  • can i just buy gift cards for the min spend

    • i load up amazon cards

    • If you have Zip, pay bills. Then use this card to pay off your Zip account

      • When you say bills, do you mean water/strata/electricty? Is there any additional fees for Zip payment to those guys?

      • +1

Anyone tried paying the ATO with Zip?

        • I've been paying ATO via Zip BPay.

Very painful to deal with during the application process. I'd recommend passing on it unless you enjoy getting frustrated.

    • What issues did you have, I thought they were one of the best to deal with.

      • ANZ are notorious for rejecting people instead of asking for clarification when providing documents, their application process is also notoriously bad and painful to go through..

I still churn their cards - but got to say - always the worst experience with them. Safest approach I've found is uploading documents, and then calling them and going through the documents over the phone to prompt them into asking questions and clarification.

        • I had the opposite experience with ANZ. Been getting 2 CCs each year with ANZ (the Rewards and Qantas cards) since last 5 years or so. Approved always 2-3 days later without any further phone calls and such.

Only once that they called me and asked about extra amount in one of my payslips - it was due to bonus. Got approved immediate after that.

      • +1

Also, I think you're using the 'associated' incorrectly. You don't work for ANZ, and your website isn't in OPs post.

You're either trying to advertise your website (Which is abuse of functionality) or you're not understanding the point of the associated flag.

        • I think I’m not understanding the point of the associated. It pops up with I am associated with and then obviously my website which I am associated so I thought I have to select it. Other associations also pop up to choose from such as ANZ and Qantas. Obviously either doing it wrong or not understanding. Might have to re read or bring it up with Mods. Thanks for pointing it out.

  • Also new to this credit card thing - Does signing up for multiple credit cards for points and cancelling before the next 12m annual fee affect your credit score at all?

    • +1

yes, goes down 20, then back up 20 when u close it. long term it goes up higher than it goes down. I have 825 score and churn 6 cards a year for the last 10 years

      • Can I ask what you do so much churning for? What do you spend the points on?

Flights seem to be almost impossible to get unless you’re gold or platinum status. Though it’s been a few years since I looked.

        • +2

Points are for flying only and flying business only except in places like cross USA where economy is $$$$. Last year i churned 600k points. About to fly europe SYD - BKK, BKK - ROME, ROME - BKK and just flew BKK - SIN, SIN - MEL, MEL - SYD on points in business.

The trick to finding flights is to firstly use multi city booking so you can see the entire month of flights instead of daily and also consider flying out of less popular cities such as Manila or cities with more flights such as Singapore. I am gold but i can still find flights on my partners account and shes bronze.

I think it really sucks they dont allow people to use their points on any flight at any time but well Qantas dont have the best rep but for me it works.

    • I find over time it will go up if you don’t churn more that 1 card a month. I churn 6 to 10 cards a year and have a credit score of 909.

  • I know the stock could actually close my Commonwealth Bank credit card on the app which was awesome.

Does NAB allow? Makes it easier than chatting to someone and giving a fake reason 🤣

    • I think they all allow cancellation on app / online.

  • Does being a secondary card holder on an ANZ card make you ineligible?

    • No, because you’re not a card holder.

  • +11

I have this card and I must stress in no uncertain terms that ANZ have the worst banking customer service I’ve ever had.

Sheer and utter systemic failures repeatedly occurring. Simply dreadful.

    • +5

Agree. Anything you want is so difficult. Just to set up a debit you have to call to get a form and then fill it out and email it back. Antiquated systems. Overseas assessment team that does not understand our salary structures so anything out of the ordinary you just get stuck in limbo.

      • +2

Exactly my experience. Had to eventually get on the phone to the offshore team and explain how to read a payslip, even though the YTD figure was already way over the minimum requirement for the card.

    • +2

Their falcon fraud protection system is rubbish. Tried to buy the 10% Coles Amazon gift card deal the other week and it got frozen, but they didn't notify me at all.

Only realised when I couldn't get lunch that day. Spent over 2hrs on the phone trying to unblock it.

      • +2

I did an international purchase. No warning about my card being locked. Four contacts attempts to get it resolved. Four hours on the phone. Three times they said it was fixed. Three times they were wrong and did nothing

Those (profanity) at ANZ can rot in hell.

  • What can you do with 110,000 points?

    • +3

      Fly return to New York

    • One person one way to LA/SFO/YVR in business class (108,400).

      • +1

PLUS taxes that are often as expensive as the economy flight. In which case the points effectively provided a business class upgrade, not the entire business class fare.

        • +3

In this case do you think it’s worth $325 to upgrade to business for that many hours…. I think yes!

          • @TonyBaloney: Still misleading to not mention the often exorbitant taxes.

You are also forgetting the opportunity cost of using those points, which can be sold for about 1c each. So add $1100 to that equation and it starts to become a little more interesting.

            • +2

@endolphin: Taxes are $175 SYD to YVR (via NAN) and $264 from LAX to SYD.

You forgot to mention selling points is completely against the T&Cs of QFF and you can have your account shut down for buying or selling points. Not to mention the scammer risk.

          • +1

@TonyBaloney: if travelling alone i would absolutely pay that. great deal really

  • If I’ve done the NAB FF this year, will that effect this promotion ?

    • +1

No, other than any effect it had on your credit score.

    • Not at all

      • As in will they honour FF points ? And provide the bonus points ?

        • They will honour FF points.

You are not eligible for this offer if you currently hold or have held an ANZ Frequent Flyer credit card in the last 12 months.

As long as you haven't had ANZ FF credit card in last 12 months.

        • +1

What NAB promo got to do with ANZ promo? Nothing!!!

You got the points from NAB? Good then go to apply for different promo from different bank - provide you can proof to them you have the right income and what's not.

  • Do you guys cancel your current credit card before applying for a new one?

    • +1

No. What if you do not get this one? It just depends if your income can cover the old one and this one. When I applied a few months (for my husband) he had 2 X AMEX, Westpac Black, and had just canceled NAB Signature.

      • +1

No big deal if I don't get this one. I just like to hold for about 11 to maximise the perceived value of having a fee.
Thanks for getting back to me.

    • I keep one with a small $3k limit with a card that is free from my bank due to my home loan, that way I always have a credit card. Then churn through all the other banks for bonus points, cancelling one before applying for the next.

    • +1

A big part of their decision is your annual income vs yearly expenses and current credit card limit. They would have a magic formula in deciding how much you're able to pay and how much risk they want to take, giving you a card.

  • Does signing up for a new card, waiting a few months and leaving have any effect on your credit rating?

    • Probably; my score went down a little bit but it’s still high overall compared to the average

    • yes

    • +1

Yes it does, but it might not go down and might increase if you pay it off on time. I apply for a credit card, meet the minimum spend and cancel every second month and have a credit score of 909 which slowly increases every 6 months or so.

  • +1

Be careful.. anz are changing their spending terms and conditions. It seems things like purchasing gift cards may no longer count towards limits and contribute towards cash advance fees? Im unsure if i interpreted it correctly, but they sent me that in the mail on my final closed statement.

    • Have you experienced that? Bought gc and charge for cash advance fees?

      • No, but i received paperwork from anz saying they were changing their t's and c's just yesterday. It wont apply to me because i closed my anz black credit card (regrettably.. since i have not been able to service another credit card with another bank).

  • +2

Terrible application process completed by incapable offshore team with no guarantee of approval even if you’re well within the requirements. Check previous deals for full details.

    • +1

So you neg the deal because of your own difficulty?

      • +5

Just here to say that I've been on ozbargain for 10 years and have only just realised that the red negative sign to the left of a comment means that the user negged the deal lol.

      • +17

If that isn’t a reason to neg a deal then what is? Simply trying to save you some frustrations by providing my experience, what’s your point?

      • +1

Pretty certain you can neg a deal if you have issues with the retailer. And anyone who hasn't got their application approved in the first 1 business day will find ANZ customer service to be close to non-existent or no one talks to each other so you often have to repeat yourself or re-send the same document, or call in multiple times.

        • Yup exactly, I had to get the Australian Financial Complaints Authority involved for them to finally dismiss my application and calling me with the same questions non stop. Non existent support and they turn you away at the branch. It’s basically like applying for a CC with an offshore bank if that was a thing.

    • I been CBA customer for decades and ANZ customer for year, however I found their offshore team isn't that bad its just their process and online banking isn't the best.

    • +1

I think the worst application process for me out of the banks I've been with (around 10). Had to go show my ID at a branch ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Also, had someone transferring some money out of their ANZ account into my Macquarie one and they wouldn't let them, saying that my Macquarie one was marked as fraudulent by their Falcon system. I use it for my home loan and never had a single issue transferring to anyone and everyone, so pretty sure it's a muck-up on their side.

  • -6

    Anz suck

  • +1

Why have all the cc deals become worse recently?

    • +1

Because more people are using them.

    • +1

Maybe the banks are raking in enough money as is, to bother with this petty stuff?
      Record profits across the board

  • Can anyone see how long this deal is running for?

I only just started on a different card (Virgin Money) so it's going to be a while…

  • +2

Mediocre offer. They were offering 110K points + $255 back on the annual fee up until recently.

    • +2

In the past 6+ months the vast majority of banks have only been offering that kind of bonus if you hold for more than 12 months. Hopefully the offers get more compelling and competitive again moving forward as they've been ordinary of late.

      • Doubt it, banks are getting stingy

    • yeah like 80k first year and 30k 2nd year points

  • For those churning, when do you cancel credit card after receiving the points and all the bonuses. Does cancelling right after affect credit score?

    • +4

Straight after receiving the bonuses and paying off the card. No issues re credit, have a home loan and a car loan. I've been doing this for around 7-8 years and I'm around 30 years old, hasn't seemed to negatively affect me in anyway.

      • +4

You don't need to pay off a credit card before cancelling it. You can cancel it at any time, then they will send the monthly statement and you'll still get the interest free period (or minimum payment as an option)

  • Does ANZ wave cc fees for ANZ home loan holders? Was with NAB and they did but have recently refinanced to ANZ.

    • +1

I think this was called the BreakFree package previously but they've discontinued it

    • +1

No ANZ don't do it anymore since there is no yearly paid packages.

    • Don't worry, NAB won't do it anymore either.

  • Anyone know if you can apply if you're on a bridging partner visa?

    • Tried. Nope

      • Doh! Howcome?

        • You need a visa with an actual end date for them to assess how long you have left on the visa.
I think NAB and Qantas Premier applications are less stringent on this.

  • +10

I agree, offshore approval team is shocking.
Neg for that and also NAB is a better deal at the moment.

    • Which country is offshore team from? 😅

      • India, they're at most, if not all, of the big 4 now and they've been very painful to deal/work with (I work at one of the big 4).

  • I can’t travel, so how much is 110,000 points worth in gift cards?

Edit: Nevermind, I worked it out. Not a great return.

  • I signed up for this card a month ago with the ANZ reward points offer (~$800 in gift cards)… Oh well!

    • +2

ANZ Rewards and ANZ FF are 2 different cards and you can get sign on bonus for both simultaneously.

as long as you haven't had ANZ FF in last 12 months.

      • Don't try this with St George… don't ask me how I know :'(

  • How long does it usually take to receive your points after meeting the spend requirement?

    • +1

Mine showed up in the next month with the points form actual dollar spend.

  • Maybe the approval process has changed since I signed up but when I did it in February this year, I just signed up online and followed up with a phone call and was approved on the same day. Card arrived 4 days later.

  • +2

ANZ has the worst customer experience out of big 4. The app is so terrible it's unbelievable

  • Deals are getting skinnier all round while in this high interest rate environment. Good deal nonetheless.

I'm still on my 110,000 Qantas FF Black card with $255 cashback (-$425 annual fees) and looking to churn for another one but there's probably just a handful others (all of which i would not be eligible for due to the 12-month period! bummer)

  • -1

    Earn $100 by spending $425.

    Am I missing something?
