Deal is back boys and girls and others.

Amazon is price matching woolies on this as usual.
These Ready to eat meals are easy and very cheap to make, just shove contents of the package in a microwavable bowl, cover it and run for 2 ish mins. and then enjoy the cheap tasty meal.
Others in past have suggested it can also be used when camping, by shoving the closed packaging in boiling water for some time and then take out and eat.

If you are wondering about healthy, may be not so healthy dude, nevertheless its cheap as F. and way healthier than other crap like donuts, corn syrup, muffins etc.

$2.20 options are

Dal Makhni, Pav Bhaji, Dal Fry, Palak paneer, Bhindi Masala.

Chana Masala is $2.40 for some reason sorry

If you are unsure which flavour to get, I'd recommend getting the Dal Makhni its an all time favorite, cannot go wrong with it. You can also try one at woolies locally if you want to try one before making a bigger order.
If you like quite spicy stuff then Bhindi Masala is the one for you.
All other ones are decent too.

Also if you order $40 stuff, you could stack the 5% discount on that order too (available on certain amazon grocery products). Works on all the $2.20 products mentioned here. Should also says "Spend $40.00, save 5%" on the item page, (i.e. 19 of these $2.2 range items mentioned)

    boys and girls and others.

Thank you. I identify as an other and it's good to be addressed for once.

    • +13

      Username checks out.

  • +25

Ok, lets get this out on a plate.
    Nice

    • +1

I said this in my head when I read the title

Went to the comments, was not disappointed

    • +4

      Nice hiss

    • +2

      Absolutely decadent

    • Ohh man that's got nuts in it, you just know it's going to be rancid. Maybe I can bite around it….

      Classic Steve!!

  • best one?

    • +1

Everyone has different taste, and thus different preference. However if you want a safer option as mentioned earlier
Dal Makhni is the option to go with.

    • +7

If you are unsure which flavour to get, I'd recommend getting the Dal Makhni its an all time favorite, cannot go wrong with it.

    • +2

Safe one - dal varieties , paneers ones are like bullets , okra is slimy and disgusting.

If you get dal from indian store which is 8 bucks a kilo you can make delicious curry for a month.

      • +4

I think you've been eating okra the wrong way.
As any vegetable, it shouldn't be slow cooked / over-cooked / curried etc.

A minute or two in a whatever soup base and done.

    • +2

If you don’t mind a bit of spice, I rate the Chana Masala (chickpea).

      • Had this for lunch today with some frozen peas and leftover rice. Delish.

    • Chana Masala which is a mild, maybe too mild, chickpea curry.

  • +7

I love Palak Paneer, there's just something special about spinach and paneer cheese

    • +3

And spinach and ricotta, and spinach and melted mozzarella, and spinach and cottage cheese.

  • -7

    Trans fat containing Indian food

    • +3

No trans fat on the first three I checked.

Which one did you mean again?

    • -1

trans and fat in the same sentence ? you gonna get cancelled

  • Cool I'll give the Dal one a go

  • -8

Try feeding it to your dog first, I bet he won't like it

  • -4

Quite literally slop in a box.

  • Are any of these mild or taste like a butter chicken.

    • butter chicken is chicken in a makhani 'sauce', so you'd probably like the dal makhani or the paneer makhani.

  • Thanks OP. I had missed out on this deal last time but did buy full price and concur that some of these are delicious. Time to stock up 😂

    • Oh and a tip for the connoisseurs, try the Pav Bhaji with steamed BBQ pork buns from Woolies.

  • +1

Anyone remember the Tasty Bite ones in supermarkets years ago? Peas paneer, Jaipur vegetables, Kashmir spinach, Agra peas & greens, etc. At some point they went to crap with cost-cutting reformulations, so I stopped buying them and have missed the originals ever since. Pretty curious how these compare.

  • -5

These have preservatives & I bet you a lot of sugar which will eventually make you fat. Why would a dal makhni or paneer be so cheap.????

    • +1

On the contrary, I lost weight on these after eating just these with rice for dinner for 2 weeks. 1 packet per dinner. Don't ask. I was going through a phase.

      • Dal is one of the cheapest and healthiest food on planet not to mention environmentally friendly too

    • +1

I bet you a lot of sugar

No they do not. This is not a muffin or cake dude. Sure they got some carbs and carbs break down into sugars eventually. But these do not have that even near enough sugars to a sugary food.

    • +1

I think you might be confused on the actual cost of making indian food? might cost a pretty penny to order it in, but it's one of the cheapest cuisines out there, especially if you're making the paneer/curds from scratch (which is really easy to do)..

      • These have preservatives & I bet you a lot of sugar

That person wouldn't even check the ingredients which are listed right there in hi resolution. So ignorant.

  • The deal seams nice but the brand is not very good and authentic. I'd probably still avoid. If you haven't tried then should give it a go. But don't go crazy just because it's cheaper now.

  • Do these have a strong enough flavour to be eaten with rice/naan/roti? Or are these mild flavoured and supposed to be eaten by itself.

Also whats the shelf life of these?

    • +1

One i looked at said 12 months from manufacture.

    • +1

Also whats the shelf life of these?

depends on the item IMO. But as a general rule all items on amazon (including this one) should have a BB date >90days from order date.
Generally you would easily get like 6-12 months BB date on these, but at times you could be unlucky too (which is generally product dependent aka if you order more of that same item, amazon will send same item with same BB date)

  • +1

I wouldn’t call these meals. As far as i could tell they all have less than 200 calories and less than 5g protein.

You’d be better off getting the Woolies frozen microwave meals for ~$3.50.

    • +1

      It's not as tasty

    • Dal is almost half protein obviously you can make better yourself but these are much tastier then frozen meals and no chemicals

    • +1

They are if you plonk them on rice, which is the whole idea on most of them.

  • +4

These are great as a base. I add some meat protein and steamed veggies and have a decent meal for $6 or less. great for a quick lunch of to bulk up some left overs.

Have to try some boiled eggs with one.

    • Same here! I like to cut up some chicken pieces and fry them first to get some browning then chuck in the packet to warm up in the pan.

  • -1

I tried a few, the only one I would buy again is Chana Masala, but not if they are going to get all snotty and charge more.

  • +2

Love the MTR Dal Makhani but it looks like dogs breakfast.

  • I can't remember ever seeing these at Woolworths. Are they meant to be in the same section with the curry pastes, papadams etc?

    • +3

Usually yes. Not all Woolworths stock them though

      • Thanks. Reckon my usual store mustn't stock them then.

        • They are also on sale at Coles for $2.40 each. And you can do a rain check if they don't have them

    • just ask a team member in store, surely someone would know, But from my experience it is in international foods section

      • I couldn't find them online. Then, when I go to Amazon, the spinach one says it takes a month to dispatch. Have you order these from Amazon?

        • +1

Probably because so many ordered stuff from Amazon that they gotta wait for restock now

    • Just saw them at Coles on the international food section but only 2 flavours. I ordered from Amazon and still had many flavours except the spinach one, that's on backorder.

  • Dal Makhni sold out ?

  • None of these are really spicy hot - I keep a bottle of cayenne handy to give them some life.

    Good cheap meals from Amazon.
I keep these around for my son- they are perfect student lunches when combined with rice or naan / chapati.
