Are there any 8th generation and above on offer/deal?

    • +4

not at the moment but will do more offers when we have good stock

Too close to 8th gen pricing on sale, e.g.

But it was i5, not i7 as in here

And it was the T model as well - for low power consumption but also lower performance.

8th gen are great, esp if you need official Windows 11 compatibility, but this is a more capable CPU for almost all tasks.

Also, having ordered from the OP’s previous deal, I can confirm that both units I purchased came in impeccable condition.

The i5/i7 distinction is irrelevant here because 8th gen i5s have more cores than 7th gen (and older) i7s. Intel was very stubborn about adding more than 4 cores to their top end models for the longest of times, rise of ryzen eventually forced their hands.

Despite being a T model, single core performance is only about 10% slower while multicore performance is only 5% slower since it has more cores to work with. At half the energy consumption, better transcoding (for plex/jellfin users) and out of the box w11 compatibility, it's a no brainer unless you need the other things like ports/extra storage slots.

@JerraJones: Horses for courses, but given the very limited percentage of purchasers who’d be looking at it for transcoding capabilities - one of the very few usages for which the newer i5 may be superior - the fact that the older i7 is more powerful for almost all other tasks does indeed make it a no-brainer, its power consumption can also be reduced to a comparable level to the T models in BIOS, if that’s what is being sought.

@UncleRico: 5% slower for half the power bill for something that's only going to be used just for casual browsing/office work is a no-brainer, especially with record rises for electricity prices. The 8500t also comes with an m.2 slot (supports nvme).

  • Would something like this run age of empires 2 definitive edition with the best settings? I like how small the form factor is, and low price of course.

    • Still need a dGPU.

      • Right ok thanks.

My N40L psu died last week… how many HDDs can I stick inside this?

Tossing up between a ground up micro atx build, replacing the PSU, or retrofitting one of these old workstations.
