Yeah, Google's image processing is pretty great! That's how they could use less-fancy lenses and sensors and still churn out incredible pictures.

Looking forward to the Pixel 8 family, and seeing what it can do on the photo-front

      • +2

He used the twitter knockout competition in 2021, and yeah, that was obviously flawed.

In December 2022, he used an Elo-style ranking system and a dedicated site. So no knockouts. It was a big improvement with far less flaws.

So we are likely to get a price beat from Officeworks (5% off)? Plus Ultimate gift card (another ~10% off). $339.15 is a decent price.

    • Have that 10% deal on gift card gone?

      • Still one day to go. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/792012
And if you have an HSBC card with everyday extras enabled, try splitting the payment to under $100 each tap at checkout (or simply buy $50 one multiple times, but more time consuming and may annoy wws staff lol). That's another 2% off.

    • +1

It's more likely to be $398 at Officeworks on the same day.

You can become a pixel in google’s information resolution!

    • +1

I see someone who is trying to be funny and become a pixel instead

Where’s the full catalogue ??? Thanks

    • Also would love the full catalogue

  • Cheap Spy phone

  • Noob question, if 6a is 1 year older than 7, why are the security updates for 7 only 3 months longer than 6a? I would assume we will get 12 months more updates.

  • Bought it for 469. Will they reimburse the difference?

    • +2

      Depends when you bought it.

    • +2

How long ago? I believe JB cover a price difference of only 14 days.

      • 24 days ago. I'll try regardless

        • +1

It's worth a shot. I got $50 back from a TV I bought when I noticed it was discounted three weeks after buying it.

  • +7

Great phone for the price, other than horrible battery life. I couldn't get a day out of mine without needing top up

    • +1

The battery life isn't great by any means however I'm easily getting more than a day with heavy usage.

  • Pixel 7 would be easily worth the extra $100.
Somebody waiting for Telstra stock may let one go by then if they are impatient.

  • +1

I have one as a side piece for when I feel like cheating on my main squeeze (iPhone 14 Pro Max). Would I be content with the Pixel as my one and only though? No chance. But isn't that like comparing a super model to a girl next door you say? Sure, but I can't be content with any Android super model. The ultimate would be the brains of an Android and the body of an iPhone.

    • I moved from a Pixel 3a to an iPhone 13 Pro and to be honest, I prefer the photos of the Pixel - especially in low light.

The iPhone is superior with video though.

      • +1

I find myself in a constant battle of Android vs iOS. I want to leave this bullshit locked down ecosystem, but I can't. I just keep running back because I feel like there's always something lacking when I use an Android phone. Is it because they feel cheap? Is it a placebo? Am I brainwashed? I don't know what it is. I do agree with you however, Pixel for photos and iPhone for videos.

  • good price

  • +3

Have one. Good phone, but battery life is so bad. Barely get a full day and it's mostly just sitting in my pocket all day.

    • Does the battery last/perform better on Pixel 7?

      Pixel 6A - 4,410mAh V Pixel 7 - 4,355mAh. Appears no real difference in the battery itself.

But how is the overall 'juice' when comparing the two phones?
      Same?

      • Looks pretty similar bro

      • Idk. Don't have the Pixel 7. But I really barely use my phone all day, maybe few hours screen time (and a few hours of Spotify, with screen off), and it drops to like 30%.

        • These days you have to resign to the fact that you'll be charging your handset once a day.

The Sony Ericsson w850i was awesome though, 7 days standby..

    • Which is why I stay away from Pixels. Unrelated but my S23 Ultra easily lasts 2 days of regular usage.
One full business day using the phone for multiple calls, bluetooth, messaging and work only brought my S23 Ultra battery down by 20%.
Loving the fact that it's also such a capable, intuitive and powerhouse of a phone with excellent battery life.

    • Doesn't sound right, you must have an app running in the background, the are plenty of ways to optimise it.
Standby times did seem better on those custom ROMs I used to play with pre pixel, but once you start using it the battery would plummet.

It's all too subjective as people used is greatly different.
Mine does seem a little bit average these days (p7). Wavelet chews it up when using it (EQ software).

      Samsung aren't any better.

  • This or Nothing Phone 1 (for A$635 from Amazon UK) ?

    • +1

The bad reviews for the phone you are asking us to compare for you didn't deter or help you in anyway?

  • Can anyone candidly indicate how photos compare to the 7a or something like the Moto Edge 40 with 50mp hardware? The camera on the 6a seems universally praised but the hardware seems cartoonishly deficient (like 12mp…what is this 2011?).

I've currently got an Oppo A74 and it has a 48mp AI camera that's taken nothing but blurred, soapy unfocused photos since day one. I'm desperate for a phone with a camera that'll just plain work, but I'm just a bit scared by the seemingly redundant hardware.

    • +1

I mean, first things first, mp count doesn't really mean jack when it comes to phones - you've got full blown cameras with say, "only" 24mp, and they'll blow these 50mp or 100+mp phone cameras out the water, purely because the sensor size/lens hardware difference is so large. In this case, the 12mp on the 6a compared to the 50 odd mp in the phones you mention, is probably not as different as you think.

Considering the universal praise the Pixels in general seem to get, I'd say it's not too bad to give it a go. It's not particularly expensive, and it probably should give you good enough results. If you find it's still not good enough, then just get the iPhone, I imagine that would probably end up being the most "trouble-free" for most people.

      • This phone or say Iphone SE 2020 or XR 64gb refurbished for like $200 - $250?

        • +1

It depends. I mentioned iPhone mostly because the ease of use in general for most people, and that anecdotally a lot of people seem to like/prefer the iPhone look, not because I think it's necessarily better.

Strictly speaking from a camera perspective, I'd probably take the Pixel, especially over the refurbs, just because Google seems to be doing a good job in the software department with regards to photos. I'm not going to be able to give anything more definitive than that (maybe someone else can, and there's some discussion above in regards to photo/video), just because I haven't really used it that much at all (I have a camera I use instead).

Of course, if you prefer iOS over Android, then you know what to do.

  • Anyone know if there will be any other deals on mobile phones in the upcoming catalogue?

  • Do pixel phones come with International warranty?

    • -3

The warranty includes Tasmania so yes

  • Any other way to save with gift cards or something that one can buy now?

  • Wheres the full catalogue?

  • Will this start at midnight tonight?

    • In theory it should.

      Ps. Why you asking twice

  • Does this phone have still overheating issues? Can someone please share this experience with this phone?

    • +1

My wife has been using it since march. No issues.
She says battery life is also fine.

    • That was the Samsung Note 7

  • +2

On sale now. Pixel 7 (128GB) is also on sale for $699

  • +2

Already $399 online. Just grabbed one!

  • Funny enough, OW already reduced the price to $397, which makes it cheaper by 2 bucks than this deal. Overall, users are spoiled for the multiple outlets availability.

    • +1

Showing up as $597.00 for me at Officeworks

      • Any gift cards that one can use with Officeworks on sale now?

      • +1

Link shows the product listing for $397 at OW but when u actually go to OW site, it shows $597. Dodgy as……

        https://www.google.com/search?q=officeworks+pixel+6a&rlz=1C1…

        • Will wake up early and see if they would give me a price beat if the price still not changes tmrw morning. If they do change the price then I will head back to jb-hifi and get a price match and stack with my new customer $10 perk (that is $387 compared to $379.05 with 5% OW price beat). Plus gift card discount.
By the way in terms of electronics, which retailer is better (if the price is the same)? JB-hifi or OW? Never bought from them before.

          • +1

@dsesaz: Just get from wherever is convenient all the same.

  • Anyone found any good case bargains for the Pixel 6a? Picking one up today. Anyone used the Tech21 Evocheck cases or the Itskins Spectrum?
Tech21 Evocheck is $59 at most retailers but Mydeal has it for $22.95
    https://www.mydeal.com.au/tech21-evocheck-phone-case-for-goo…

    • Not worth that much, just get Spigen.

  • had this phone for a while, it's great.

great camera, build quality, I like plain android experience of pixel phones

but battery life suxx, and 60hz screen is not great on the eyes

  • Bad battery and 60hz in this day and age is deal breaker for me. Good phone for a parent or grandparent.

    • People are getting it for under $400 for flagship chip and camera, can't win them all.

  • $397 at Officeworks. These are proper links (for the Charcoal and Chalk colours) which bring you to the $397 price. So save yourself the $2 back in your pocket being an Ozbargainer.

Asked JB hotline politely to give me a good deal, got offered $365 and used perks code to make $355 :)

    • +3

      FYI:
Going on this advice, I phoned up local JB and said "my friend just got this for $365 can you do it". Person was nice but said they couldn't as it was on sale, etc.
Tried it on JB website chat and worked instantly. Got a link straightaway for purchase click and collect at the same store.
      Saved $44 in 3 minutes!

      Thanks sahilb4u!

      • +1

Imma cry! Bought in store at $387 (price match OW+$10 perk) and paid at counter using multiple gift cards (really stressed me out because I feel extremely uncomfortable talking to and troubling the staff). Hope saw this earlier :( and thanks for sharing

        • +2

Can't worry about every dollar all the time, just good to get something and sort it out.

All those gift cards and signups are a lot of dicking around haha.

          • @G-rig: That’s true. Thanks. I’m feeling way much happier now😊 Almost “Bargain around and forgot what I truly want” lol

        • +2

Yeah, don't stress. Only $22 more.
$387 for a decent, brand new new phone is still a good price. You should get 2-3 years use out of it, if you choose.
Around 50c a day for something you use constantly. Good value.

Plenty of people paying $1000+ for new phones that are only marginally better. And break just as easy!

  • Screen protector recommendations?

    • I purchased these with mine and I'm really happy with both:

      Cover - https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B09S8SFX2S/ref=ppx_od_d…
      Screen Protector - https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B0B6CLRMTZ/ref=ppx_od_d…

      • I got Spigen case, a bit more expensive but hopefully worth it. Case is strong and lasts well.

FYI, Otterbox cases are good when new.
But the outer protection is rubber and if you leave it in your pocket eventually it wears/warp and goes out of shape.
So after 9-12 months you have to replace Otterbox covers and they aren't cheap.
Otterbox was also really tricky to fit to carholder unit because rubber is a bit sticky.
        I would avoid Otterbox.

  • good phone but i need dual physical SIM support

  • How much slower is this than a 7 pro? Just cracked my screen and need something to ride me until the pixel 8 or s24 plus.
Any ideas what a cracked screen pixel 7 pro sells for? Just the side, still usable no screen damage.

  • I initially suggested this for a mate and it's a very good deal; however keep in mind that the Pixel 6 line is now an older model and prices should only drop. E.G the recent Pixel 6 128GB deal for $423 which I snagged for him.
