I don't know where the bargain is , you still need to pay for subscription

    • +30

      Just opt out of [SUBS]

        • +6

I want opt in for Woolies, I don't buy there and I don't want to see those and I don't care about opting myself out! /s

          • +1

@pizzaguy: But those are actual bargains, this is not?

            • +3

@caitsith01: I see an interesting [SUB] post, I may consider signing up for a month instead of renting or sometimes even going to the cinema.

There are many use cases you might not be aware of and OzB decided these posts are legit, despite all the drama from people who don't like it and restlessly downvoting them every_single_time.

              • +2

@pizzaguy: Right, but that's still not the core concept of this site, is it? There are dozens of sites that tell you what's "coming to streaming this month" on every service. I dunno, feels off and like a cheap way to try to generate referral links to me.

                • @caitsith01: You should absolutely unsubscribe from [SUB] then.

                  I get a lot of PS5 game deals and I ain't buying a PS5 to use those.

                • @caitsith01: A step worse is the free "loot" for games like Borderlands. Endless keygen supply without cost, and creates free advertising… OzB laps it up.

            • -2

              @caitsith01: R U OK?

        • +7
      • how do you opt out of ps5 and xbox?

      • It should be front page news that it doesn't work on mobile, despite that probably being the number 1 method of visiting.

Staff have known for a long time. But nothing is done.

    • +3

      Like.. Costco?

    • Yes, you don't know.

      Thanks for letting us know.

    • It doesn't matter if there's no bargain.

Ozbargain is weird. I called it out before. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14277928/redir

      • +2

Doesnt matter if ozbargain is weird, this has been decided as a type of deal.

        You can block them.

        • +3

The whole reason OzBargain is good is that the community decides what's a bargain.

          This is democracy manifest.

      • Plenty of people keep calling it out. This type of post should just be relegated to the forums. It’s not a deal of any kind.

  • +19

lol this is just an advertisement

    • +5

Well, it's helping me optimise my $43 investment in a Turkish Disney+ subscription, thanks to another deal that was posted.

      • your better investment would be not to pay and use high seas

    • For sentient elements?

    • +1

Doesn't matter if it's just an advert. Ozbargain is weird sometimes. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14277928/redir

  • +2

    I give it 2/10

    • +1

Yikes. Is it worth my time? What's bad about it?

      • Its actually pretty good the 7/10 is accurate. It'll resonate with people who migrated to another country for a better life etc.

        • +1

Alright. I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

        • +4

          I didn't migrate here but

          a) I live in Australia and

          b) I'm not clinically devoid of empathy and

          c) I'm not some sort of extraordinarily enthusiastic racist

…so I have at least a few friends who are migrants or have migrant parents, and can empathize with their experience a little.

So I enjoyed this pretty well-written and visually gorgeous animated film about the migrant experience, love, etc.

        • +1

Most of us currently live in Turkey, according to Disney anyway.

  • +17

I watched this, and I thought it was quite good. It's basically about cultural clashes, and what people go through when they leave their home country for better opportunities while having to meet the expectations of their parents. But I can see how it wouldn't resonate with some people who haven't had any exposure to that.

    • +5

I've had lived experience with having immigrant asian parents and i still didn't like it. you can say that it's just a kid's movie but it doesn't come across that way. all the messages seems very surface level "immigrant parents bad, rich people dumb" without any nuance whatsoever. just my 2c

    • +1

Sounds like a million Indian renters in Auatralia could relate to this.

    • I can relate; went to Kuta and got culture shock at the price of Bintang, so I overcame by drinking Bintang.

      • +5

It made nearly 500 mil , are you okay?

    • +3

What's woke about a cartoon flame and water hooking up?

      • -5

Yous don't know what we are talking about? We are talking about them!

  • +7

Fun fact: the director of this movie Peter Sohn used his own experience as a Korean immigrant in the US as inspiration for this movie.
Also, his likeness was used in making the main character (the boy) in the movie Up.

    Worst opening in Pixar history….

    https://youtu.be/gUMRoReNmQs?si=Dz-1fbQBE6kd_fDN

    • +6

Whilst opening was terrible it actually built over time (result of good word of mouth) and is near the $500m global take. 8th highest grossing film this year.
      https://www.digitalspy.com/movies/a45098433/elemental-box-of…

That said I have not seen it but will watch with the kids this weekend.

      • +2

We saw the trailer for this before the Mario movie, went to see Elemental when it released just based on that, theatre was packed, everyone loved it, went home and looked online and only then I saw all the hate for an otherwise good movie…

People seemed to have worked themselves up into a frenzy over it but nobody I knew was hating it offline

        • +2

Lot of racists online. We'll, not a lot really, but they're too cowardly to express their views in person, so they do all their screeching online.

    • +1

Holy wow that guy is threatened by minor character in an animated film. I am unsure how Lake was single handedly responsible for the box office failure that was Elemental with it's $480m USD box office takings globally.

Film was fine, dragged a bit at times but entertaining enough of a watch.

    • +5

You’re really not letting up are you?

Who hurt you…? Who hurt you…

    • +1

Ahahahaha bruh if your childhood experience was traumatic, let the other kids enjoy theirs. 🤣🤣🤣

    • +3

More like negged for using a fact to push a lie that it lost money and your terrible youtube link.

    • which facts exactly?

  • Used to have a Disney subscription back in the days, before they jacked up the price and now zero intent of renewing on the basis they no longer will supply Bluray/4k discs to Australian market forcing people like me who like to have a collection of Pixar/Disney movies to pay inflated prices due to shipping from overseas suppliers.

I was going to rant about how it's like Adobe's subscription model but those who believe in owning hard copies of 'stuff' (by stuff I mean physical media, audio cds, printed books etc) will know where I'm coming from.

    • +2

In my opinion the blame is more on the local retailers dropping discs. Disney is just an early first in deciding supplying to the two majors left in Australia (JB Hifi and Amazon) isn't worth the time.

    • Disney is a business and data shows physical media sales has declined to a point where it makes zero business sense to keep shipping and selling in Australia. You should blame your fellow consumers for not buying enough physical media. If sales were going gang busters they would still be selling them.

  • +4

How's this a deal….? waste of space on ozb

    • +2

Shhh don't complain! Big brother is watching

    • +1

So is your comment, when there are included instructions in the post to make you never have to see one of these again.

      • +3

For what it's worth, I find this comment entirely reasonable and not deserving of negs

  • -8

I didnt like it so it is making my Disney+ subscription worth less.

Austin Powers is now playing on 9Now Streaming app if anyone wants to post that.

It would be good to post this in the Entertainment » Discussion Forum so all us Disney+ subscribers can continue to discuss the service we pay for.

  • +3

I really enjoyed this one. I cried a bit. The characters are cute.

    • I bet ur cute.

      • Are you trying to hit on her?

      • +1

My wife says I am 😅

  • +2

It's another "watch once" movie from Disney. It's okay, but forgettable.
To me it was more of an midteen movie than a kids movie.

  • -5

    How is this a deal?

    • +1

It’s not. It’s a PSA. I’ve said it before, we need a PSA category

    • +4

It's for people who already have the subscription and more of a reminder that a relatively new movie has been added.

There is no need to neg somebody's effort here. Just block additions to streaming services if you don't think these are deals, so that you will stop seeing them.

      • -1

Seems ridiculous. This is OzBARGAIN, right? Not OzTellsYouInformationAboutExistingServicesYouCouldEasilyFindOnSitesThatSpecialiseInThat.

Seems like massive mission creep to start having this content and then expect users to go through and block bits they don't like.

Genuinely, what does this have to do with the core function of this site? It's not in any sense a bargain?

        • +2

Wow, you have your cranky pants on, someone needs a nap.

      • +3

Doesnt matter if ozbargain is weird, this has been decided as a type of deal.

        You can block them.

      • -2

Right, it will dilute the actual useful content here for people to just post random stuff that isn't in any sense a bargain. This sort of thing is often the canary in the coalmine for a site that's about to start going downhill. I hope not…

        • The community voted that it is useful.

  • +1

    OZAdvertising

  • +3

There is no deal here. This is just PSA. Where's the bargain?

    • I posted this above and got negged into oblivion, apparently "thing exists on a service you pay full price for" is a bargain now.

      • My neg was revoked because too many downvotes for calling stuff like this out.

  • -4

this falls into the same category as the free prime gaming posts referencing [insert whatever is free here that month] however those are also considered "deals"

there is no PSA category so until someone actually starts spamming it to a point it gets annoying nothing will change

    • Be the change you want to see in the world 🙏

    • +3

But there is a "streaming service addition" tag and instructions on how to block them.

Or, you know, keep doing this: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.knowyourmeme.com/memes/old-…

      • -1

Adding irrelevant/annoying content then expecting your users to manually block it is a terrible approach, though.

        • +2

It isn't globally irrelevant/annoying content. It is to some which seemingly includes you, but not to others.

I personally find Westpac cashback deals irrelevant as I'm not a Westpac customer, but that doesn't mean they aren't valuable to other users. Just because you find it irrelevant/annoying doesn't mean everybody does. The 99 (at time of commenting) upvoters clearly don't share your point of view.

Plenty of spam deals get unpublished, so pretending like the existence of streaming service addition deals, particularly for newly released content is going to open the floodgates of deal posts is a hollow argument. If the content isn't popular it won't get many votes and will just fall away like many posted deals do. If it gets a lot of votes and makes it to the front page, then it is doing something right to gather upvotes.
