  • be careful with consoles as i'm pretty sure these only support PAL-50, so you pretty much cannot capture any games released in the last 3 years,

    • I have one of these units, and I can confirm that it only handles stock PAL (50Hz) and stock NTSC (59.94 Hz). You can force the unit to NTSC mode and get a good B&W picture from a PAL-60 feed, but I don't think that it's clear enough to do software post-processing to retrieve the colour information. I haven't tried, though.

Obviously these will be good for converting old home VHS tapes to avi?

    • i bought one from ebay for the exact same reason.. let's hope it works.

      • can you post back here or pm if it does.. very interested to know

  • How much is shipping?? I paid $13 (inc. shipping) for one of these a year ago :(

    • Hi, MrZ,
      It's world wide free shipping.

  • Rep, in that details bar you've put up there, I think maybe you've put the prices in arse-backwards.

Shouldn't the "Original Price" be "AU$9.98" (rather than AU$4.99).. and the "Price" (as of now) be "AU$4.99" (rather than "AU$9.98")?

      Hi, Flippant,
      Yes, I've make a mistake.
      Thank you for reminding me.

      I have corrected it now.

      • You're welcome, Rep. :)

Why the price is still AU$9.98? When you stated 4.99 here ?

        • Hi,teragiga,
Use the coupon:Tmart2050 and the price goes down to AU$4.99.

  • Been thinking about getting one of these to transfer my old footy vids from when I was a kid from VHS onto DVD, for $5 I'll give it a shot and see it it works!

  • is it gonna work with NTSC (NTSC tapes to avi files) ?

    • Yes, I've tried mine and it works with both NTSC and PAL tapes.

    • Yes, as long as your VHS deck doesn't helpfully translate the signal to PAL-60 in between.

  • Super good price. Daily deals usually sell this for around $25 (claiming that it's "50% off")

  • I noticed that this comes with Ulead Video Studio 8.0 SE. Not sure how much difference it would make, but some of the ones I've seen on ebay come with a later version ie Ulead Video Studio 10.0 SE.

  • I have had one of these for several years (and paid $20 for it, shipped), and I find it an extremely serviceable little unit. But there are four things to keep in mind the first time you use this device, to lessen any potential disappointment:
    1) Analog SD video was always blurry and low-res; your perception has been spoiled by modern PC monitors and HD TV.
    2) Consumer-grade VHS recordings are even sloppier than a clean, professional analog SD feed; even with a high-end VHS deck, but especially if you used long-play recording to double or quadruple your tape length.
    3) The real-time preview of the video in Ulead Studio is, for some reason, actually slightly more blurry than the recorded video file.
    4) You have only paid $5 for this complete hardware and software digitising system.
