  • i know anker is good as far as powerbanks go but for someone just looking to travel for a lil bit is this cost justified? I don't know too much about powerbanks, just the flight limit.
I assume im paying for the digital display.

    • +13

      Depends on your use-case.

The 140W will allow you to charge laptop that supports USB-C PD. If you don't need to charge a laptop, then there's significantly cheaper options available.

      • +3

ooooh i should check if my work laptops can do it that means I wont need to lug around two chargers.

        • +17

          few thing to know/consider:

          1. even if your laptop is not equiped with PD charing, you can get a PD to DC adapter, it's like 3-5 dollar on Aliexpress.
          2. for a laptop (especially those power hungry ones), 24000mAh (at 3.3v) means 79.2Wh. in another word, if your laptop need 79.2watt power, this would last 1 hour (ignore conversion loss) —- means just over 1 recharge for a ultrabook ish laptop, and less than 1 recharge for a gaming laptop (much less if you use the laptop simultaneously)
          3. this thing is heavy AF. 630gram is quite heavy, this will be as heavy as a 600ml water bottle, whoever getting this powerbank, make sure you try to weight a bottle of water yourself, especially put it in your backpack / pocket and try.

@OMGJL: Thanks to you I learnt today that I can get pd charging on my laptop even without a USB c port

            • @salami: My laptop USB- C port apparently don't support PD, but I'm able to charge it mo's T times..

    • +1

You are paying for the 140W output. This makes it powerful enough to run/charge most usb-c powered laptops on the market.

If you don't need to run a high end laptop (Dell XPS 15 etc), this is very much OTT.

      • +1

I wonder if it can even full charge the XP15 once.

        • +1

According to my quick google, around 3 times? Although I am yet to find a usb-c charger that doesn't show up as "slow charging" on my XPS15.

          • +5

@hypie: This powerbank has an 86.4 Wh battery.
Assuming it has 100% discharge/charge rate, it can charge it maybe once assuming the laptop is off.
I would say it can charge it to around 60%-70% once in normal conditions.

          • +2

            @hypie:

Although I am yet to find a usb-c charger that doesn't show up as "slow charging" on my XPS15.

If I recalled correctly, this is due to Dell's limitations on third-party chargers, only allowing 65W which results in showing 'Slow Charger" warning.

            • @RichardL: My 2023 XPS 15 hasn't complained when using a 100W GaN charger. Yet…

          • +2

@hypie: Laptop batteries are measured in Wh, power banks in mAh. Times by 3.7 to get Wh figure, it’s 88.8Wh battery. But you’ll lose efficiency discharging and can’t fully discharge, but it would be almost 1 full charge of a bigger laptop battery.

            • @ATangk: Thanks! I thought that seemed a bit high. My 20,000mAh cant fully chstge my ipad pro.

  • I don't think these support 12v/3a power profile. Prob the only negative?

    • +1

      Only supports:

      USB-C 1 / USB-C 2 Output: 5V 3A / 9V 3A / 15V 3A / 20V 5A / 28V 5A (140W Max)

      • Yeah, It's not really a big issue because 12v/3a hasn't really been a thing since PD v1. But some things still rely on it.

    • +1

I don't think these support 12v/3a power profile. Prob the only negative?

It doesn't, but if you use a PPS trigger you'll be able to get anything between 3.3V - 21V at 3A.

      • I've used a USB PD Trigger to negotiate a higher profile than desired and buck converter to regulate to the voltage I wanted (not SUPER efficient, but better than nothing).
Haven't seen much info on a PPS trigger? Assuming it does something similar? Any links?

        • +1

It's similar.. you can either install this custom firmware on the popular ZY12PDN triggers (do some research into the different revisions first though), or use a larger module like this.

          • @eug: Cheers, Will have a look into them.

  • Should be called a 747

    • +1

nah thats the 150w gan charger for this

also, they called it the 737 so the future versions will be called the 737NG, and higher capacity 737MAX

      • Does the MAX sometimes accidentally think it’s charging when it should be discharging and crash/boom?

  • +5

Highly recommend the Xiaomi Zmi No.20 210W 25000mah USB PD Power Bank QB826G

We have 2 in our house and they are the dogs nuts. Should be able to find it on sale for less than this post.

Can't comment on the Anker but potentially cheaper Xiaomi with higher specs and less bulk. Just my 2W worth.

    • +1

The benefit of the Anker would be the 140W Output and the Smart Display.

      • True. 140W Vs. 100W. Guess I'm not a fan of the screen as we also have a BaseUs with a screen and its the most glitchy power bank I've ever used.

        • +2

The benefit of the ZMI would be the form factor, compared to the Anker Brick.

        • Guess I'm not a fan of the screen as we also have a BaseUs with a screen and its the most glitchy power bank I've ever used.

Not sure if you're equating a screen to being glitchy, but this power bank has a screen and is not glitchy.

    • +2

Same. I have the Zmi power bank too. There's an official teardown of this on YouTube and you can see how well built it is internally. It's also more "pocketable".

If anyone is buying this, buy the QB826G model and not the QB826 model since the G model can charge faster.

If you want to save money, can't complain for the the price of the Kogan one.

  • +1

Wow what a price, I bought mine two months ago for just over $200 from Amazon. Probs one of the best high capacity powerbanks I have used.

  • Bought this recently.

As other commenters have said this is overkill for most use cases (and mine) but I am glad to have something relatively light, compact and powerful. For the few times a year I need it when travelling I'll be glad.

Seems great so far. Happy with the purchase

  • I have this one, so fast charging it back to full battery

  • Can this be carried on a commercial aircraft?

  • +2

I want this so badly yet have no good justification for it.

    • +2

Yep. I can imagine using this if i ever left the house.

    • As of 656pm AEST 2,377 online users 6,168 guests are right behind you, we know you can do this.

  • Had to do a bit of digging but it's 630g according to their website https://au.anker.com/products/a1289

    • Not that it matters too much but it weighs 617g on my kitchen scale. That's an extra 13ml of water you can carry with you now!

      • Phew I was wondering where I was going to put my mentos

  • +2

Perfect to pair with ASUS ROG Ally

    • Runs my Ally in Manual 30W Mode no issue. But I will say that the battery is a little small and I only get about 1.5 hours of battery with it running the Ally at max. I’d love 4-5 hours.

      • +2

27000mAh is the largest you can take into a plane without special authorisation. If you want longer, which I can’t suggest for health reasons, try one of those portable power stations.

        • Yeah I have been considering one of those.

        • Why health reasons what

    • -3

Overkill, only need 65W output to get max performance.

  • oops.. here's the generic link. Was saying to wait till this one reaches Aus shores and to wait for someone to ask to borrow your powerbank… 😆

    • Can’t charge more than 60w though

  • Shame this code doesn't work with the powercore elite iii. Being eyeing that off for a while

  • Paid close to $200 while ago and neen solid.

Tho it has some device compatibility issue.

    Search anker 737 UVP

When you use it on a two way port… switch to port 2 and that disappears. That port is only a delivery port.

  • Just to double check, 2 people can charge their steam decks simultaneously at the same time?

  • This is a solid powerbank. Use mine to power my laptop when no wall socket… charges the laptop and then I use the 100w charger to charge the battery. Never need to be stuck near a wall socket ever. The battery tops up very fast and you are at least back to 80% by the end of a lunch break. Perfect for a flight as its 86Whr so can be used without restrictions.

  • For anyone who uses it to charge laptops at 100W or 140W, how much extra juice do you actually get with it and what laptop do you use?

I have tried charging laptops with high output powerbanks before and I have found the whole exercise to be a waste of time as they're so inefficient at high wattages that it's just not worth the weight of carrying an extra brick around.

    • I use it to charge a HP G7 840… pulls around 40w-50w and can fully charge the battery while in use and still have about 30% left. That's when I toodle off to find a power point to fully charge the power bank again.

So I can complete a full day out of the machine without being near a power point. Battery health on that machine is down to approximately 85%.

  • +2

    will this charge my tesla?

    • The new model just might but only in US

  • thx op. just bought one. hope they have enough stock.

it also just occurred to me, 140W type c cables are rare, are they?

    • Something like this

    • +1

it also just occurred to me, 140W type c cables are rare, are they?

They're not that rare, you can buy them on Amazon for about $20 or this for $12.99.

  • Detailed review here https://youtu.be/WIrLw1fQ3GU tldr well recommended

  • Aghhhhh I ordered one of these today from mobileciti for $165 and then a better code comes out. Nooooooooo.

  • What is best power bank that would charge my iPhone SE 2 a couple of times?
    Thx

  • Geez thought I got a deal on prime day.. this is even better!

  • If you are okay with 100w, the imut power bank on amazon is much better than this deal $$$

    • +1

Trust me it's not. I bought that one and it died after 3-4 months.

I paid full price ($230) for this one and it still going very strong. It charges much faster and also knowing how much watts it is outputting is also extremely useful (so you know if your charging cable is crap if it is charging your laptop at 30W).

  • Was sitting on it and it went OOS :(

Still, thanks for posting the deal.

  • Definitely don't need it… Definitely wanted one… Couldn't justify it. But kept seeing the stock dwindle and couldn't help hit BUY when it got down to 3 left… 🤦😱😅

  • gah why's it so hard to find Powerbanks and GaN chargers with 4-5 Type C ports instead. I don't need USB-A 😭

  • Keep in mind this power bank is very heavy for its capacity. You can get 30000mah powerbanks that are lighter than this. Unless you really need the 140w power output.

  • -1

Can this charge the Acer Nitro 5?

    • +1

How about you google your laptops year and power requirements. Nitro 5 has so many models that were released over the years as well as configurations.

  • -1

Cheaper alternative, though only 100w per port/210w total vs 140/250w total
