Google Nest Mini Chalk $40 + Delivery ($0 C&C/In-Store) @ Bunnings

230

Looks like Bunnings has price-matched Target. Plenty of stocks and delivery is possible for an extra $10 (whereas Target only offers click-and-collect on a very limited store - none in VIC around my area). This is the second-gen of Google Mini and, therefore has better sound quality and improved voice recognition compared to the Home Mini (first gen).

  • Just saw it $30 at Target

    • Only at certain branches I guess. Cannot find at Target nearby. And cannot purchase online as well.

I already share my personal data with Google for free

Miss the times when these were sold at $18. I just bought 1 back then thinking it was going to come back on sale often,

    • I bought like 5 at that time. Sounds like new model is coming

Still have a drawer full of these from the Google subscription hack

    • I put one in every bedroom then almost immediately removed all but one when the wrong speaker kept answering and turning on the wrong things.

Has anyone else found that the quality of Google Homes has gone down with time? I feel like they used to be great. Now it doesn't listen to me half the time or spits out an error. Ive got multiple devices so it's not just one unit. Ive been using Alexa instead which seem to work better, but speaker quality isn't as good.

Mine is terrible now. Barely understands anything. Great speaker though (the larger one).

Yup. Same issue. I took it off all my sonos speakers as it was driving us mad. And very delayed too.

Yep have a handful of google devices and they’re all heading downhill. Have one Alexa thing and it’s never missed a beat.

    • +1

Yep many tech reviewers have said the same thing. Become worse over time.

Noticed this as well, maybe we're all used to how good chatgpt is lol

It's the #1 discussions on Reddit for the past few years. The word recognition seems to have gone down, but the instruction interpretation has fallen to the floor :(

  • Perfect shower speaker, bought them back when it was $19.
Not sure if I’d pay more for it though.

    • Moisture proof?

      • Been doing okay for more than a year now. Since I only payed $19, I didn’t bother checking

      • +1

I had one in the shower for years without issue

  • I have this. Every week or so it disconnects itself from the Internet and takes a while to reconnect. I've given up on it

I have about 6 of these (most of them free or very cheap through deals). They are pathetic. Almost all of them have completely crapped out sound quality wise, Very static-like sound coming out. Also pretty hopeless in the voice recognition department and actually figuring out what I am trying to ask.

My older ones are becoming more senile as they age. Is these planned obsolesces or is Google getting worse with Assistant. I often have to repeat myself.

    • Very true. Same request yields different responses. Hoping this unit has more consistent responses vs the old Google home mini.

  • I have found Echo Dots to be a much better option than this; if you can get them @ $15

Got JB to price match. Don’t recommend the unit for actual music playback - but sufficient for a white noise or baby sleep music.
