Wonder what was better, 6a for $340 or 6 for $420….

  • +52

The battery can last up to 48 hours

    How, by not using it?

    • +12

Yeah just keep it turned off and use nokia 3310 as side chick

    • +1

One of my previous burner phones would last a whole week if you only did text and calling. I'm sure this would be the same ;)

    • +2

Yeah… My 6a dropped from 50% charge to 10% in 15mins at the default Honkai Impact settings (it defaulted close to max). I doubt the 6 would be much better but this phone dies so damn fast compared to my previous phones… Even when not using it, it dropped from 55% to 25% while I slept… Maybe Android 14 will be better.

      • +1

pretty sure you got a bad one

        mine doesn't do that

      • +15

        Even when not using it

Hundreds of tasks in the background including sending your information to Google.

        • +3

Yep, pretty much… I disabled tonnes but I still get shit like coming back to my phone with Chrome having automatically opened itself asking for permission for something or rather (Firefox is set as default..).

            • @kroy: I have been considering a custom OS but I don't know if I really want to spend the time to install it. That specific one seems like it might be too restrictive.

              • +1

@AreYouAWiiizard: Honestly doesn't take that long at all. The web installer on their site is pretty straightforward and I'd imagine if there was anything that ended up being slow, it'd be if your internet is crap and so the download ends up taking a while.

Compatibility with Sandboxed Google Play Services is excellent overall, so it's not really as restrictive as you think (unless you need Android Auto which doesn't work, and you might have to be careful with some payments/banking apps).

Coupled with the security + privacy benefits and none of the rubbish Google bloat, imo it's a no-brainer to give it a go.

        • Plus side is you can easily flash Graphene OS and deGoogle it

      • +4

You need to not use 5 g. Set default network to 4g. It like halves the battery usage. Make sure hot spot is off as well

        • +1

Thanks for the tip, disabled 5g since Woolworths mobile lies about supporting it it seems. It never enabled 5g even when I'm always in coverage area but I did get a warning when I left a 5g zone :/

EDIT: Haha nah, I'm just an idiot, the long expiry plans are only 4g.

        • +1

          This

It uses 25 percent more power keeping the 5g modem repeating

No one actually uses 5g..it's a bit of a scamm

telstra 4g can top out at 390Mbit…you do not need that on a phone..

          • @reader64: Yeah a lot of people don't understand 50 or even 30 is enough to do everything in a regular day. Downloading large apps and files isn't a regular thing especially on data.

    • +1

My old Lumia 930 can last about two weeks if all you do is text. And that’s all it can do nowadays. The funny fhing is the Lumia still has a better keyboard than Google or Apple offerings.

  • +1

Great phone, for the e price a must.

Can do dual sim e-sim plus hardware sim, snappy and ok size for small handed people.

    • +1

Indeed it's nice and I really like it but the small battery is a killing factor for me because I don't want to carry a phone and a powerbank and cable.

      • +1

Battery life for me is ok, usually have on charge during drive home while listening to audiobooks.

Do have a power bank in bag but rarely use it.

    • +6

      used

      • +2

        my bad, missed that

      • +7

Whoever just bought one didn't get the memo.

New Australian model 24 months manufacturer warranty $423.20
Used Grey import 12 months store warranty $393.42

or are there people out there that genuinely think the $30 (7%) saving makes it worth it?

  • This or zenfone 9?

    • +2

      zf9

    • +3

zenfone is a compact flagship with good battery and strong Snapdragon chip. The Pixel's highlights are updates and camera, with its battery not the best thing about it.

      • -4

zenfone is a compact flagship with good battery

It's even smaller than the Pixel 6, good enough for half day.

        • +4

The Zenfone 9 tests with significantly better battery life in real world tests, as the Snapdragon has way better power management than the Tensor. So the mAh difference is not the whole story.

    • +1

      this

  • +1

did the list of problems from the 6 pro exists in the 6?

    • +6

I had the 6. Absolute dog shit phone. Randomly dropped connectivity all the time. Gave them ample time to sort out the long list of bugs (Perpetual "a fix is coming" story). After 9 months I returned it to Google. They only offered a credit until I worded them up on my familiarity with Australian Consumer Law protections. Had a full refund pretty quickly after that.

    • Not sure, but they didn't in the 6a from what I heard

  • -5

I used to buy from Mobileciti but Samsung and Google both claimed Mobileciti is not Authorized Reseller. (Samsung experienced = Galaxy A70 with resealed Box (supposed to be brand new), Samsung confirmed the phone was originally sold to Vodafone. Google Pixel 2 = Google couldn't identified the seller but they took the receipt and repaired my phone under warranty).

    • +1

      HI bobokingdom

Mobileciti is an authorized reseller for Samsung, and we are also actively involved in various Samsung retail promotions and product launches.

Please see this, any issues please send me the PM.

      • -1

My apologies, I mixed up Allphones with Mobileciti. Allphones is the one that is not authorized.(https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/544123)

        • +2

All good, let me know if you facing any issues, can always try to help inc allphones.

          • +1

@AHUANG: Are you also authorised reseller of Google

            • @pyramid: While we are not an authorized reseller of Google products ourselves, we do source our Google stock from authorized resellers and distributors. This means that all the products we provide should be covered by Australian warranty. If any issues arise, we are committed to assisting you in dealing with them to ensure a smooth resolution.

        • +1

Aren't they pretty much the same company?

    • +3

mobilecity did run a few dodgy deals in the past, including selling open box phones as brand new

also they are dodgy as if something goes wrong with purchased device

      avoid if possible

  • +3

had my pixel 6pro since release, wireless charging failed within a few months, but otherwise been alright, will probs be my last pixel ill own

  • +4

Pixel 8 should be out in about 6 weeks. Might be some good pixel 7 deals for black friday

    • Pixel 7 for less than $500 would be an instant buy

      • +2

Battery life still sucks regardless if it's a Pixe 7 or Pixel 6

        • +3

True. Even worse when the already low battery life degrades further 2-3 years later. Charging more than once a day on a flagship is a deal breaker.

        • +1

Pixel 6 is my daily driver since nov 2021 and even after a heavy use entire day, I only every charge once a day. There are days when I forget to charge at night, and its still around 30% in the morning.

          • +1

@raj koothrappali: I guess you're one of the lucky ones, I had a 6 pro that had absolutely terrible SOT.

      • It's already been $499

  • Ah the legendary 6. Heard so much about it. Heard 6a had less problems, though that could be just the benefit of the price.

  • Sold my pixel 6 second hand for about this 2 months ago. Wow

  • -1

Not worth it imo. These were $347 on clearance at my local Officeworks a couple months ago, so have been cheaper before but not widespread I'm assuming

    • Missed opportunity for a good deal.

  • -6

Daily PSA $200 iPhones are faster

    https://browser.geekbench.com/mobile-benchmarks

    • +6

Bad comparison. iOS is trash so that's a deal breaker.

      • -6

I’ll use trash if its faster and gets the job done

    • +1

      Faster at what?

      • I use my phone for email social media light browsing, and it is faster not just because the processor, iOS is also better optimised

Android runs on Java guys thats not a language known for speed

        • +4

Faster scrolling social media? is this a joke?

          • -3

            @noise36: I wish I was joking

Have you tried binge reading Twitter, my old android phone literally dies after a few hundred tweets

            • +2

@abctoz: Twitter gives you brain cancer, I will have to take your word for it.

              • -2

@noise36: Depends on who you read, you might get beneficial brain cancer make your iq bigger

        • "Android runs on Java"

          No. It doesn't.

          • @16k-zx81: Should I Google that or

            • +1

@abctoz: Sure, you'll find out that Android uses Java, along with Kotlin, JavaScript, C, Go, C++ and Assembly so quite a few more languages than just Java.

              • -3

@ldd-mn: that’s amazing but why is it still so slow

                • @abctoz: Probably because you've only ever used budget Android phones? Android doesn't dictate how fast your phone is, if you're buying a $100 phone with low end hardware, it's going to be slow.

                  • -1

@ldd-mn: But the software that runs on android dictates how fast the software is? Nano need to change topics

                • @abctoz: have you used a iPhone SE 3rd gen? which is 799 bucks, this is 339 and the performance makes the iphone SE look like a iphone 5 with ios 7 in speed. The performance with android 13 on it is insanely good and the photos rival an iphone 14 pro I was very surpriced on how good the pixel 6A is for the price. and to top it off its Vanilla Android pushed out directly from google, you will get android updates directly and on release days like android 14 coming, I am tired of people not doing research or knowing nothing in general.

    • Your copy&paste comment got 19 negs last time lol

Curious which iPhones you are referring to and if it is new. Any link?

      • I’m making friends and influencing ppl

iPhone SE 2020 when on sale is around 200

        • Probably watch this testing video

Pretty sure they compare the tops and the price of the iPhone is 2-3 times of Pixel's. When it comes to less than 1s difference in speed, it's more about personal preference. It's not only about chasing benchmark scores.

iPhone SE 2020 when on sale is around 200

It should be refurb iPhone SE 2020 around that price

          • @Bii: They should just benchmark Twitter scroll 1000 tweets. If I save a minute a day that’s 5hrs a year

            • @abctoz: In this case, it comes to specific needs. Maybe you can write a request for the next testing video.

From my knowledge, scrolling 1000 tweets would be ram consuming. Pixel phones in general come with more rams than iPhones. So, shouldn't really matter.

Say it crushes at 1000th tweet and takes 1s-2s to refresh/restart. You will need 30 crushes per day to save 1 minute. That's 30k tweets a day. Oops, Tweet X daily hour alerts!

              • @Bii: I think I’ll save a minute a day just from typing the more responsive touchscreen

I’ll waste it all arguing with ppl on ozbargain tho dw

                • @abctoz: That's not the purpose of your comment in the first place tho. I feel like I am the one who wasted time responding to ppl

            • @abctoz: They should benchmark switch emulation. That’s the only thing I’m interested in getting more power in a phone.

  • I saw the pixel 6a 128gb at jb hifi the other day for 399

    • local mark down?

      • it was delievery also but looks like its store only now at jb hifi and they will match googles pricing if you ask.

    • Still selling for this in the Google store, or $339 with code. Writing this on a $339 pixel 6a.

That said if the pixel 6 was available for this price a week ago I'd definitely have gone for that instead because it has wireless charging.

      • I looked a an hour or so ago, and all the colours of the 6a are OOS on Google store.

  • Damn, probably would have bought this over the 6a deal if they had been on at the same time. guh

    • +1

the 6a is a steal if you get it for that 339 mark. you can buy a wireless receiver and you golden this works a treat "10W Qi Receiver USB C, Thin Wireless Charging Receiver for Type C Phone, Super-Fast Qi Wireless Charging Receiver and Adapter" and charges at 10w. You can find them on amazon. Not sure if I can post a link on ozbargin last time I did I got banned.

  • +1

Surprisingly, no one talks about Telstra any longer.

  • My total comes to $529. I am with ebayplus. None of the vouchers worked for me.

    • Looks like both vouchers gone or expired..
