  • Anyone actually flown with them before? Reviews are kind of terrible

    • I have domestically in the Philippines. No complaints. I think what people usually complain about is the airport in Manila, but again, it was just an airport. Not great, not terrible—that was my experience.

    • +1

The flight was fine, but if you have to go through Manila, I'd look elsewhere. One of the worst experiences ever. They also have a tendency to make your flight look fine when you book then like 3 months before hand introduce a 24 hour layover at one of the worst airports ever.

Shout out to Cafe France though

    • I've been flying with them for a while and haven't had any major issues. It is a budget airline so don't expect everything to be perfect

      • +1

It is not a budget airline - its full service. Are you thinking of Cebu Pacific maybe?

        • +1

Made a mistake, yeah I was thinking of Cebu Airlines.

      • Philippine Airlines is a full service airline and the country's national carrier. Cebu Pacific is the country's major budget airline.

I flied with them 6 times in the last 2 years. The flights were above avg, newish plane, nice service and meal, nothing to complain.

However, the transit at Manila airport were terrible. Small and chaotic terminal, no Macdonald or Starbucks(my safe food choices in a strange place), limited wifi services, and the worst part is that you need to recheck your luggage in a super cramped room.

    • Planes are pretty ok, good leg room. Below average food though. What's terrible is the layover in Manila coming back to Australia. You have to get your check in bags to have it examined in a cramp and very crowded room. Then most of the shops doesn't accept credit cards so you have to withdraw money from the atm.

    • How many people will leave a positive review after an uneventful flight?

    • Flew biz with them from Tokyo to Oz a few months ago, overall very good for the price (was cheaper than one way QF economy) at super short notice.

Re the flight, both food and staff were good. However, one of our seats on the 777 to MNL wouldn't fully recline into a bed and also had an issue with the IFE. Thankfully it was a day flight.

MNL airport on the other hand is 1000% pure chaos. The staff are lovely but the system is chaos. The PAL terminal and the lounge need a lottttt of work.

    • just went to Japan via Manila. internal transfer is a bit annoying with the bag scan but it's the same terminal. I did just carry-on and the flight was fine.

  • It's cheap because it's not a direct flight

  • Its cheap regardless - Scoot which doesn't include luggage or anything else and is via Singapore is $714 from Sydney on the same dates.

  • +1

Keep in mind that all luggage bound from Manila to Australia (including transit) must go through the mandatory baggage screening process in person before you board your flight to Australia. If you don't have sufficient time for the screening before departure, you must leave them the lock code of your baggage and you won't get your luggage on arrival in Australia. Link

  • I wonder if you can book the flight to Hongkong but just stay in Manila and on the return flight the same? Or is Sydney Manila the same price?

    • Lol i was just going to ask the same its a good price if wanting to go from Sydney etc to Manila return.

    • You can't - if you miss a leg of your flight they will cancel the rest of your flights. Not sure what dates you're looking at but Sydney -Manila nonstop is $764 which is not bad at all

      • Why is it cheaper to fly to Hongkong via Manila than to fly direct to Manila?

        • Because direct flights are considered more 'premium'

      • Do you have one for Tokyo/Osaka stopping in Manila?
