HP's budget could only afford a number, not a name :(

  • 250 nits screen - _ -

    • oh wait - now I know where it's name comes from

    trash screen

but all manufacturers are equally bad still, putting trash panels into even 1k+ laptops to artificially create hardware tiers

the cost difference between a good panel (nothing fancy, just sensible IPS 300nit 60hz FHD with close to full sRGB coverage (NTSC 72%), doesn't need to be calibrated at factory) and a trash panel is just a couple dollars, all laptops should be equipped with good quality panels

but no, trash panels continue to be produced and are put in everything "budget" on purpose

used to make me sick and still does

it used to be relatively easy to upgrade panels though, so you could grab something budget and put a good panel into it, I used to do it few years back

but manufacturers started gluing panels to the chassis, the bastards

it's still possible most of the time, just much harder where before when they were screwed to the chassis it could have been done by every man woman and child, getting a good panel used to cost around $150 for the parts
