat helped me through a porting issue (they were super helpful)

  • My son has his number parked on this amaysim plan while he is OS - he has added it as an eSIM - i tried sending an SMS as a test but unfortunately it did not go through. I am wondering if 2FA SMSs from banks get through, and general SMS does not.

    • It should receive any sms as regular numbers.

You can always check by calling 555 or texting BAL to 568 as mentioned above by @thekensai and @Cocochicken

      • So roaming plan not required to receive texts? I know you used to be able to receive texts while overseas, but wasnt sure whether you could after they rolled out the roaming packs (ie whether you needed a roaming pack to receive texts from Aus)

  • +1

I just realised I could move an old sim over to this plan via my account with no credit obviously. It was almost about to expire (had no credit for nearly 12 months).

So it will keep going for another year, winning!!!

  • I may have done this wrong. I wanted a 2nd line for random inbound SMS when I am required to supply one. Wanted to take advantage of the 365 pay as you go. Am happy to pay $10 per year to keep this alive.

    • Got Starter Pack for $5 from Officeworks
    • Activated on Amaysim - and here's where I think I went wrong. Activated the 10gb/7 days for $10. Should have activated the PAYG plan from the start, eh?
    • Now, how do I fix it? I accept I may have to shell out another $10 in stupid tax. Do I let the 7 days ride out and then switch the plan over to the PAYG? Or turn off the auto-debit and the acct magically becomes PAYG? I don't want to come to the end of the year, forget and then lose the acct so am fine to have $10 charged to my Paypal each year.

Can someone advise a confused OzBargainer?

    • Use the online chat and tell them you activated on the wrong plan. Their customer service is usually very helpfull.

      • +1

Excellent! I will do this first thing tomorrow. Thx for the advice.

  • Hoping someone can tell me exactly where in my account Settings to turn off auto recharge.

    • I dont think you can 'turn off' auto recharge for payg as such. Auto recharge only an option for monthly/6 monthly/yearly plans. I have both yearly and payg plans with them, and there wasnt an option to turn it off on payg so i assumed there was no 'auto recharge' for it

      • +1

You can, it under settings, my 365day pay as you go has it turned off.

        • R u seeing this option in your Amaysim mobile app ?I dont see this when I access myaccount via browser web portal.

  • Amaysim sell the $30 starter for $12. Can I set this up as a payg that lasts 12 months or do I have to get the $10 starter?
