  • Holy fk this is cheap

Not really, was this price roughly a year ago too. 5600 (non-x) which is maybe 1% slower was also around 160. Still no reason to get this over the 5600 which is always sub 200.

You make a very valid point. ^^ for anyone that are deciding between 5600 vs 5600x. :)

Regardless of any historic unavailable pricing, this is the best value it’s been recently. Good find OP!

Yup, plus the 5700X exists for about $40 more.

picked up this on gumtree used for $120, absolutely a massive upgrade over my 1600X, great pair with an RX 6700 10GB, would recommend (but maybe the non X if its much cheaper)

    • oh wow that's a great deal, I only managed a 3600 for $70

  • Got a new non x start of the year for about $175 new … I’d recommend going with that ( I have the X in my main rig) … no discernible difference between them when gaming.

  • Get a 5600 when on sale. It can be curve optimised to run at 4.65 easily. Not much difference.

  • Good deal for a new rig considering you get a air cooler with it.

I was just thinking that this is only a good idea for people that want to upgrade the CPU in their old AM4 rig. If building a new rig it would be better to go for an AM5 platform.

I think if you're not just gaming, the 5700X for ~$50 more (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/266390030721?epid=11053254810 with same coupon) is a better deal.

  • Not a great deal imo. If you're just gaming, the 5600 has been historically around 150 on sale (I recently got it from comp alliance for 145 due to shopback + Westpac eBay promo), and performs the same once you tweak settings. If you're not just gaming and care about cores/threads, get a 5700x for ~50 more. All this is also moot if you don't have a system to drop this into. AM4 is dead if you don't already have a board and ran for it.

    • Which store has stock?

      • There's not currently any great deal on the 5600, but I don't think the 5600X is great for this price, given how low the 5600 has been previously, and the prices the 5700x is available for now (not that I think that it's price right now is that good either)

The 5600 is sold out everywhere on ebay (listings with reasonable price) :-(

  • If you are thinking of doing any gaming be careful with this wraith cooler. In some setups that aren't airflow optimised ,hot air can pool around your CPU

  • When I went from this wraith cool to an elevated noctua cooler , I cut 20c from my motherboard and CPU temps
