Damn I thought I was getting a good deal when I paid $3,149 for the body with the 20-60mm and the 50mm for $643 last month. I'll hand in my ozbargain badge.

    • me too with the Z6, found out the hard way that they're worth shit on the used market. I will only buy used camera from now on

    • Not here to brag but I'll do it anyway haha

Bought mine for $2299 with the 20-60mm lens which I traded in because I already had a Sigma 24-70mm then bought the 50mm online for $555.

There's always a good deal if you're patient.

      • where did you get it for this cheap?

  • Wow, I didn't even know lumix made an FF, and it already on sale.
I forgot how many years since the last I touch my camera stored in the cabinet.

  • I spotted a lot of green symbols near where the upvote count was in the corner of my eyes.

I felt the dopamine, I felt it, people. I felt the entirety of its considerable width occupy me. The I saw it said ‘ROLEX’ instead of something more numeric.

    Not my proudest moment.

Agreed, whilst this is def a good price. for many people how often do you get to use a camera like this. saying this as someone who has an em1ii collecting dust in the drawer.

      • that's why i purchased a Ricoh GRiiix and bring it wherever I go. the optics are fantastic, sharp corner to corner even wide open.

    • there's always the option of buying something smaller and more compact. plenty of options that are small, like Fuji X, M4/3, Ricoh GR etc.

I strictly use a Motorola flip phone for filming and my clients love it.

bro if your client's a Tiktoker they just might like the aesthetics of Motorola flip phone… recently found out that old CCD cameras are going up in value again.

  • Thanks for heaps, OP. Was gonna get an FX30 but wow, this kills the Sony.

    • Interesting take! Besides sensor size, what were the other areas that this trumped the fx30?

      • +1

Both have pros and cons. FX30 has larger native lens selection, some will prefer the body styling. The S5II has far more video specs than the FX30, 6K open gate (huge for anamorphic), DCI 4K, FF, 1 stop better DR, better lowlight, more exposure tools etc. Both even have similar rolling shutter in APSC mode and both shoot 4K 60 with 1.5x crop factor.

Honestly the only reason I'd choose the FX30 is if lens selection was the biggest priority along with things like AF, focus breathing comp etc.

        • Brilliant! Just adding one more: Panasonic really pushed this IMX410 to its maximum, lol. Comparing to A7 III it’s clear that Sony wasted a lot from this sensor.

Sorry for the essay, but it can be an interesting topic to elaborate.

If I were to conclude technically, FX30 isn’t up to its hype in normal low light shooting, yet FX3 seems to be an overkill for this.

The new a6700 and FX30 shared the same sensor, the IMX571. In fact, it’s technically just an APS-C sized sensor found on A7R IV & V, with an identical pixel size of 3.76µm AND second base ISO at 320 (~2500 in S-Log3). This design determines that the sensor works great under ideal lighting conditions. This point is important. Why? Because the art of cinematography, partly if not largely, is about the control of lighting of your scene. That opens to the topic of using Cine EI mode, which is another serious topic.

Panasonic S5 II uses the same sensor found on Sony A7 III, but Panasonic really pushed it to its limit in terms of image quality (DR) and readout speed (rolling shutter speed). Its second base ISO is at 640 (4000 in V-Log), together with its larger format you would surely expect a significantly better low light video quality than FX30.

For FX3, it’s EFFECTIVELY a 12MP sensor second base ISO rockets to 1600 (12800 in S-Log. The large gap is due to its diagonal pixel-binning as the sensor is PHYSICALLY a 48MP sensor but with a quad-Bayer colour filter array). Together this design achieves two: a) ultra low rolling shutter latency, and b) ultra high effectively photon sensitivity. Of course if you’ve gone through here you can already expect its downsides.

    • fx30 is a camera primarily built for videography where as this is a full frame camera with video functions. What functions are you comparing?

      • Only video. I’ve already got an A7R II for photography.

        • Ah okay so your photos are sorted.

except when it comes to lens selection. Sure L-Mount is better than Nikon Z and a lot better than Canon RF, but Sony FE is still by far the most comprehensive lens system for mirrorless

      • I only focus on video as I’ve already got an A7R II for photography, so lens choice isn’t that much of a problem to me. A decent zoom with one or two prime lenses will do just fine.

      • The main reason why L-Mount has more lens choices compared to the other two is because of Sigma. A number of the Panasonic lens are still up there in price along with the Nikon Z and Canon RF equivalents. Leica L lens pricing however is on another planet.

        • think on the bright side, when Leica SL depreciate enough we could pick them up for cheap and mount Sigma/Panasonic on them. And i think that's the beauty of the L-Mount alliance.

      • also comes down to how many lenses would you buy. if a kit lens a cheap fifty is all you need, either one would suffice.

        • that's right, but it would be nice to have an option lol… Take Nikon Z for instance, i wanted a nifty fifty but was forced to get the Nikon 50mm F1.8S. Sharpest lens i've over owned but it's too big and heavy (centre of gravity is horrible).

i wished there was a third party with a smaller nifty fifty, maybe at F2. I'm willing to even trade 10% of the sharpness to have this option.

  • I want this so bad, but I've got a kitted out GH6 I bought ~1.5 years ago and don't think I can justify it to the Mrs. I want to try the FF glory!

  • How would this be for ethusiast car photography? Is this overkill?

    • you could use any camera for enthusiast car photography, literally any.

there's a popular tiktok guy i follow, he shoots with a Sony APSC and a 40mm equivalent lens. Lenses matter more imo, more than the camera. that + framing + editing.
