Sorry for an ignorant question, but would that work for the NBN connection (box)? Or do I need to get a modem instead of a router ?

    • Plug in the ASUS router to the nbn connection box.

    • Straight router is fine, assuming you're on fttc or fttp. The nbn device functions as a modem.

    • This will work fine unless you have FTTN as your NBN technology. Check with your internet provider or the NBN address checker:

Very useful - thank you! Looks like I have FTTP :-)

  • $89 with Officeworks. In Perth Amazon saying 24 August, Officeworks free shipping by 11 August. I have Prime but Amazon still haven't resumed expedited shipping for Perth since Covid (except some select local items), happily Officeworks are still functioning normally.

It’s all gone 😢 I hate those Amazon Australia deals with hardly any stock available …

  • Thank you all. I just got it from JBhifi. Cheaper too!

  • Can you change firmware on this and install network wide adblock?

    • Don’t need to change fw, use nextdns (hosted but paid) or pihole (self hosted but need raspberry pi / other mini pc). Set dns settings on router to one of those

      • Ahh okay I've heard of tomato router in past maybe something similar

  • my rbk50 works fine do i really need this? just for tv laptop phones.

    • No.

  • Asus RT-AX55 assuming is updated version of AX54 is on special for $99 in white from Amazon.

Is the rt -ax55 better than this? It’s only $99 at amazon

  • Dual-core? No thanks.

    • If used for router, better to pay $99 to get AX55 from Amazon, at least it’s a 1.5Ghz quad core (Though AX56 is much better option with doubled memory)

But if used as AiMesh node, this should be powerful enough as majority of the processing works are in the primary router anyway

Got this for my mother a few months back, it works great for the price. She is FTTP 1000/50, it gets 1000 via ethernet and around 300-500 via WiFi. Coming from a very old TP-Link Archer D7, the only downside is signal strength isn't as strong but it does reach an entire 2 storey 3BR townhouse.

  • Not great feedback on Whirlpool threads. Seems to have firmware upgrade issues. I suggest steering clear of this one and maybe trying the model up Rt-AX55 which is also currently on sale on amazon for a better deal. RRP$179 down to $99. RT-AX55 has way better reviews and feedback. Both this one and RT55 does not have Wall mount holes at the bottom so cannot be wall mounted

    • Rt-AX55? I'm only seeing this on amazon for $199

  • would i benefit from a router like this if i live in a unit with 2 rooms? parents complaining about wifi signal across rooms
