Booking.com: 10% Cashback @ Cashrewards

333

Not as good as occasional 12% but may still be of use to some, I booked a heap of work trips which made me happy.

As usual YMMV so make sure to note prices direct before booking through the link.

It says “offer ends in 3 days” which I’m assuming means Wednesday but please correct me if I’m wrong.

Cashback is ineligible on the following:

Car rentals, flights, and non-accommodation bookings
Use of any Booking.com refer-a-friend links, codes or any non-Cashrewards incentives (offers, links, newsletters, secret prices), unless stated as eligible on this site.
Travel that is not consumed
Items that are cancelled, returned, exchanged or refunded.
GST, other taxes and delivery fees.
Fraudulent transactions.
Purchases using any type of discount which lowers price advertised on the Merchant site, including but not limited to employee discounts, student discounts and price-matching.

  • ah damn, already booked my airbnb with a gift card deal

Just checked, the prices going through cashrewards were inflated vs going to booking.com directly. Ended up costing the same

    • damn, jack got us again

    • I'm glad my regular work hotel doesn't do that. Price remains the same, plus the Genius 20% discount ontop.

    • Yes, I've always found they are more expensive with cashback. I just use Agoda and get some Agoda dollars and discounts but doesn't hurt to compare.

Apparently using a VPN can get better prices too sometimes.

    • I find some are but not all, maybe less than half last time I compared.

I’ve also had an issue in the past where Booking told me the hotel was non cancelable and non refundable and upon needing to do just that due to covid, I noticed that booking direct with the hotel actually would have been refundable. Dunno why the difference but I managed to cancel it after a couple of calls to the hotel. But had to lodge the request through Booking.

    • I found the exact same thing. It worked out cheaper for me to book without the cashback

I have a trip planned to Syndey for a wedding next May. Through booking.com website the price is $1338. Through CR it is $1445, with $145 cashback. Not worth it dor $28 IMO, cashback will take a while to be received after the trip, and there’s no guarentee it will work anyway. Negging because of dodgy practices.

    • +2

This is common knowledge, I don’t think it’s worth negging the deal for though.
About 50% of my trips have been the same price so it’s still a good deal, you just need to check first as OP mentions

    • That's cashbacks in general, it's a calculated risk - maybe don't worry about them at all?

    • Totally agree, only find the Expedia one worth doing in my tests. Plus 10% feels low, I generally can find a coupon from an travel website for that amount.

      • +1

Used to be a lot better cashbacks too (like 15-18%).

I tried the VPN trick using Agoda, changed to Vietnam and it was at least $10 cheaper per night. Still annoying was showing $200 initially then jumped up $245 during the booking process, so they can G.F.

    • That's odd. My previous bookings through CR always has the same price when I browsed through Booking.com
Also the Booking app tends to have lower prices

  • +3

It is even worse when your cashback doesn't track, but you still pay more because you used cashback.

  • +2

Booking.com costs me 20% extra on average compared to finding the same places through local property management.

$2500 came down to $2000 without any negotiations or discounts on my last stay. You'll save more by getting on the phone or direct email

    • +3

Do you have to prepay and can you still cancel? And can you call up and cancel and rebook when prices go down or will they get annoyed at you?

Genius discount + 10%+ cashback is usually pretty hard to beat. Plus I book early and then check prices again every now and then, if its cheaper I cancel and rebook. My last trip my accommodation was $2.6k, I canceled and rebooked at $2.1k, then again at $1.6k

The cheapest price is usually around 2-3 weeks out from what I've seen but if it's popular you could also have missed the boat by then so most money can be saved by booking early and then canceling and rebooking if prices fall.

  • +2

Doesn't seem to stack with genius discount for me. So why would you use this?

    • +1

Weird, it stacked with the genius reward for me, it literally shows the genius reward in the purchase summary on booking.com and tracked the cash reward on the app as well

  • +2

I booked two hotels 36 hours ago for December with 6% Cashback

One hotel is now 16% more expensive
The other hotel is now 14% more expensive

Comparing post cashback, it's around 8 to 9% more expensive now.

I have in the past seen prices remain stable, however.

Unless you know what you're doing, these deals give you a fake warm fuzzy feeling.

Note also that Booking.com heavily discriminates with prices in all sorts of ways, a hotel that appeared as $600 for me (frequent user, on app) appeared as $800 for a friend (not logged on, via desktop).

  • Does anyone know if theres a difference between pay in advance and pay at property?
