La Marzocco Linea Mini Coffee Machine + Bonus 12 Month Coffee Subscription $6,799.20 Delivered (Was $8,499) @ La Marzocco

2050

I follow LM on Instagram and just noticed this promotion. While stocks last..

I purchased this machine 2 years ago and I use it every day. Yes it is very very expensive and no I do not use Aldi beans with my machine.

Also comes with a 12 month subscription to Single O (12 X 1KG bags I believe) which would work out to around $700 depending on which beans they let you pick.

Edit: Looks like the bundle is also on sale. The mazzer electric grinder usually goes for around $1200

    I bought 10. Thanks OP.

  • +7

Still 25% over priced from pre covid levels

    • -1

Uh, have you seen the cost of a packet of chips and petrol? Everything has gone up!

  • +8

Coffee Snobs, meet OzBargain. OzBargain, this is Coffee Snobs.

    • -3

Nah they can stay on their forum. :P

  • Everybody raves about the Micra, I get that small is the name of the game, but Mini is the proper size for home market at his price point.

    • +1

It was when the Mini cost $5k, but LM can go sit on pineapples with these price increases

  • +4

    This is silly.

  • +2

would love to know how this is 10 x better then breville dual boiler?

    • -4

Serious answer: They are handmade in italy and capable of actually producing cafe quality coffee. I owned a Breville Dual Boiler and now own one of these and the difference is night and day. These machines will outlive a breville 10 times over.

      • +21

The Linea Mini is a beautiful machine, and it's a considerable step up from the Dual Boiler in terms of build quality - but both machines are actually capable of producing café quality coffee, if you know what you're doing.

Beyond that, well maintained Dual Boilers can last 5-10 years and have an extensive and helpful community of owners. Australians also enjoy the rare benefit of having the best pricing on Dual Boilers in the entire world, given Breville is an Australian company. They sell for over A$2000-2500 in the US and are widely considered to be one of the best value machines even at that price. In Australia, we regularly have access to the Dual Boiler at $750-1000, which makes it a certified steal. On the other hand, we have to pay significantly higher prices on European machines compared to the US and Europe. This dynamic also plays out when it comes to maintenance - sure, a Linea Mini will last decades if maintained well, but maintenance and parts cost significantly more than the Dual Boiler's.

Even at a conservative $1000 price tag and a 5 year lifespan, you could benefit from 6-7 new Dual Boilers over 30-35 years before you match the price of, what will then be, a well worn, 35-year-old Linea Mini. That also doesn't account for the inevitable technological advancements that the Dual Boiler will benefit from with newer releases, or the likely introduction of entirely new and better machines from various manufacturers at even more affordable price points (it's only a matter of time before Asian coffee upstarts like Timemore and 1zpresso redefine the value paradigm for espresso machines, just like they have for grinders).

One other thing that people often forget is that the Dual Boiler heats up significantly faster than the Linea Mini, and with a little handy work, can be modded to deliver even greater performance and control than advertised (such as the reversible flow-control/slayer mod).

Even though the Linea Mini is the more beautiful machine to my eye, for all the reasons outlined above, I just couldn't go past the Dual Boiler. I think the same stands for the overwhelmingly vast majority of Australians - a Dual Boiler paired with a great grinder is all the equipment anyone could need to deliver café quality coffee at home.

Lance Hedrick makes a great case for it too.

        • +2

I've had my dual boiler since 2016, I clean it when it asks , change filter , descale etc
Hasn't skipped a beat, still get aldi beans and extract nice crema with a 20g shot

        • +1

Couldn't Breville just make a dual boiler with better components and sell it for more? >.<

        • I looked into a used LMLM a few years ago but gave up the idea soon after and bought a profitec instead, when I looked at the internals I realised it uses inexpensive components like thermostat. given its 7k price tag it does not even give you properly preinfusion and real paddle, let alone timer etc.

      • The dual boiler does produce cafe level quality.
The longevity point is true though

        • For longevity you will also need to factor in the cost of servicing which is not cheap.

          • @OzHan: Im not sure how true the 2nd yearly service is. I for sure won't be servicing my La pavoni e61 every 2 years.. maybe every 5 years. Even the place i bought my machine from mentioned only servicing it once you notice any issues with the machine, so the preventative servicing does seem a little off for me.
The place i ordered mine is also an officially licenced La pavoni service centre.

            • @maverickjohn: I know a thing or two about e61 as a Profitec owner, the rubber washers inside the various values will likely get worn out and start leaking in a couple of years (I replaced mine every couple of years myself). the calcium buildup inside the boilers can get pretty bad if you live in an area with relatively hard water and don't have proper filters installed or replace them regularly. preventative servicing can be important for people who don't want to spend time maintaining their machines. "once you notice any issues" can sometimes be a bit too late.

              • @OzHan: I have spare rubber seals for the group head which is a self maintenance job, but the water hardness issue should be something a coffee owner machine owner should know before purchasing expensive machines. The Brita filtration actually is the right amount of hardness for our machines so im not worried on that level. Hence why i mentioned 5 yearly.
I had a BDB last me 10 years without a service in all honesty.

                • @maverickjohn: Either you're lucky or don't use it hard enough. I've seen many broken BDB for parts listings in the used market.

Not all seals are as easy to replace as group head seal. the Anti-vac value inside the machine for instance, will get worn out from 2-5 years depends on how long you leave it on. Some cheap thermostats are not designed to last very long either. Just to name a few.

      • I guess you have to justify your purchase but in terms of the quality of the coffee you can produce with those two machines, there would be not much in it.
You are buying LM mainly for the brand name and superior build quality.

      • Yeah to chime in with the rest; I rock the BDB as a daily and have a 1990s modded Rancillo two-group for 'nice' weekend days. The BDB straight up does it all. Even if left stock, you can absolutely pull top-tier shots no issue. Upgrades like this deal are there for those who like the hobby, not because the minor changes make a difference. E.g. this LM has a rotary pump vs the 15Bar vibe pump of the BDB. But pre-infusion basically kills any issues from the pulsing vibe pump. Even more so if you're changing the infusion profile (available on stock) or using the Slayer Mod (attaching the hot-water valve in-line to the group head to adjust flow and pressure).

In short, I think you're coping neg's because you're wrong that the difference between the DBD isn't night and day, far, far from it.

    • I don't know the answer but there's plenty of comparisons and discussion if you search Google:
      https://www.google.com/search?q=la+marzocco+linea+mini+vs+br…

I'll just paraphrase what someone wrote and what I'd guess it's biggest strength is:

"you get absurdly consistent shots with the lmlm"

      • +1

3L boiler def helps if you need to have many back to back shots, but the question is do you really need it? If you're like me who only makes 2-4 cups a day the answer is likely no.

    • +2

The point of diminishing returns definitely exists after the Breville dual boiler. It's such a good entry into the cafe world that everything will always seem like bad value.
I started my journey on an old Krups machine proceeded to have a Gaggia, then got the bes860. Breville was already a step ahead. After going bdb 920 and SGP the step up in quality was immense. Had that for 10 years moved to an oracle and made the worst decision I ever made purchasing that. Significant downgrade from bes920 +SGP.
Got rid of the oracle and now have a e61 with a Eureka atom 65. And feel I am happy with my setup. The coffee journey is a beautiful one to explore and the e61 dual boiler plus grinder is not 4-5 times better than a dual boiler but there are just small improvements that make it worth the purchase.
Things such as long lasting build (it weighs around 30kg+) the profiling of shots with the lever are all small enough improvements to invest into. Now that I have this machine I hope it will be set up for life with frequent services.

  • -1

Lol 6.8k for a coffee machine.
You better make >1000 coffees to get some good value out of this (by then you'd have spent an additional $1,000+ on beans, milk etc.)

    • +2

Easy as that’s less than 3 a day for a year
Don’t forget the beans are included ;)

    • Username doesn't check out.

    • +2

You'd be suprised, I had a Breville dual boiler and did nearly 4000 coffees over 6 years from memory before it gave up (has a counter you can access).
Ended up replacing it with a more expensive Profitec, I'd argue the Breville made just a good a coffee (great value machine).

This La Marzocco I'd expect would last way longer.

But dont get me wrong its def not cheap, as much as I'd love one too much $$ for me :)

      • +1

I have a De'Longhi Eletta fully automatic machine and it's made over 11,000 coffees in 6 years and still going strong, so definitely couldn't justify the price of this machine!

    • -1

It makes sense if you have 2 people in the household drinking at least 1 coffee per day. My partner and I are no longer in coffee, but we are both ex baristas and this will get a lot of use. We are both highly caffeinated people and with a breville dual boiler, we have been getting to about 800 coffees per year. That’s before we include coffee consumption from friends.

    • +1

I don't think you understand the target market this sort of machine is aimed at. They won't be buying this machine because it's going to save them money by not buying coffee at the local cafe.

  • Seems like they will release a new version of Linea mini in the coming months.

  • +1

I bought mine about 4 years ago and its a beast, hasn’t skipped a beat, makes a café quality coffee absolutely incredible

  • I remember when they released this at MICE 2015, and it was $4950 AUD. Many people baulked at the cost as the GS3 AV was only $5000ish, and the Profitec Pro 700 was released at $2500.

    • Well they consistently all almost doubled in 2024

    • +1

This is why I refuse to buy one of these expensive machines. As much as I want one, it will never happen knowing what they once sold for.

  • +4

I'm actually impressed there's plenty of serious coffee drinkers here and that this thread is more about coffee discussion vs the usual "bought 10 for my bathroom" or some crap like that.

Not in a financial position to purchase this, but maybe one day.

    • +5

You haven’t showered until you’ve had a LM shower screen shower

  • -1

I still have to steam my own milk at this price? Damn

  • -2

    Thanks, bought one!

    • Whoever is downvoting, give reasons! :S

  • Biggg fan of Ona beans, and Zest.
    Rasberry Candy is da bombbb.

  • +1

    Instructions unclear. Bought 170 Aeropresses.

  • Been waiting for this thanks, time to upgrade the olde mini barista.

  • +1

Reformatory coffee for milk, rotate coffee suppliers for singles.

  • +2

I’ve got a cafe up the road that charges $5 which means nearly 4 years if I have to buy beans too. With cafe I get the walk in and chat and don’t need the outlay. Also gives him some extra cash

I only like one milk coffee a day and happy with black the rest

    • +1

Factor in tinkering and maintenance costs.
A good local coffee shop is still heaps worth it imo.
V funnel or viet coffee ftw!

  • Genuine question, what advantages could this possibly have for home use over a machine in the $1-2k range?

    • +6

Mostly longevity / build quality and the prestige of owning a design icon.

I personally think machines like Breville's Dual Boiler offer significantly better bang for buck (I've detailed why in a comment above), with little to no meaningful performance advantages - but the Linea Mini sure does look and feel nice to use!

      • I couldn't agree more with your comment above, but I'll just chime in and say… yeah, the DBD doesn't have as "nice" of a feeling group-head / portafilter motion, so I guess that might be worth the extra $6000!

    • Nothing most people would be able to discern. A Breville dual boiler is all the machine that most people need and a new one with the Breville smart grinder is 1700 from Goodguys currently.

You could probably go to an online retailer and get some e61 prosumer setup that costs between 2.5 - 4.5k.

The la marzocco is really just a want and not a need. Even in terms of longevity, people say that they have had great years with an isomac tea.

  • +7

With posts like these I guess it's important to remember that it is genuinely a deal to a very niche group of people.

I feel like even if you're an enthusiast though you'd have to be very well off to get something like this over a cheaper machine plus what, solar panels? Respectable used car? Proper massage chair? A couple human lives via malaria foundation? How much utility is there in spending thousands for marginally better coffee over a swathe of $5,000+ purchases?

  • Father in law just treated himself to a Belezza recently, under $3k and absolutely magnificent brewer of coffee. Probably a good alternative to something like this.

  • +8

Why buy a $200k Porsche when you can buy a $20k Haval?
They’re both cars, they both transport you from here to there, so why pay 10 times more for the Porsche?
    /sarcasm

This is a commercial quality machine, made for the domestic market. Quality costs money.
That said I’m very happy with my 5 year old Barista Express aha

    • +1

The Porsche will get you a model girlfriend. Do you think hot women are attracted to a man with a quality coffee machine too?

      • +5

I know they’re not attracted to a man with a 5 year old Barista Express

        • Wait don't go! I've installed the shim mod for the grinder!

      • +1

You'll get a gold digger maybe for the Porsche.
The coffee machine will get you an artist :P

    • At least a 200k Porsche will turn a few heads when you drive. this one won't. J/K.

      • +1

Pretty sure I’d turn my head if I saw someone driving a La Marzocco

  • +1

This is an incredible deal. Very tempting as I've been eyeing a Rocket the past few days.

  • +3

Personally went for a Lelit Bianca myself, but this is still a good price for the LMLM.

  • -7

This thread should be read in conjunction with threads complaining of housing unaffordability.

    • +5

Some people work their asses off to have a machine like this. I don't think it's fair for you to discourage them by referencing the housing crisis.
Good on them for getting something that they worked hard for.
Doesn't mean we don't feel for the less fortunate.
Guilt tripping people is not a nice way to help a community either

  • -1

So despite 166 upvotes, looks like only four or five of them are sold since last time I checked..

    • Still pushing for minister approval…

      • I got approval and bought in quickly.

The invoice has come in and I asked the finance minister if she wanted to withdraw from the purchase. It's a no. So now to pay for a coffee machine that has a higher market value than my car.

  • -5

I hope that the individuals who pulled the trigger on this are not the same people who complain about rising cost of living/housing.

  • +1

This is a deal! I bought one second-hand a month ago for only a little bit less, so I was distraught when I saw the title of this deal posted.

The silver lining is that I needed my Linea Mini in white, which it seems is not included in the deal.

Anyway, no regrets, absolutely love my Linea Mini. I came from a Rancilio Silvia (7+ years of use).

  • +2

So many dumb comments. There should be a lot more negging.

  • -3

Don't understand how coffee machines are so expensive.

    Over priced kettles.

    • +1

You sound like you know what you're talking about /s

      • -3

        haha definitely not.

I actually went to one of those 'how stuff works' webpages to see if I could understand how a coffee machine is worth more than most peoples first car.

Expresso machines been around for 200 years.

I am definitely not a coffee snob. More a novelty when I have time to sit and actually enjoy it.

  • +1

What sort of a grinder do you need to add to this? you cant just use good ol Breville smart grinder pro
this is for high end enthusiasts I recon, not your average every day coffee drinkers that get Aldi beans :)

    • You will have to atleast pair it with Weber EG1 or something similar.

      • LOL that grinder is the holy grail. so the at least, leaves nothing to reach for after purchasing!
I reckon the timemore that was on Kickstarter was a good starting point. If you are ok for single dosing, the Niche/ Lagom P64 or P100
For commercial, most Mazzer, Eureka, Mahlkonig would do a great job.

  • The contrast of users on OzBargain is pretty insane.

    • +2

there should be an upmarket Ozbargain section.
where they can put these deals together with their $500 savings on Teslas every few months.

    • Yeah but it's no surprise everyone loves a bargain!

  • +1

I'm all for good beans, good machine etc. but 200 people up-voting a $7000 coffee machine as a bargain is ridiculuous!

    • +2

how often does a post take $1700 off the price :)

      • When it already has a ridiculous RRP for a home coffee machine to start with!

      • +2

$1700 off the price after the machine has doubled in price since it was released isn't really a deal in my eyes

        • By that logic we should never post about supermarket discounts ever again

    • If you are in the market for a machine of this calibre it is a genuine deal.

  • +2

This or you could buy a decent coffee machine for $799 and spend the other 6k on a high end gaming PC.. queue the negs from coffee snobs.

    • -1

Why spend 6k on a gaming PC when you can can get one for under 1k…
In all honesty did you think this was a good argument?

      • Did you miss where I mentioned 'high end gaming PC'. Please show me where I can buy a high end gaming PC for under 1k and describe the specifications of this so called high end PC for this price? There is no argument here, it is simply another option that I would choose if I had the choice to spend $6,799.

        • +1

I get that. But you are arguing against a high end coffee machine. It's why I felt the response didn't make sense

  • Ozbargain or ozstingy? Deal checks out if it's ozbargain.

  • +2

back in 2018 i saw these la marzocco single group head units for $3400, times change i guess

  • That didn’t last long at all
