Sennheiser IE 200 In-Ear Headphones $149 Delivered @ Minidisc

420

I'm very happy with my IE 200s which I paid $199 for, so I can easily recommend them at $149 for anyone looking for a well balanced, entry-to-mid level IEM. To me they produce a sensible amount of bass and treble. Not muddy and not too spicy. The mids are allowed to come through clearly, which is what I personally like to hear most from a headphone.
In my ears they are very comfortable. With the silicone tips I can barely feel them in my ears and they remain comfortable for hours. The foam tips provide some extra noise isolation and stay in place better while I'm walking, at the expense of some bass and treble.
One criticism would be the tips don't stay in the 2nd tip position and pop into the regular position as I push them into my ears no matter how careful I am. However I'm already happy with the bass/treble balance, so I doubt I would use the 2nd position much anyway. Another negative is that the cable still hasn't fully straightened out after 4 months and it's one of the cheaper feeling aspects of the product, although it is replaceable which is nice to know.

$180 at jb, $230 at a2a. Seems like a legit deal.

Genuinely decent reviews across headfi, whathifi, headfi, etc.

  • These seem to be great earphones.
Just wondering if the body is built out of metal or plastic?

    • They are plastic, which makes them very light.

  • price beat with officeworks here. seems to be online only tho.

    nice writeup btw!

  • Good earphones for a decent price.
Acoustically i find them safely balanced, which could be good or bad depending on your preferences.
Physically they are comfortable to wear for long periods due to its shape and size

My only problem is these noticeably isolate less external noise due to the vent.

  • I got these from Amazon for $167 two weeks ago after my rha ma750 finally packed it in.

Paired with my V50 phone, it's very balanced and the foam tips work extremely well for isolation in the office.

    Highly recommended.

  • Anyone have experience comparing these to Shure SE215’s? I’ve been thinking about switching my IEM’s recently

    • Ahhh Shure SE215s… my first real iems. After going through a tiny bit of an audiophile rabbit hole going back to them was rough. I am not saying they are very bad but once I had 5” monitors, HD6xx and hell even the Kz zs10 pro’s, I just thought they weren’t really worthy of the “standard iems” of the industry title.

      • I mix on monitors but prefer IEM’s for tracking. Zs10’s look interesting. Do you have recs (chi-fi or otherwise) for relatively neutral IEM’s <$150?

        • Ah, I haven’t used that many iems and really wouldn’t be reliable source of recommendations mate sorry, especially for iems. Kz’s are pretty highly rated but not sure how good you’d find them mixing. I also used moondrop quarks and they are impressive little things for the price, again for mixing no idea. But I feel like sennheisers is a reliable brand.

I mean really love and prefer AirPods Pro 2, so yeah I don’t know how audiophiles or professionals will feel about that..

But if you have the opportunity, I’d say nothing can really beat mixing on monitors.

          • @Larsson: Thanks for your reply! I mix on monitors and enjoy AirPods Pro 2 for referencing and general listening. I reach for IEM's specifically to put in while tracking hear the takes isolated and clearly. Moondrop and KZ both seem to make decent offerings. I might have a crack at the Aria 2's :)

  • nice deal op

  • Can you get a 2.5mm balanced cable for these?

    • +1

      yes

    • +3

Just a heads up, while the IE 200 uses an MMCX connector, not every third party MMCX cable will fit the IE 200 as the plastic collar around the socket may prevent cables from inserting.

      • Thanks. Do you know if Sennheiser make replacement cables for them then? Might as well go official…

        • We have 4.4mm cables for the IE series (the non-braided type that comes with the IE 600 / IE 900) but it happens to cost more than the IE 200 itself: https://www.minidisc.com.au/sennheiser-mmcx-cable-with-4-4-m…

We are awaiting some of the IE 200 braided style cables which will come with 3.5+ mic, 4.4mm balanced and 2.5mm balanced. These will come in at $109.95, and should be arriving at some point this month. The stock 3.5mm cable will also be arriving for $79.95.

    • As the minidisc rep mentioned, the ie200 have the same recessed, notched mmcx connector as etymotics (and a few others)

      You can either:
      1. Buy dedicated cables for it (your selection is pretty minimal and usually $$$)
      2. Get a n5005/etymotic/…. to mmcx (or connector of your choice) adaptor. This will add a bit of length.
      3. Cut off the extra plastic (not recommended)
      4. Cut the cable end. Ie. The linsoul mmcx cables you see on ozbargain every now and then have left/right colour rings you can cut off. Just make sure you mark it with a left/right identifier.

How would something like these compare to Sony's WF-1000XM4?

    • +2

There is no active noise cancelling, but the sound isolation if you fit these properly should be quite good. From my experience with the IE 300, there is a noticeable improvement in tonality, but is tuned more neutral compared to the Sony's (slight bass boost if I remember correctly). IMO I would prefer the Sony's as a daily-use due to the convenience of bluetooth.

      • Cool, thank you. Just interested in sound quality. The Sony buds sound pretty good for their size.

I'd argue if you want a taste of the IEM-world, budget Chinese-makers (Moondrop, ?Blon, KZ) are a good start in the same budget as these ~$150. I've been out of the scene a bit, but these are what comes to mind. You'll notice a notable sound difference with some of these, maybe someone else can give more input.

          • @hjin: My thought exactly, really keen to see how these chinafi headphones compares to the Senn. I'm betting on these Chinese IEMs putting Senn to shame in terms of value, but I've also been out of the scene for a while.
Might add Truthear Zero to your list too.

Hi Ozbargain! Thanks for sharing this deal. Just a heads up that this deal ends tomorrow. We are sitting on plenty of stock, but even if we run out, this price will be offered right up till 8 August 11:59PM AEST. If we run out of stock, backorders will ship around next week once we get more stock in from Sennheiser.

    Cheers!

  • Bought one just to give it a try. I've got a Moondrop Kato which I do find that it's quite bulky and the body protrudes too much in my tiny ears.

  • Does anyone know if using a 3.5mm to USB C converter would degrade the sound quality? Or if there are USB C cables for this?

    • +1

Any USB-C dongle from a reputable brand should not degrade sound quality by any noticeable. Check if the dongle supports up to 192khz 24-bit audio, that's usually a good sign. Even 48kHz 16-bit is enough to perfectly playback most sources like Spotify. I use a Samsung dongle and it gets the IE 200 more than loud enough. Being wired gives the sound quality an automatic advantage versus Bluetooth.
