The title and price aren't a mistake. This monster of a flashlight from Wuben is capable of producing up to 12,000 lumens up to of light up to 303m that brings night time activites to a whole new area. In this video from 4:20 you can see how bright it really is when in turbo mode.

Obviously when in turbo mode it's only for a limited time due to how much power it consumes. The next level down is 3000 lumens and it can run in this mode for 1.7 hours. To help with the heat generated there's an inbuilt fan for active cooling.

Other modes include high (2600lm), medium (1000lm), low (400lm), eco (20lm), strobe (3000lm) and SOS (200lm). It's using 3x CRE XHP70.20 6000K LEDs, has an IP55 waterproof rating, uses two 21700 batteries for a total of 4800mAh battery capacity with 27W USB-C fast charging and weighs 379g total.

Thanks. Won’t need to turn the heater on now.

    • +5

That'll save on power. Hook it up to some solar charging during the day and light up the street by night.

  • -4

Spec show it to be only 2000lumens.

    • +12

What should you believe? The title, description, images, review videos, official website stating 12000 lumens or one tiny little table entry saying 2000 lumens from Amazon?

      • +6

2000 lumens is the high setting. It does go to 10000 lumens on turbo but it won't sustain it for more than a few minutes.

        https://1lumen.com/review/wuben-x1/

        • +3

According to the specs by Wuben you'll get 12000lm for about 1 minute, 3000lm continuously up to 1.7 hours and up to 2600lm in high mode.

          • +4

@Clear: 1lumen measured 2,500 lm on High for about 2 hours. Turbo was 9,566 lm at 30 seconds (ANSI/PLATO FL1).

I measured 2,300 lm on High for about 2 hours. Turbo dropped to a similar level. My DIY lumen tube could be out by 10%. Turbo was 9,189 lm at 30 seconds.

Each mode was pretty close to Wubens specs. Turbo stood as as being slightly under by about 2-3k. I think it's fair to say that the X1 falls short of the 12,000 lm claim.

You could take independent reviews with a grain of salt. That said, the results by different reviewers could be compared to see the pro's, con's, runtime, beamshots, beam distance etc. If they are all very similar, then it might point to a manufacturer publishing an incorrect claim (e.g. 12,000 lm) or each reviewer could have the same flaw with their DIY test equipment (e.g. PVC tubes, DIY integrating spheres, vs very expensive spheres used by factories).

I am biased, and associated with Wuben, having had reviewed the X0, X1, X2, X3 and visited their factory and headquarters.

One downside is that two 21700 cells are connected in series. They are not balance charged. They should ideally be matched at the factory or the voltages might become different.

There isn't much room for unprotected flat top 21700 cells. The tolerances are pretty tight.

Some users on reddit mentioned that the button feels a bit squishy due to the water resistant membrane.

Overall, I think it's a pretty good torch and the runtimes are awesome.

            • +2

@Tim Mc: The battery voltages can be checked every once in a while to see if they're the same.

    • All the images say 12000, I will just assume it's bright

      • +3

Because you're wrong by trying to say it's only 2000 lumens. When infact it is capable of 12000 and in the lower modes it goes to 3000 and below.

        • The dude said the spec says 2000 lumens. Is that incorrect or does it say that?

          • @tonka: Let me refer to this. If that's too hard to comprehend I can point to some free resources to help with reading.

The torch is not just 2000lm.

            • +1

@Clear: C'mon then, point to all these resources that help with reading.

          • +4

@tonka: Correctly quoting an incorrect spec from the Amazon listing, wow.

            • @OZKap: Yeah, so you have a discussion about it, not pile on as if he's a crim. OzB used to be a decent place to converse. Now it's just unhealthly as F.

              • +1

@tonka: He finds the smallest possible detail that says something completely different to everything else everywhere and rolls with it. When it's pointed out it's incorrect instead of admitting fault he continues to defend it.

The voting on OzBargain isn't the problem. The stupidity is. Especially those who are trying to pass off their opinions as facts without bothering to check. I could link a few comments in this deal where that's happening.

So do you want to roll with the idea that this is only capable of 2000lm and nothing else?

                • +2

@Clear: I want to roll with the idea that it is a comment section not a cage fight. You could be a tad less aggressive in your response. The dude was factually correct and doesn't even present an opinion. Your response could have been as simple as, 'Yeah looks like Amazon's info is incorrect' not made out he was an idiot.
By the way he doesn't defend the Amazon info at any point, give yourself a neg Mr Neg Man.

                    @tonka:

                    The dude was factually correct

Factually correct about an incorrect fact that was blatantly incorrect.

        • So I state what the specs state, to actual show they were wrong, but the fragile, that think they know it all, puff their chests up and defend it. They must have a lonely life living their life in their mothers bedroom. I read the specs correctly and the post as well. So it is actually you that needs to refer to your own resources to help with reading. Whilst your at it, grab a couple of counselling sessions with the psych for anger management.

      • +3

        Probably cos you're wrong dude

      • Don't fret over down votes, they usually mean you're correct around here.

        • +2

          Except in this case.

        • "You're not wrong, Walter, you're just an (profanity)"

  • +1

I hope they include a glove to hold this thing..

    • +4

Fortunately the fan is directly behind the LEDs and the batteries aren't going to heat up anymore than any other flashlight. Unless you plan on being silly by sticking your hand directly on the LEDs.

This is backed up by countless videos too.

    • +1

Haven't use this in summer yet but the handle stays cool. Just don't touch the end or fan region, that's tooooasty

    • The head and body are two seperate parts held together with four screws so less heat transfers to the body.

I've been able to turn it off without burning myself. I can't say the same with some hot rods where a metal button is too hot to touvh (70 C). 🥵

  • +5

You had me at "in-built fan".

  • +9

This is a good discount indeed but I don't really see the appeal of this light unless you need a somewhat compact flooder that has great sustained output. It is low CRI and has an ugly beam shape and beam color

so in other words, it's a hot rod light that can show off but because it's so floody it does a mediocre job of it. However if your friends have never seen a modern hotrod light before it will definitely impress.

    • Curios to hear what you would go for? Going on a long road trip soon, so something like this might be handy in the glove box… Something with a tripod mount would be good.

      • +12

do you need long battery life? size constraints? water proofing? are you using it to illuminate objects an arm's length away or a kilometer away?
If you have money to spend, which I assume you do if you're consider a $170 flashlight, I recommend 2 lights, a headlamp for close to medium distances and a larger light for further distances.
reddit.com/r/flashlight is a great resource for seeing what lights are out there.

Just to get an idea of what's out there, the Acebeam X75 70.3 is rated at 67,000 lm and 1.3km but it's bulky and the lowest mode is 900lm

        • General purpose, anything from changing a tire at night to setting up a tent to an emergency beacon. Glove box size, a tripod mount and supremely reliable would be high on the wish list.

          • +18

@mostlygordon: everything except tripod mount I would go with
            https://ru.nkon.nl/zebralight-h600d-mk-iv-headlamp-xhp50-2-h…

downsides: supremely reliable but it's completely sealed aside from a twist tailcap. you will have to take the battery out to charge it and not sure you can be bothered bringing a whole 18650 charger on your trip. No, 18650s with built in USB charging won't fit, the H600 are the smallest 18650 headlamps in the market.

If money no object, you can get a modded version of the h600 from some skilled modders in the US, they can swap the LED to a better one in terms of angular tint shift and CRI at the slight cost of output but they are in the US and their skills are expensive.

If you require convenient USB charging, I'd recommend

            https://www.skilhunt.com/product/h04-rc-usb-magnetic-recharg…
with the 519a 4500k LED option or

            https://www.olightstore.com.au/search.html?keyword=Perun-2

Olight build quality and drivers are better than Skilhunt but Skilhunt has a nicer LED.

Olight has a dedicated AU store and they have sales often as well, there's 1 around the corner as well. I'm not affiliated with any of these products mentioned.

these things are hard to give a recommendation for.

Honestly for someone completely new to lights? I'd wait for the upcoming sale and get the Olight; comes with a battery, comes with a magnetic USB charger. Dead simple to operate and aren't cheap chinese. If you're new to lights you won't notice the subpar tinted LEDs and the low CRI.

            • +3

@Bacons: Thanks for the detail response, much appreciated. I guess you can't go wrong with the X9R Marauder;-)

            • @Bacons: Wow you are very smart and handsome. I like your knowledge.

          • +3

@mostlygordon: Just check out OLIGHT website. You’ll find what you’re looking for there. I’m no flashlight expert but everything I’ve bought off them is of super high quality and built to last.

            • @zubzub: Thanks, and can get a referral code from John Carbogan;-)

          • +1

@mostlygordon: Remember those Eveready Dolphin lanterns. Well if one of those had a decent LED, 18650's and a tripod mount.

          • +1

@mostlygordon: That justification for a $170 torch is not convincing.

How often do you change a tyre at night?

Emergency beacon? If you're going really remote off-road, get a sat phone and EPIRB.

          • @mostlygordon: If you want a compact but super bright light, that's cheap but excellent quality, has a tripod mount, USB-C charging, standard 18650 batteries (not proprietary, yes i'm looking at you OLight) waterproof etc then the one that ticks all the boxes is the Sofirn Q8 PRO https://www.amazon.com.au/Sofirn-Rechargeable-Flashlight-Eme…

Funny thing is too, i just noticed their pictures show people in tents and with the torch on a tripod lol. Awesome for the money, it even comes with about $60 worth of batteries and you can get it around $90-$100 on sale.

It will light up your life. :)

        • I have the Acebeam X50 and it is ridiculous, I can't even imagine the X75. The X50 I've driven with in the bush with headlights off and it's brighter than my high beams with aftermarket globes and twin 9" Kings spotlights.

          • @LowRange: Holy crap, closest to what I want, but could nearly have bought a bottle of Grange at Costco today for the asking price.

            • @mostlygordon: The torch is better value at $170 .. plenty of $10 wines that are great

            • @mostlygordon: But then you would have overrated wine instead of a very bright torch. It's not a torches to torches comparison

          • +1

@LowRange: I have the X75 70.3 and I can confirm it truly a menace. I don't use my dedicated thrower anymore because the sheer power of the X75 crosses that distance with ease

            • +1

@Bacons: I can only imagine, that X75 is an absolute monster!

What dedicated throwers do you have? I've got a Fenix RC40 which has a 730 meter throw, and a Warrior X which is 1km but the X50 at 800m destroys the others with the sheer amount of flood.

I'm not a huge Olight fan but the light I grab the most for around the property is the Marauder Mini. The flood/throw switch, and rotary dimmer dial make it so versatile and easy to use.

              • @LowRange: I had a noctigon k1 w1 which back in the day was unbeatable throw for the money but yeah it's only for showing off haha. Useless thin beam. A safer cat laser if you will. I do like the hybrid setup on the marauder mini, would love to try one, Olights are just so simple to use they have me reaching for them all the time

      • Sofirn IF22A (SFT40 emitter) is a pretty good entry level light. Got a few hundred metres of throw and a little bit floody.

      • X1 is pretty good for what it is at this price point. There are larger flooders with tripod mounts but they go up in price to hundreds, e.g. Lumintop Mach, Acebeam X75

  • +1

According to the manual shown in this video, the light has a turbo mode of 12000 lumen for 1 minute otherwise high mode to between 2000 and 3000 lumen.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76Y5BURh4fU&ab_channel=Prepa…

    • +2

yeah but dont let facts get in the way of flogging an overpriced torch

  • Any recommendations for a good bicycle light?

    • +3

I can vouch for this one on AliExpress. The shorter 3000lm is more than enough and the light modes can be set to be more forward or more wide. At the highest brightness it's basically high beam which is good for unlit paths.

It recharges via USB-C and has a USB-A port so you can use it as a power bank.

      • 3K lumen for a cycling light???? lol!!!

        • Chinese lumens.

    • Are we talking road riding or MTB riding?

      • too heavy for road riding .. looks great for trails in dark

    • +2

Have 2 lights, one helmet mounted (bright so you can see - cygolight is a good fairly cheap brand for roads, but not after dark offroad) and one handlebar mounted that flashes, so people can see you (anything off aliexpress is fine).

    • I have an Armytek Wizard C2 Pro Nichia mounted below the handlebars using an Olight FB-1 mount. It has a honeycomb optic and produces a warm and wide beam.

I also use a regular torch (Mateminco FT01). I set it to the third lowest setting and turn it off if I see anyone approaching. The beam is ok for 50-100 metres.

They're not conventional bike lights. 😅

  • wow, would have considered this if it could double up as a powerbank also.

  • +3

Can use as a paint stripper.

  • +1

this thing is so bright, saw the videos……but way out of my price….
it wont last the turbo all the way but since it has active cooling, it does way better than similar priced units

  • +2

    nearly $200+ for a 2K lumen torch…oh its 12K but only for 1 minute
    looks useless and expensive….
    and yet 32 upvotes?

Stunned, like a deer in headlights.

Can i use it on my bike when riding to gym at 5am.

    • +1

Considering you're not allowed to use high beam on metro roads when in your car .. I'm looking forward to the answer

      • They typically don't have anything about the brightness however this part is law:

The front and rear lights must be visible from 200m and the bicycle must also have a red rear reflector visible from 50 metres.

        • surely for safety, this would apply to cyclists to avoid distracting car drivers who could then drive into a post and die ..

          http://classic.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/sa/consol_reg/arr210/…

          • @matt-ozb: Nope that applies to vehicles. You'll find that the legislation around cyclists, personal mobility vehicles etc. only cover the basics.

Unfortunately there are a lot of cyclists who use bright lights in built up areas. I use this and only high beam on the cycling tracks that go through some bushland with no lights.

            • +1

@Clear: i guess if we start using this 12,000 lumens with our bikes, then in a few years the laws for cyclists will change because, using common sense, clearly it's not safe even if legal .. obviously the same safety risk would apply if a cyclist was using a high beam light .. just hopefully we don't cause a traffic death in the meantime when a driver is blinded by our 12,000 lumens on our bike.

              • +2

@matt-ozb: Fortunately the 12000lm only goes for 1 minute and then it goes down to 3000lm.

There's significantly bigger issues with cyclists to worry about in my opinion. Plus heaps of cars with the LEDs break the high beam rules, even the lightbars that police mount on their vehicles.

              • @matt-ozb: yeah ….dont worry about those pesky 'details'. clear has some over priced electronics to flog!!!

                • @franco cozzo: All these comments tell the algorithms to push it further to the front page. Thanks for your contribution.

Funny you don't know the difference between a vehicle and bicycle as evident by your upvote on Matt and neg vote on me. Its as if you're actually trolling.

              • @matt-ozb: 12,000 lumens for a bike on streets is just way too much overkill.
I use 8000 lumens on my MTB and that's only on the downhill sections as it's just not needed on the climbs.
I think 3000-4000 for the streets is plenty for anyone, even if the street lights are out.

  • +1

I picked this up a couple weeks ago when it was at $143. It's a phenomenal amount of light, and can sustain over 2,000 lumens. The fan is pretty quiet, and the body of the light doesn't get too hot at all.

I liked it so much I bought the smaller X2 to match. They're both very well made lights, and appear to be very efficient. Already emitter swapped the X2 to 519A high CRI

    • +1

what do you use it for?

      • +1

        Illuminating dark places…
