All time low
PS5 compatible
Optimised for sustained write performance per Tom's review

The 2TB MP600 GS writes at about 4.8 GBps for over 14 seconds in pSLC mode, with a cache of nearly 70GB. After that it writes at 1.78 GBps in TLC mode… This will be better for certain prosumer tasks, but also will maintain performance with a fuller drive or after a lot of writes, scenarios you might face when using it as a caching drive

Not PS5 recommended as it does not meet minimum 5500mb read Sony requirement. Yes it may work now but no guarantee for the future on all titles.

As someone who stumped up and got the firecuda 530, I disagree. Nothing I know of takes advantage of the fast drive speeds and it’s been 3 years. The major players of drives especially seagate are linked to Sony and now that the market is saturated, having sold them for $500+.. I’m sure they are happy now to sell for a lower cost to the people who would never pay that much for what is essentially a memory card for video games.

Sony get sucked into “specs” too much. Remember, video games run fine on PC with a 7200rpm hdd - they just don’t load as quickly.

I mean people have run lower specs on PS5 with zero issues, unless you have some actual experience with something not working I’d stop pushing Sonys marketing for then - they’ll be fine bud.

    That Lexar NM790
    2 TB - $129
    4 TB - $255
    is pretty good.
Using one in my PS5 & other in Laptop.
    Can’t complain.

    • Could you link the heatsink you used pls

      • Used a Firecuda 530 heat sink (that I replaced with Lexar)

        • What was wrong with the firecuda?

          • @xxJAGUARxx: nothing - but it was 1TB only hence needed to upgrade and that NM790 deal was just in time for a 4TB for PC & 2TB for PS5

  • yup. lexar nm790 2tb in my ps5, for less than this btw,
works perfectly and up to speed

  • Apparently the lexar nm790 is not good as on os, I was going to buy it for my lenovo yoga c940 laptop.

C940, if your laptop has a 10th gen Intel CPU, then it is likely limited to PCIe gen 3 x4 SSD. With a mobile class CPU, it is not common to run heavy server setup on that, so cases where DRAMless SSDs struggle may not really be something you need to be concern about.

      • Omg thank you this is probably the best advice I have received. I have been wanting to purchase the lexar nm790 to replace my wd black sn770 1tb as an os for my laptop but have been given so much advice I couldn't understand. I was worried about the ssd being dramless thank you so much finally pulling the trigger ☺

    • It's absolutely fine for laptop OS use.
Boot times between the fastest and slowest SSDs are barely any different.

      • Thank you so much nom really appreciate the advice!

    • Hahaha really? How do you just log on to chatgpt and ask?

      • haha i was joking - read OPs name =)

        • Ohhhh 😂 😂 here I was getting excited

  • Is this single sided or double

    • If you use a hole punch and notch out the side you can turn single sided 5 1/4 disks in to double sided.

      • FDDs may be lost on some folks… back when 360kb was sufficient for data. Double that for 2 sided floppies!
