Sorry, looks like you forgot to paste any Perth details….

    • :(

My theory is WCE and Freo are so low in the AFL rankings, Jetstar (being in Melbourne) forgets about you ;)

Good prices, but flights aren't what stings when you visit Uluru.

Just as a PSA - remember you are visiting an international destination, you will be paying international destination prices for pretty much everything - tours, food, accommodation etc etc. Do your research before you jump on tickets, you can probably ozbargain your way through it but if you want an enjoyable experience make sure you do a budget before hand.

It's just a big ugly rock, people waste money on the stupidest shit.

      • Not to mention all the crime up there now. Fix that up and maybe people would consider going back.

Crime at Uluru? You must be thinking of Alice Springs, which is a 6 hour drive away…

I would visit again just to experience the night sky, screw the rock, the complete and total darkness with the sky littered with stars is truly magical to experience.

        • So just go to any remote location?

          • @dowhatuwant2: You are vastly underestimating the extent of light pollution that surrounds our cities, you would need to drive several hours to get the same degree of darkness that you experience in the proper outback.

@doobey1231: I think you are just vastly underestimating the distance im talking about when i say remote.

              • @dowhatuwant2: @dowhatuwant2 I think you are vastly misunderstanding the point if you think the intention is to just be remote.

      • Agreed, I think I would rather set fire to my money than go to Ayer's rock.

      • This is the most ignorant thing I've seen on OzB recently.

I can't tell if it's from sheer malice or lack of education, but either way you're being disrespectful and you embarass yourself. Better bring it up here before you start saying things like that in front of people IRL.

Mate it is a big rock, if you think otherwise you're the uneducated one.

          • @dowhatuwant2: Everything can be "just a thing" if you're self-righteous and oblivious enough.

It's just a basic decency to acknlowledge it has some (very special) value to others. Nobody forces you to have anything with it, just respect.

So crass you're that vocal about your stance.

            • -3

@pizzaguy: It's "most special" value to others is the money it allows them to get from idiots that waste their money to go see a big rock.

              • @dowhatuwant2: Once you recognise some heritage you may have (you don't seem to realise at the moment or don't care, fair enough) and you come across an ostentatious prick deprecating it, you may understand your current behaviour.

                Sucks to be around you.

          • +3

@dowhatuwant2: Grand Canyon is just a big hole, Mount Everest is just a big hill, Blue mountains is just a bunch of trees. Anything can be "just" anything with the right (or realistically, wrong) mindset.

            • +1

@Benjamin7711: Those examples are more impressive than a big rock you can't climb though.

    • Apart from an IGA you’re pretty much at the mercy of $10 for pies and $8.50 coffees.

    • This.

I scored a $40+ return ticket to Ayer's Rock with Jetstar last year. Intended to do it solo (with accordingly low budget) and ended up not flying when I realised the very restricted/expensive accommodation options. Losing $40 was a more economical option for me.

You sound like it's different if you go to any other tourist destination.

      • +4

Well yeah it is different, for example Hamilton Island or the Gold Coast isn't really an internationally known holiday destination, prices are still holiday prices but much tamer, where as Uluru or the town you would be holidaying in - Yulara, will rip any last dollar they can from you because you cannot go elsewhere.

I made the comment because its exceptionally steep there as opposed to other holiday destinations around Australia and people should be aware of that before buying a $100 ticket to visit.
