ATOTO A6 PF 7IN 2DIN Car Stereo 32GB Wireless Android Auto/CarPlay $204.84 ($200.02 with eBay Plus) Delivered @ aotuleshop eBay

Thought I'd share this as I was looking at getting a double din for my new (old) car as I really want a reverse cam and Carplay (you know, the most important things to have in a car.)

I've had the a6 before and it was a great little thing. Plenty of cables to install on different iso connectors etc. Only issue was the brightness was a bit too much at night (though easily solved by having the screen turn off after a set amount of seconds).

Note - this is a double din unit, so ensure you can fit it in your car first.

  • F7 WE model seems to have good feedback being Linux based rather than Android OS.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14145880/redir

Wonder if it's back at $159 with the same code on ebay.

    • $195 from what I can see.

Linux is reliable, but less flexible when it comes to potential apps you might be able to add (not that 99% of people would use them). The F7 also has an SD slot.

Both have their good and bad points, both a good budget choice.

    • Linux based rather than Android OS

Yes we know that but what are the advantages a part the less compatibility with the app store?
Will it be 100% compatible with Google Maps?

  • +1

Great price. Paid $330 back in February and I'm very happy with it

    • Did you notice any lag?

  • +4

This one only has 2GB ram ( i personally would not recommend you buying a head unit with less than 3GB RAM ).

  • i would not buy this, I bought a similar one a few years back when i first got my Learners for my car, was 2gb aswell its very slow and laggy near to the point of beening unseable because once u turn car on the android OS pretty much uses most of that 2gb ram, then if u wanna open anything else like spotify, carplay, maps it is very laggy to the point where most of time apps will just stop responding and crash.

i have since bought 2 4gb models for my holden and focus and they run so smooth, i would look for 4gb at the lowest if you are not gonna fork out and buy a brand name one as they have higher ram, where these cheap ones really do not unless u pay little more

    • +1

can you link the one you got?

  • Had an Atoto A6 Pro in a previous car. These are a high quality unit, AA (and I'm sure CP) worked well.

Unlike most other Chinadroids, they optimise the OS for the automotive environment.

And my experience was 2Gb/32Gb worked seamlessly. Of course YMMV.

  • I’ve got the S8, very happy with it. Android units have come a long way.

    • Are they still slow to boot up these days? Like when you want to use the reverse camera immediately after you turn on the engine

  • the brightness was a bit too much at night

I've got a Daisata that dims when the headlights turn on, these don't have that feature in the settings?

  • +1

Just tried to visit Dasaita's website and NordVPN's threat protection feature blocked it saying the site is embedded with malicious code. Might give their products a pass.

  • I have the S8 and it's amazing

  • +1

S8 what the hell is even that

Joying is another brand that seems to review really well.. they also have some very big screen models with an 11.6" and a 13.3" single din version.

It's interesting how these android headunits can read CANBUS, so for most vehicles all the vehicle settings are still able to be controlled from these headunits.

  • If you had a choice, would you purchase this over an in-built system? I'm conscious of all the cords but it's an old 4x4 - 2010 so wondering what's more useful.

    • +2

What do you mean by in-built system? this headunit is designed to fit into the dash.

  • +8

As someone who has purchased and installed lots of these(not this specific one but they are all essentially the same with different external looks to suit different cars etc). I strongly advise against buying a 2gb ram model. I cannot speak for android auto but carplay stutters quite badly with only 2gb of ram, look for 4gb minimum, this headunit will become frustrating to use in 6 months time I am entirely confident in that.

Unless you’re confident you can actually install this yourself (without damaging your car), then don’t bother, as just about no installer will touch non mainstream brand head units. Don’t believe me, then call around before buying it.

    • You should read the forums' rules before giving the negative vote.

      • +2

I mean, technically they're seeing it as an 'issue with the product' as they believe installers won't install it for someone (no proof provided, but ok…)

For someone competent to install themselves, then there is no issue.

        • +1

It's the industry standard not to accept outside or non-warrantable parts as Karens would buy second hand and whinge about deck issues. Simply put, installers generally use bigger brands, but the DYI market is huge. I'd say 80% of my male mates could easily install (or have installed) a double din deck themselves. You can also buy wiring harness from Super or Autobahn, which these are aimed at DYI installers (makes the job extremely easy).

          • @Froot Loops:

You can also buy wiring harness from Super or Autobahn

I know some of these most popular aftermarket manufacturers provide much more technical information (that I didn't see on Alpine) also spare wiring harnesses for most installations.
A part that, I can't say anything about the quality.

        • To clarify, I recently encountered the above time consuming dilemma in Sydney. If it’s an old car / b0mb it may be worth the risk of installing, but if not then 🤷‍♂️. Many installers describe non mainstream units as difficult to install. Ask them.

  • I have the 2018 A6 vs and its till running strong

  • Need the 4GB unit, note: that in NSW anyway P-Platers can not use Apple CarPlay, Android Auto or even any Phone feature such as BlueTooth, so these android units are great, as you can install Google Maps with offline maps (auto syncs\updates at home via the WiFi, and apps like Spotify with downloaded\synced songs (requires premium).
Def' you Tube how to install first as the install process varies from car to car, I did one myself and did a Kenwood pro install in the other.
Let's just say the Android unit, absolutely craps over the Kenwood in almost every aspect.
Kenwood doesn't even have a stand-by mode, buggy software and lags compared to the Android!!

    • in NSW anyway P-Platers can not use Apple CarPlay, Android Auto or even any Phone feature such as BlueTooth, so these android units are great, as you can install Google Maps with offline maps (auto syncs\updates at home via the WiFi, and apps like Spotify

Just to be clear, are you saying the P-Plater rules specifically prohibit Google Maps running via Android Auto, but are OK with Google Maps running via aftermarket Android Headunit ?

      WTF 😂

      • Android head units, use android OS, they may support Android auto, but when you are using the unit without a phone you are not using Android Auto.
This is just like a car that has an Android OS and maps built-in.

Law and enforcement in NSW, is an absolute joke. The Law specifically states that P-Platers (1-st) 3 years are prohibited form using any feature of a mobile phone including BlueTooth.
And yes, Police validated that this (school talks), that Includes Android Auto and Car Play as they use a feature of a Phone. My daughter knows of at-least three incidents of friends being fined. They even warn the students they can be fined if passengers connect. (I personally don't know the law well enough if this is garbage).

Personally feel it's a lot safer to use CarPlay\Android Auto than a Navman or not having any navigation.

  • I'm looking around to buy one of these units and just this morning Amazon sent this one to my E-mail.
Maybe I'm asking a stupid question but how does this compare to for example Alpine units?

  • -1

Only issue was the brightness was a bit too much at night

This is basically a show-stopper - don't buy this ! It's very difficult to see effectively during night-driving with a bright light inside your own vehicle.

    • I can adjust the brightness on mine, also switches into dark-mode at night.
I can also turn the screen off entirely.

      • +2

bro doesnt know how to adjust brightness

    • +1

To clarify, the brightness can be adjusted, and goes down with the headlights if the signal wire is connected, however I still found it too bright in my experience, even with all the adjustments I made.

Turning off the screen after 20 seconds of not touching it was easy to do though and negated the problem for me.

      • Fair call, I actually do the same with my Kenwood, I like the interior dark.
Don't know which Android version it was introduced however my Android Unit (not the Kenwood) now has a Day\Night mode. It was after a firmware update. Day white and bright background, at night everything is black and no bright colours lights.

  • Here's an example of the harness and patch leads you will probably need when installing these double din units. My Kenwood DMX8020S needed these to function correctly. I installed the unit myself and it does require patience and YouTubing if it's your first time. If you don't enjoy tinkering it would be better to get someone experienced to do it. https://imgur.com/a/cLezRju
