  • Thanks OP. This should make a good travel dock for the Steam Deck

  • Just confirming - I can plug my S7 into this and show it on PC Screen or TV - will it take a keyboard aswell ?

    • +1

Though i dont have this specific hub. Going to say. Yes and yes.

    • “To achieve 4K @ 60Hz, source device must support DisplayPort 1.4”

  • +1

Anyone used this with a Chromecast to play movies from usb?

    • +3

I have the ugreen usb-c hub similar to this with Ethernet which works fine with Chromecast with google. Ethernet, usb drive & usb mouse(just for fun) works.

Can't say about this hub though, but I presume it should be fine.

  • I'm still hazy on the benefits of the 100W PD port. Adapters like this only draw whatever power they can get from the charger ie power brick they're plugged into, so why bother when you can just plug into the power brick directly?

    • +11

May only have one port on device.

    • +3

Saves a port. Especially useful if you only have 1 USB-C port.

      • -2

So you plug the main cable into a charger, and then use it to charge multiple devices? So all ports receive power? I have this Wavlink hub and to make the PD work, customer support told me I need to plug the main cable into your device, and use a USB-C cable to plug the PD port into the wall charger.

That said, there was some shaky translatio - could someone clarify what this might mean?

"1. the dock working status need power to supply, so your basesus pd charger need to plug the type c pd charging of dock to maintain the working normally,
and the usb 3.0 port could be charging your phone/PLUG others usb 3.0 devcies, other ports like hmdi, sd could be work togther(note: max up to 100W chager could be better)
according to your questions, Use it according to your own situation
        2. usb c pd of wavlink is for supply power to dock, and using as hub, you could plug the usb c port of power adapter to wavlink usb c pd port, and you could charging the phone through usb 3.0 port (slow charging)
Because part of the voltage is supplied to your laptop, a small part of the voltage will be distributed to other downstream equipment.(Like your phone)
If you have other questions, please contact us.
        Kind regards
        Owen "

Edit: I'm aware the product page shows one setup, but I just don't understand the benefit given you could plug the laptop in their picture directly into the wall charger. Do they mean the other USB ports still work for data and/or power supply to other USB ports?

And I assume that if it's not plugged into the wall charger, then there's no power delivery to the ports, or just whatever the laptop's USB-C port can output (certainly not 100W!)?

          • Charger goes into PD port on hub
          • hub connects to device via attached cable
          • some power is consumed by the hub(see product listing)
          • @ihfree: Understood. So the benefit is that I can do data transfers while also charging my laptop. Does it then mean that A device plugged into the vacant USB-C can receive charging as well? I assume whatever power is leftover after the hub and laptop have had their fill?

            • @y2k: The benefit is that you only have to plug one cable in to your laptop. It's an easy set and forget, no plugging and unplugging heaps of stuff all the time.

        • +3

The hub will syphon some power off that's being provided though the power passthrough port to run the chip(s) in the hub that will provide the additional functionality. Without it they may not actually work - which is what happens with the ugreen ones I have, but I'm also powering devices with a single type c port so I want the video out and usb and ethernet ports - either phone, tablet or steam deck for video out, kb / mouse and ethernet.

If your specific case you'd want the power passthrough as the ssd could take 5+ watts, and vanilla usb 3.0 and type c ports can supply 4.5w each, the displayport to hdmi converter chip (all hdmi ports on a type c hub are being converted from dp) will chew some power as will the sd/micro sd when in use. Depending how it's wired up the hub may not be able to accept power from the upstream port (your laptop) and relies on the power being provided to the power passthrough port.

My interpretation from what is being advertised ideally they want you to use a 100w charger which will draw up to 100w from the wall, reserve up to 17w for the hub's components and provide a max 83w of charging upstream to your connected device (laptop, phone, tablet, etc). That's at a maximum though, if your laptop needs 45w and you have a 65w charger then it'll probably negotiate something like 65w and reserve 20w for itself. If on the other hand you have a 65w charger and your laptop needs 65w it'll probably negotiate 50w with the laptop and reserve 15w for its own use (which will trigger a slow charger warning in your operating system).

@Elusivity: Thanks! Very helpful. Though getting downvotes for asking a question that I thought might be helpful to others - oof!

  • Can anyone recommend a power supply and cable for this? Do you need the full 100w?

    • Normally your laptop power supply(usb c) which is higher than 65w should work fine. You don't need full 100w, but again depends on what is plugged into the hub and how much laptop needs.

I am using 65w lenovo power adapter which came with laptop with ugreen usb c hub. I have lan, unifying dongle, hdmi connected to the hub mostly. Sometimes laptop says slow charging, when I have external hdd connected to it.

This is one of the only docks with Ethernet, HDMI, plus an extra USB-C port (most only have one power passthrough port).

I've bought 2 of them and they work well, don't get too hot most of the time and the ones you usually want (HDMI and USB-C passthrough) are both on the same side which is a good design.

I will admit that the one I got for someone else had a problem detecting their monitor, but it worked fine with my laptop and monitor, so I just swapped them and everything works now - no idea why, but it's worth noting.

  • Is this good for switching between a main pc and laptop?

    • you might be looking for a kvm rather than a dock

  • +3

The only thing i dislike about these docks, is the cable is so short.

    • +2

This! Why can't they just make another USB-C port for the connection and allow us to use our own lengthy C to C cables there

    • +1

You could always use something like this to extend it https://www.amazon.com.au/Extension-Fasgear-Extender-Compati… (first link after searching, do some reasrching and there's probably better value out there)

    • Might be worth buying a proper dock with a detachable cable rather than a hub.

  • +1

this one for me died within 4 months of use WFH

    do not recommend

  • Does anyone know if the network port on this works at 1000mbps under Linux? So many of these USB-C hubs only run at 100mbps under linux for some reason.

  • +1

I just bought the ugreen 5-in-1 usb-c hub with 4k hdmi few hours ago. Is this any better?

    • If it's the one for 22.49 now, not ethernet and 4k 30hz plus usb 2.0 ports and not usb c port. If it's the $39.99 no ethernet and extra usb 3.0 vs usb c. Either way you should cancel and get this one.

  • Any recommendations for a dock for a laptop with a dumb usb-c port or usb-a port?

  • +2

Has anyone tried this with a macbook air m2? A few of the usb multiport solutions I've come across have mixed reviews and screen glitches.

  • Not urgently need it so will wait for the lowest price again

    • I was thinking the same thing…

      The ozbargain way

      • This is the way.

        • +1

          The way is this.

  • Does this support dual monitor output, one with HDMI and the other via the additional USB C?

    • +2

No - see the QA section.

      • Thanks mate. I had a look there but didn't read the answer about charging the laptop given I figured it wouldn't mention output.

  • Can this be used with a Mac Mini for dual monitor set up (1 monitor connected to Mac monitor via direct HDMI - not through this) and the other monitor connected through the hdmi port on this adaptor?

    • Does Mac Mini not have a HDMI port? mine certainly does.

      • Yes it does but i am asking if i can use this adaptor to use a 2nd monitor

    • Yes, will work

  • Thank you. Got one. Feels solid and well built.
