  • 32GB (2x16GB)

Does this mean dual rank or does it mean you’re buying two sticks in one package?

    • 2 sticks, so not ideal if you require high ram with limited slots. For general builds its good though, as matched specs/timings of ram is ideal for optimal performance.

  • why is the Apple MAC mini still using 8GB?

    • My server has 4GB and runs like a brute. It also helps that it is a proprietary product and the OS doesn’t have to account for billions of permutations of hardware and applications past present and future.

    • +3

to force you to upgrade or buy a new system quicker,

    • Because the entry level models are designed for a productivity workload, Apple silicon/MacOS is more efficient with RAM and because Apple want to make as much profit as possible.

    • +1

Because they get to advertise a low base price for a system no one should actually buy. The config you should be getting (16gb/512ssd) is like 500$ more (lmao, what a joke). That's the problem with apple, base prices are OK, but only to get you considering them.

  • Why thata cheaper than ddr4?

    • +3

It's low end ddr5, high end ddr4 is more expensive than low end ddr5, but low end ddr4 is still significantly cheaper then low end ddr5.

      • +2

In saying that, ive noticed consistent improvements on the lowend ddr5 over high end ddr4 on most of my builds (although id imagine most of the benefit is achieved in extreme OC which i dont do)

        • Interesting, what CL and Hz is the ram, and model if you don't mind me asking?

          • +1

@Matte101: I think latest comparison was cl36/6k vs cl16/3.6k but ill have to confirm next week.

while gaming wise there was almost no impact with ddr5, work tasks (ram/cpu heavy) have been notably better

  • In looking at buy a set of these, any good for a AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D build.

    • Good match. I run the same sticks on one of my systems. Although I had to increase the ram voltage to 1.3v then the system would boot OK.

  • Would this be good for a Intel i5-12600K?

    • What's your GPU resolution and usual fps? Knowing that can help me answer.

      • I want to play in 1440p, and no usual FPS tbh I don't play that often, this would be my second PC, first with a GPU card. I'm not a super user, won't be doing crazy overclocking or anything like that lol

        • If your motherboard supports ddr5 then it's ok, especially if you have a budget pc, you can see performance differences of upwards of 20% with good ram vs bad ram but in most cases I'd guess you'd be GPU bound so this is good for the price, just make sure the motherboard you get has ddr5 not ddr4. If you are getting a high end card, eg the 7900xtx, 4070ti+ then at 1440p paying an extra $90 would certainly be worth it for a good set of ram tho, as your GPU will not be as likely to limit your performance in game so the CPU and ram will largely determine how many frames you can squeeze out.

  • Is this enough dedicated wam for my minecwaft server?

    • +3

You need to underclock your W key 5 characters

  • "Ripjaws S5 is a high-performance DDR5 memory tailor-made for the latest Intel Core processor platform. "

Can this RAM be used in an AMD AM5 motherboard?

    • +1

yup its as long as its DDR5

  • Hmmm, tempting but I guess I wait for a 64gb deal hopefully by the time I put everything else together

  • 5200 and CL40 isn't exciting ….. are people just assuming anything with DDR5 is fast ??????

    • +3

No, they're assuming $99 for 32GB of DDR5 is a great deal. Which it is.

If you're looking for high performance RAM then you won't find it at this end of the market 👍

  • Over supply of cheap chips good for PC people. BUT
Who would have thought that new cars being in short supply because of lack of chips is complete BS
