Great for those that picked up a recent Lenovo SFF deal, but don't have DP on their monitor or TV.

This is an active adapter, ensuring the signal is properly converted to HDMI, and is rated for 4K@60hz.

Previously posted earlier this year here at $11.99, and a much better price than comparable products at ~$30.

  • Not bi directional

    • Yep. But does that create handshake issues or totally ok?

      • Neither, you can't use it to convert HDMI video to Display Port.

  • These are great quality, recommended

The Cable Matters adapter can do 4k@120Hz (and Freesync on Linux with a recent kernel) so the price is justified I think, but only if you can take advantage of those features.

  • What's the point of an active adaptor? HDMI and DP are electrically compatible. I've never had problems with passive adaptors.

    • They're not electrically compatible - what's happening is that your device is smart enough to output an HDMI signal from it's Display Port on request. This is an optional part of the Display Port spec.

Not all Display Ports can do this ! So for this reason, just use Active adaptors exclusively, they work with everything.

Maybe expired now? Showing as $14.99 for me.

  • just get a DP to HDMI cable?

    one less dongle

    • I have this adapter and it gets very hot to the point that I worried about leaving it attached all the time. In the end, bought a DP to HDMI cable instead and heating problems solved and peace of mind

An active cable has this same dongle built into the connector on the end of the cable … it's functionally no different.
If you already have an HDMI cable then this dongle is potentially cheaper…
