Wing Wah Double Yolk Lotus Mooncake (2pcs White Lotus + 2pcs Regular Lotus) 740g $48.88 @ Costco (Membership Req'd)

1040

This is not part of Wing Wah's standard range, so I can only assume its a special just for Costco. No link available.

Contains:
2 x Wing Wah White Lotus Moon Cake with 2 Yolks (185g each)
2 x Wing Wah Lotus Moon Cake with 2 Yolks (185g each)
Wing Wah Paper Gift Bag

I've compared the ingredients lists with the standard Wing Wah products and it seems to be the same (68% lotus paste, 16% duck egg). Still Made in Hong Kong as well so the quality should be there. Expiry 30-11-2023.

Given that mooncake prices over the past 5 years have been hitting the $60+ mark (for the traditional Made in Hong Kong segment), this seems to be a pretty good price. You can of course wait for Mid-Autumn to be over and pick up the leftovers, but the lotus ones tend to be sold out by then.

Plenty of stock at Lidcombe and Casula NSW - unknown about other Costco stores.

  • maybe I am just getting old, but I haven't had any moon cakes for the last couple of years……….. I used to be able to eat a whole cake in one seating, but last time I tried it, I could barely get through 1/4, and I had to wash it down with a big cup of dark tea……….

    • Just getting old, I was the same. These days even if I had some it would be the nostalgia aspect.

    • i can still wolf down an entire mooncake. but needs to be cut into quarters or eighths. being a savage n eating it, makes it feel too overwhelming cause its a lot of lotus or a lot of egg. But the sugar does get to you.

  • +2

Few dozen left on display at Lidcombe just now. Not sure if they have more stock inside though.

Thank you op! My grandma will be thrilled

  • Pretty sure I'm allergic to something in these, it might be red bean paste. I can't force myself to eat them, I get an involuntary gag relfex and feel sick afterwards. I always feel like that guy who's culturally insensitive refusing this stuff

    • Damn, sad to hear it. I don't think there are red beans in this one (though red bean filled moon cakes exist).

Better not to gamble in case they use the same equipment for red bean and lotus fillings.

Could be peanut oil, egg white or yolk, red bean or lotus seed.

      • Definitely not peanut or egg, maybe lotus seed?

        • I forgot that there is usually sunflower seeds (whole or coarsely chopped) with the lotus seed paste.

          • @DarkOz: Def not sunflower seeds, have eaten this on their own quite a few times

    • @Jackson Another allergen could be lye water (kansui) in mooncakes

  • Sadly not available in WA

  • OOS in Lidcombe

  • 6 yolks or go home ;)
