  • is 50L allowed as a carry on luggage?

      Description for product,
      Dimensions
      33 x 60 x 33 cm

Go to Qantas website : https://www.qantas.com/au/en/travel-info/baggage/carry-on-ba…
      they mention allowance of: 56cm + 36cm + 23cm

which is smaller than this duffle.
But if your bag is not full, you can "compress it" to that size at the check point?
      just my opinion though.

typically 40-45L is the limit. If you leave some empty room you'll be able to squeeze it in.

More likely you'll run into the 7kg weight limit these days though IMO

    • yes, as long as you can fold it up and shove it in there size thingy, it can go on. since it is soft sided, you can compress down and move it around to make it fit.

  • Have the 90l which has been taken on a couple of overseas trips over the last couple of years and has worn well.

  • How do these compare (in terms of quality of the outer liner) to the North Face duffels, I really need a larger one exaclty the size of this deal, even on sale Northface are $239…. seems like allot for an occasional use bag….$89 seems like a great deal, but I'm worried about the quality.

Got one of these and I really like it, quite tough

Ditto. I bought 2 to travel around Africa in 2014, still going strong.

    • I was going to ask the same question. TNF does seem to be the default expedition duffels and mine has lasted over a decade of fairly regular usage (airport luggage, couple of Nepal treks). Same with my Ortlieb bag. Both are fantastic quality.

So wondering how well made these ones are.

    • Damn, I wondered this too. I bought a 50L yellow NF during a previous sale. All I know about Mountain Designs is they sell quite expensive pants (from one random marketplace rabbithole episode). Random question but why did you need a 70L? Wondering if I should have a backup 70L too..

  • How waterproof are they. Was looking at the Patagonia black hole

    • +1

water repellent from rain. dont scuba dive with it please.
i have the north face version.
honestly they are all pretty much the same. just buy the cheaper one, unless you really just want to show that you overpaid, lol.

      • I heard bad things about the first generation Patagonia bags, unreliable ultrasonic welding.

I'd assume they've sorted it out by now, but I'd still read up on it before buying one.

For the same money, I'd personally stick with the TNF.

  • I have the 90L

Wish I bought the bigger one.

  • i wonder how this compare to this https://www.cooeecanvas.com.au/products/kapookabag?

    • +1

i would say that the kapokabag is more durable but not as water resistant as this bag.

  • Thanks heaps. Great for the beach and travels.
    Ordered 50 L.

Already have 70 Litres but its a bit too big

      that's what she said.

  • Check to see if code WELCOME20 works with orders > $50

It did for me 6 months ago - gave $20 off the price. The 90L was $69 before discount when I made that purchase 6 momths ago.

    • +3

WELCOME20 didn't work for me (new account as well), but WELCOME10 did - $10 off

      • +1

Thanks, old account with 1 purchase but WELCOME10 worked for me, thanks!

Got the 50L for half price compared to their apparent RRP. Shame about the previous post above from 2019 where all sizes were available for $49! 😵 Definitely @WasBargain!

fyi Decathlon Forclaz 500 Voyage Extend 40-60L $119 is rated #2 most versatile by Wirecutter
    https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-duffle-bags/
    https://decathlon.com.au/products/voyage-extend-hiking-trave…

in general, best duffel bags seem to include Patagonia Black Hole, Osprey Transporter, Yeti Panga

    • NYTimes though.. 😅

  • Anyone know why they design the mesh pocket that is sewed into the lid flap of the bag to open at the bottom?

My north face variant has the same design. You lift the lid to grab something out of the mesh pocket and it all falls out into the bag.

BTW, my north face one which I purchased in Nepal has been great. These look exactly the same. Its seen some hard times and still going strong. I use the compression straps to tie it to the rack on the back of my dirt bike. Works a treat as an overnight bag.
