So you have to gets keys seperately??

Never seen this before. It's sort of like getting a yoghurt but only getting container…. :)

It's just one part of a keyboard. Not only do you need keycaps but you'll also need switches.

Akko does also sell complete keyboards, for people who don't want the hassle of putting switches and keycaps in.

    • +1

You have to get the keys and switches separately.

      • What's the total damage to get all keys and switches filled in? Thanks.

        • +1

depending on the switches and keycaps, you're looking at around an extra $100-200

I bought my pre-lubed CS Silver switches from Akko Aliexpress store. Cost 22 USD

Or buy from Amazon (non-lubed) for around 20 AUD. There's currently a deal for CS crystal for $13.

Buy when there's increased cashback to maximise savings.

Keycaps can be pretty cheap, there's a lot of variety but I think a full set starts from $15 and can go up to $30 if you want nicer materials.

@scrimshaw: can be over 100 for a set of good key caps, and thats before you even start looking at "artisan" crap. You absolutely do not need to spend anywhere near that though to have a high quality keyboard.

          • @scrimshaw: DAMN! I do like things pre-lubed but ….. Thanks for the information dude. this is a whole new world for me!

@Naigrabzo: Careful mate, it's a very expensive rabbit hole to fall into. Your YouTube recommendations will change immediately. Lots of folks got into the hobby during lockdown but it's eased off a bit since. And I say that as an outsider still looking at builds

This allows you to select the exact case, switches and keycaps you want. A number of better keyboards are sold like this.

There's a sale on the following akko switches via pccasegear with free shipping

Akko CS Air Switches 45 Pack - $15
    cs air video showcase

Akko CS Snow Blue Grey Switches 45 Pack - $19
    snow blue video showcase

You will have to get 3 packs of either switches to fill the whole board in this deal.

    • went looking for tactile switches instead, came across this gem:

"On sale! (normally $19)" on a $22 listing.

also, there's an overwhelming selection of tactile switches, anyone have any recommendations for/against any of them?

      Lavender Purple
      Ocean Blue
      Cream Blue
      Cream Pro
      Jelly Blue
      Jelly Purple
      Or anything else?

      • I would have mentioned KTT as they manufacture the Akko switches, but you've specified tactile which is more or less in the same price range. (And I think they have like… two of.)

I believe the Gazzew Boba are a bit of a meme, however are very much out of the budget end of the spectrum.

There's also the MMD Princess at the budget end too, but the travel on those is a little short to what you may be used to. (3.1mm on the tactiles)

        • Where is the mmd princess sold ?

sounds too similar to anko …

Keep hoping Keychron would update their line up with Monsgeek undercutting them with reportedly better boards.
