You always worry about 'free lifetime'.
When something is free, then YOU are the product.
    OzB philosophy.

    • +6

They just want a shit load of reviews so then people will pay money for it.

      • +15

Seems like a fair and decent way to go about it.

        • +2

          yeah, nothing wrong with it.

      • +10

They went from #150s to #6 in the food & drink category in couple days with 0 marketing expenses.

Good on you OP and wish you guys all the best.

Me: looking up a recipe, clicking on first link, Please, I beg you, just tell me the ingredients and method.

    RECIPE SITE: Sure!

    ME: Thank you.

RECIPE SITE: After I explain WHY I love these ingredients-

    ME: *Whispers* No….

RECIPE SITE: -It was a crisp, fall evening, and I, a wide-eyed college student, was studying in Rome…

    • +11

Haha that's every website / blog! None of that on Recime! Just the recipe :)

    • +3

GPT models produce pretty decent recipes, make substitutions as required, and only give you the backstory of how their dog found the secret to the recipe whole escaping an erupting volcano if you specifically ask them to

  • +2

Requires iOS 16 or later :(

    • So sorry about that!

    • +1

      its free

    • +7

You know iOS 17 is coming out this month, right? Sounds like you really need to update your device.

      • iOS 15 forever!

      • +1

Some of us can't afford to buy a new iPad every few years and the ones we have are still fit for purpose. I have an older iPad mini that I use as a kitchen recipe device and it only needs limited functionality such as web-browsing/Youtube - both of which work fine on the older iOS.

    • A shame, I would have liked to have access to this app.

I don’t need a newer iPad than the two I have already.

Oh well Google searches for recipes will have to do I suppose.

  • -3

I'm not sure I understand why this is a deal?
Is this the Premium Sub you were charging $4.99 for 4 days ago?
Or it was free 4 days ago, and is still free now?

    • It's now free! The one 4 days ago was 90% off.

  • +6

    Thanks. Worked.

    • Awesome, thanks for checking it out!

  • +1

Love it! The blog scraping and unit conversion is great.
However it had some trouble on my favourite carrot cake recipe. Getting a few &amp and unrecognised units

    • +1

Thank you so much for checking it out and sharing the screenshots. The blog scraping isn't 100% perfect and some ingredients may not import properly. We're working on it though! Is there anything else you'd like to see?

      • +4

        Great! So far:

I didn’t like the un-closeable pop up asking me to try the blog saving feature. I’m not interested in those sites and already have used the feature.

In recipe recreation, I’m swiping up and down to select the duration, but swiping up and down also closes the window. This was annoying
        https://streamable.com/1ajtdu

I would love the ability to add recipes from
scans. My grandmas cook book is typed on old paper, but definitely readable by OCR. For now I can use iOS built in text selection in the photos app and copy and paste. But i would love to take multiple photos and your app could format everything correctly.

I love the increase/decrease serving size feature!

        • +1

Thank you so much for your detailed feedback, really appreciate it. I've relayed this back to the team and will prioritise some of these changes or feature recommendations.

I'm unfortunately unable to view the video (404 error). Is this in reference to selecting the 'prep time' and 'cook time' when uploading a recipe? You can also email me [email protected] if easier.

        • +1

"I would love the ability to add recipes from
          scans. "

I agree- so many handwritten recipes, so scanning them in would make life easy

          • +1

@derdew: Noted, thanks for checking it out and agree that it would be awesome to add in!

            • @homecookingaddict: I definitely +1 this comment - the amount of recipes from my mother and grandmother which are all still in the original handwritten versions.

Some are 70 years old, lots were from pre metric days so being able to put in imperial measurements or hand written or scanned and maybes OCR Recipes, and convert to metric - though a lot of my personal newer plastic measuring spoons and cups are metric, I have been given some older ones from my mother who is in her 80s and I’ve been trying to convince her for 20 years to scan them, but the OCR is poor, honestly would almost be quicker typing some of them.

My grandmother’s recipes, she couldn’t smuggle them out of Austria when they made their escape in 1938, she spend months, possibly a few years writing up all the ones she could remember when they finally got to Australia and a lot are in pencil on used or second hand paper.

Those are the family recipes passed down and though I want to preserve all of them, the ones my Grandmother did by hand from memory, are a link to my mother’s family heritage.

Even though I’ve told my mother to go photocopy everything, right now, my mother still uses the originals when cooking something. I’m thinking, “you are leaving all the cooking mess on them and not even using gloves to touch the paper!” lol.

I know my sister would love to save them and has already put her hand up to inherit them. In the mean time, trying to get my mother who is quite capable of using a computer and scanner, to scan them in and if required I might be able to some restoration before I turn them into PDFs

              • +1

@dman1: Thanks for upvoting - we will look into OCR! Wow these recipes are very old and it would be great to digitally store them and document them so they're preserved for future!

Very brave of your mum to cook with the originals. Perhaps you can try upload them manually onto ReciMe if it's faster than OCR.

Goodluck and please let me know if you have any questions or feedback, my email [email protected] is always open!

  • not working for me- signed up for the free trial, and don't see the "Tap ‘Upgrade to ReciMe Plus’" step. any fix for this?

    • So odd! Just checking you've got an iPhone and not Android?

    • I think you may have signed up for the 'free trial' when you signed up, so you won't see the 'Upgrade to ReciMe Plus' button. I'll clarify the instructions, but you may need to create a new account in order to access the free lifetime subscription.

      • correct, I did. worked fine setting up a new account, but can't delete my old one

  • would be keen if there is an Android version. I sometimes use Samsung food (formerly Whisk) for saving recipes and aggregating groceries

    • +1

We're currently trialing on iOS and will get to Android! Thoughts on Samsung food / Whisk?

      • +1

Thoughts on Samsung food / Whisk:

        Pros:
        - Generally good in extracting ingredients
        - Good groceries list that shows ingredients for multiple recipes
        - Grocery list allows sorting by AIsle (e.g. fruit together) or recipe
        - Some (although limited) integrationw ith Alexa

        Cons:
        - Shows all the blurb for recipes, including advertisement from the original website, rather than just the recipe

        • Thanks for sharing!

          ReciMe can:
          - Extract ingredients from websites quite accurately (unless there's multiple quantities or obscure ingredients)
          - Extract full recipe (prep time, cook time, serving, ingredient, method) without blurbs for recipes, ads etc
          - Groceries list that shows ingredients by recipe or by aisle

We don't have integrations with Alexa.

      • +1

        I'd also like android version

        I'm on Google phone

  • Thanks. Will give it a go.

  • -1

You say you’re an addict. Any recipes for meth?

    • haha an addict for food not drugs !

  • Worked! Thanks!

    • Thanks so much for checking it out :)

  • Thank you! Is the subscription tied to the device or the account?

    • +1

To the account. You should be able to access the subscription on multiple Apple devices :)

      • That's great, thank you! Would be really amazing if the app worked on iOS 15.7.8, have a few older devices and one is an older iPad specifically used for recipes / kitchen stuff.

        • Thanks for sharing! We will look into making it accessible for older versions.

  • Says compatible with Macbook M1, but keeps crashing. Any ideas ?

    • Oh this is a bug, thanks for picking this up. Will check it out. Do you have an iPhone to check out the app instead?

      • When I search App Store from my Macbook it says that there is only iPhone version?

        • The app is developed & optimised for iPhone / iPad. But it should still be downloadable on Macbook! I've got it on my Macbook, but as Eric raised, there's a crashing issue. Will get onto it fixing it!

          • @homecookingaddict: Since ReciMe works only with the latest iOS (16), maybe it also needs the latest macOS to run (13)?

    • Fwiw, I first tried on the same machine, a 2020 M1 MBP, and it worked. Screen dimensions are for an iPad.

A quick test would be to create a new user account (<1 min?) log in to it, then try ReciMe from there.

      • If it works, the problem is likely with your main account.
      • If it doesn't, your (older?) macOS version may not be supported by ReciMe.

      My 2c.

  • +2

Thanks a lot! Looking forward to trying it out. Is it possible to create a shared cookbook so my wife and I can add bookmarked recipes to the same place?

    • +1

I would also be interested in this as we both do the shopping/cooking

      • +3

Great to know, will note this as a feature people want!

      • Yup, would like that - at the moment I am transitioning from Rezepthos (a web-based recipe manager) to Mealie (which is hosted in our home Proxmox/Docker automation environment).

One of the things that we do, do, is share the shopping list as an IOS shared Reminder List. From phone, watch, or Homepods in the kitchen, we can say "Hey Siri, add rice to Grocery list"

The bulk of the shop is Woolies (who have a relatively decent ordering app, but the transfer from the reminder to their app has to be manual. (We also shop at Coles, Aldi, Costco, and occasionally IGA mainly for specials, or obscure store-specific products). Going from a recipe list to a shared reminder list or even an app would be super cool. Of course, if you are getting into that level of interaction, then working out who has the best price for the ingredient would be the icing on the cake.

Of course, one of the challenges is that every "app" does it's own thing" and doesn't talk to others.

While on that topic, check out yuka.io - they rate store products on "how healthy it is for you" - integrating that if possible would be cool. or at least delivering a similar outcome.

        • Mealie is good.

        • Thanks so much for sharing how you plan for meals and grocery shop, it is super helpful for us to understand how to make this process easier! These are all great ideas and we would love to explore these down the line. We'll also check out yuka.io. Cheers!

    • Thank you so much! Shared cookbooks aren't available yet but are coming!

  • Require iOS 16 or over…

  • User face seems fairly smooth and nice looking forward to using it.

    • Thanks so much, hope you like it!

  • This is a brilliant app. I have been looking for something like this for ages! Keep up the good work

    • +1

Thanks so much! Hope you enjoy the recipes and welcome all feedback, good & bad :)

  • I need to get my mum to try this. She is technology illiterate and has hundreds of recipe tabs opened on her phone.

    • That would be great! We'd love for her to store those recipes on ReciMe, categories recipes into cookbooks, add ingredients to groceries etc. I'd love to know her experience!

  • +1

its also available for android :)

    • +1

Yes it is! Android is just a few versions behind and doesn't have subscription and some of the iOS features. Enjoy and feel free to share feedback :)

  • +12

    Lol.

      😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 🔥

  • thanks for sharing it with steps to gain subscription with ease…very much looking forward to making use of it!

    • Not a problem at all! Thanks so much for checking it out and hope you like it!

      • It's an awesome app, i just added a recipe there in which now I can easily share with friends and family. Really like the easy way of adding information there.

        • Thank you so much and I'm so happy to hear it was a seamless process. Hope to see more recipes :)

  • Seems link a nice app so far, are you considering developing an Apple Watch app?

Thoughts on supporting live activities to quickly navigate (basic) steps? Perhaps a timer? Kind of like how this app does it

    • Thank you for the feedback! We haven't looked into Apple Watch integration yet but we'll check out Pestle. We definitely want to make cooking as easy & seamless as possible, so features like in built timers is coming. We do have 'step by step cooking mode' which allows you to cook along to any recipe more easily. Just tap on 'Start Cooking Now' button any recipe to check it out.

  • Thank you man. Great app.

Feedback: on the grocery page, when looking up for items, if I type “Car” I would like to have all the ingredients available starting with “Car”. Then “Carrot” will show up and I can just select it.
Faster to select all ingredients. English isn’t my first language it’s also easier to find ingredients.

    Cheers man

    • Thanks so much! Your English is great! Feedback noted and something we can look to explore within the grocery page.

We have this exact feature on the 'explore' page where you can search for recipes by ingredients. Under the 'Search by Ingredients' section, when you tap 'see all' and start typing to search for what's in your pantry, ingredient options will appear as you type. Is this what you're looking to see?

  • Thanks for sharing

    • Not a problem, thanks for checking it out!

  • +1

Comparison with Paprika and Pestle? :)

Also, possible to import our many Paprika recipes (it allows you to export)

    • +1

Also would like to know how to move paprika recipes to recime

      • You can definitely move them! You probably just need to do it manually as we don't have an integration to import directly from Paprika

    • +1

Paprika has all the features we have + pantry management as well. They also have an in-app browser to import recipes but we don’t. They don't have the community/social aspect and our interface is more modern. Their cost for lifetime subscription is cheaper though (~$8 i think).

Pestle has import recipe, shopping list which we have. They have meal plans which we don't but they also don't allow users to upload recipes to community or find recipes. Their free tier allows you to import 15 recipes, then you pay $31AUD per year.

You can definitely import Paprika recipes to ReciMe, there isn't an integration to easily import, but you can paste blocks of ingredients and method. I'd love to know if you give this a go!

  • Loving the app so far. Any chance of being able to share private receipes to friends to follow? Perhaps access with private links only?

    • Thank you soo much! Not yet but love the idea! We definitely want to build something like that (like a collaborative cookbook) so you can share recipes privately with friends & family!

  • FYI on iPhone 8 screen, the No Thanks was half chopped off. I was lucky to be able to click on it.

    • Thanks for the heads up! We try to optimise on as many phone sizes as we can!

  • +1

This is great! Thanks so much!

This is similar to whisk by Samsung which I quite like.

    Some feedback:
    - Can you make the grocery list smarter? E.g two individual limes from two recipes should add to 2x limes rather than having 1x limes written twice
    - Same with recipes using different units, it would be great if the app will calculate what 1 cup and 20ml of soy sauce adds up to
    - Can multiple users see a single list and edit it? E.g having a family help with the shopping and being able to check off the ingredient live would be fantastic!

    Anyways great job!

    • Awesome feedback, we don't do any of those yet but definitely plan to make groceries & ingredients bundling smarter and allow for recipe/cookbook/grocery collaboration. Is there anything else you'd like to see? Always looking for more feedback so feel free to share them with me anytime - [email protected] :) Thanks!

    I’m a co-founder

Have you already started wearing black turtle necks and talking in a deeper-than-normal voice? I heard ted-x broken hill has a few empty spots and were keen to get some speakers.

  • Thanks. Does the lifetime sub save to my account? ie. if I install this on my iPad and login to the account I created on iPhone, will it recognise the unlocked sub or do I have to do the trick on every device I install it on?
