Good price, but caution. A bit of research shows part number KICA0WH is discontinued and replaced by 5KSMICM, which is a far better built product. This old one has a lot of negative feedback for build quality.

Old version (this one) has a lot of reports of leaking blue liquid (the coolant that is frozen inside).

Not sure if the new version suffers from the same issue, but buyer beware! (I did a quick scan of the reviews on KitchenAid website, and it seems most of the 1-star complaints for the new version are about the dasher being plastic and cracking - didn't see any mentions of blue leaks!)

      • Yep, that'd be good old coolant..Bit scary actually

Good thing that Costco's warranty is so good i guess?

  • other retailers selling for well above $150.

    Or $69

  • In general ice cream makers are a great idea. We have a cuisinart one… so easy to use and tastes so much better than store bought

    • Do you find due to its bulkiness, it takes up a lot of freezer space?

      • +2

Our one only makes 1.5L of ice cream in a removable bowl, which we then transfer to a spare 2L Peters tub. So it takes up as much room as any ol ice cream container except it tastes better and no additives.

The machine itself is quite bulky and just sits on a shelf in the pantry when not in use.

        • Do you have a home made ice cream recipe you don't mind sharing?

This is the booklet that came with our machine…if you look on page 6, we've made the 'simple vanilla' and 'simple chocolate' ones so far and they're both absolute winners. We haven't had it long enough to try the others yet but we are excited to
