Haha so good! I feel like these are the adult equivalent of like the DC skate shoes you wanted in primary school to impress your crush, but your mum gets you target brand skate shoes. And theres nothing specifically that wrong with them, they still function perfectly as a shoe, but as you stand there at the blue light disco and watch your crush of 7 years walk up to dance with another boy wearing a fresh pair of DC's, you cant help but wonder if your kicks are the reason she didn't dance with you, or if she never liked you all along…

      • +3

it is you, it is always you

in the general sense, not nokids…….. specifically.

        • +2

Hahaha it is, absolutely, but the fact your mum opted for the black and gold version of that style of shoe allows you just enough doubt in your mind to begin high school with an iota of confidence which damn-well need, because well, it's highschool!

          • @nokidsandthreemoney: I'd never admit it outside of an anonymous forum, but my chestnut RMs have boosted my confidence. The clackity clack of an RM walking into a meeting room, you can see the other execs pause and note the tab peeking out from under my chinos, I hike my sleeve and show the apple watch ultra and in that silence start speaking. Or, maybe I'm just an overgrown high school kid who never outgrew the insecurities or my inner voice downplaying my achievements that I now try to silence with euro cars and expensive boots haha

      • +13

        Back in the day:

cool kid bully: nice shoes, nerd, who bought them for you, your mum?

Me: .. who else would have, we’re 12, ya mf.

Idk if my social anxiety would let me wear these to the pub and get laughed out by the bully young libs tho

        • +2

          Hahaha accurate!

Yeah idk, they look alright from afar, and I'm sure theyre 90% as good as my RM's, but it's when the conversation goes toward the shoe conversation that I'd be terrified of. Literally happened when I was out for work on Fri night, 8 guys having beers, bitta semi-toxic masculinity among ouselves, chat heads to shoes, everyone looked down. Internal monologue 'Thank god I wore my RM's today'. One dude had his ~hush puppy equivalents~. Everyone: "oh yeah nah, they look just as good"…

          • +1

@nokidsandthreemoney: I'm 100% sure these are not 90% as good as RMs. Even Thomas Cook don't hold a candle to RM.

            • @Budju: True, true. But I guess from a distance they sort of look the part for those who cant afford to drop half a k on a pair of shoes. Although they wont last as long. Mine are going on 7yrs and apart from one stitch at the toe coming loose, look good as new.

              • +1

@nokidsandthreemoney: It's worth just buying RMs. They honestly last for so long, you will save money long term plus have an awesome pair of shoes to boot. I used to buy a new pair of middling shoes for $120-180 basically every year because that's as long as business shoes last if you wear them every day.

Current craftsmans are going six years strong and showing no signs of slowing down. I had one replacement of the shoe's rubber soles done at the five year mark, and they returned them looking so nicely polished almost brand new. You can drop them into your local outlet and they handle all the return shipping for you free! You will save money in the long run and always have amazing shoes as a bonus. I think the repair was only $130 or something.

I also have a pair of Thomas Cooks and the soles do not last more than two years. To make matters worse, they are stupidly expensive to have replaced (significantly more than RM). I just keep as a backup if I need black shoes which is rare, so they'll last for that purpose.

          • +5

@nokidsandthreemoney: "yeah nah they look just as good"

"Thanks, they're really comfortable because they're padded with about six hundred bucks that I didn't spend"

        • Those young Libs are so mean to you Billy Madison.

      • +2

I felt that. My crush didn't even know I went to the same school, same year.

      • +3

Looking back, it's probably for the best you didn't end up with that girl, else you would be getting distracted burning all your money on her for the next 3-5 years to impress her when deep down she always liked the other kid anyways. End of the day you'll end up with a broken heart, fat, no money, no assets, a broken car, no girl.

Better to not get distracted, focus on hitting the gym, study as much as you can, work as many hours as humanly possible, save and invest everything you earn. Then when you are in your late 20s/early 30s, you'll have your house, your investment property, your stock portfolio, your nice car and all the 20-25-year-old chicks lining up for you to pick from.

Don't lose focus! especially not on a chick when you have no real value.

      • Most likely a girl today would look at you in your comfort craftsman, your horribly discounted Ralph Lauren Polo and cheap taro cash pants and would walk the other way.

        • Nah, most chicks still appreciate style, albeit generic. You're not wrong though, there is a group of women that would detest that look, however I'd contest that they're personal taste for alt style is ironcially becoming generic in its own way (nose rings and a shaved head doesn't demonstrate individuality as they think it does), and the men that dress as you've described are likely not phased by those particular women walking the other way. So I do agree with you, although would note that that type of woman would still be a minority.

      • you cant help but wonder if your kicks are the reason she didn't dance with you, or if she never liked you all along…

In my experience, most females have an innate knack for weeding our leaders vs followers. It's an after effect of evolutionary biology where they wanted the strongest possible mate to breed with. So the fact you are wondering was probably detected by girl radar as not being suitable mate.

  • From the photos, that front perspective of the sole looks so informal. Anyone who has these, can they comment if its so prominent when w9rn?

    • +1

I've got two pairs of the black and one of the mahogany. I routinely wear them with a suit and think they look fine. So comfy compared to regular dress shoes. I usually walk from the top end of Carlton to the city in them when I work in the office

      • +3

These are so comfortable, my favourite casual boot.

  • I did purchased these, however prefer the Men's Wisconsin Version, just waiting for them to be marked down=)

  • I can get ten years out of a pair of Blundstones worn every day and I do way more walking than average.

    Are these boots any good?

    • +8

Had these for 2 years, wear it twice a week on avg. Soles are wearing extremely thin, stepped in damp ground feels like water is soaking through. Wouldn't recommend for long term wear and tear

      • Thanks.

      • +3

Above is true under water condition .
I wear it 5 days a week and occasionally once a weekend. It lasts me for around 1-1.5 years.
The base get worn out base on how I wore it so I think that's subjective to the user.
I love it cause they're designed for wide feet.

To make it last longer I usually apply on a water/dust repellent spray.

It's cheap and easier to replace, hence I have few spares at the back
If paying for a 400 dollars boot I can get 4 pairs of hush puppies. I think it's worth it.

        • +2

Yep, especially if you could damage them at work anyway. I sliced one open when I accidentally hit a sharpe piece of metal and I am certain it would have made some RMs just as ruined. At least I was only out $100.

          • @Dsiee: While… The ozbargainer in me wants to agree, a year just doesn't cut it.

My black RMs are celebrating their 10th birthday this year, and they've probably been my daily wear for half of that time.

My chestnut RMs are 5 years old and probably gotten 2 years of daily wear equivalent out of them.

But it's not that, leather that's been looked after, polished and worn in for a few years just looks that much better. I don't notice the difference between Blundstones or RMs or whatever else from a distance, i do however notice some sense of responsibility for one's own belongings.

I try not to be judgemental but we're all looking for indicators that will save our time.

    • I bought the Hush puppies previously but another ozbargainer recommended the Blundstones 663. The Blundstones are much better. More comfortable as there's more cushioning.

  • +1

The browns are always on sale. Rarely the black boots. Something to do with the process or just the popularity?

  • Thank you! Just swapped out my primary boot with the backup boot, Was looking for a new backup boott this morning ! Perfect timing

  • +1

I ain't buying from Hush Puppies again. Bought 2 pairs of shoes from them last year and both wore out very quickly.

    • How quickly is quickly? Talking a year or less? And how often are you wearing them?

      • +1

One of them was only worn a few dozen times and in less than a year the top of the sides were completely torn somehow. Never had that in a shoe before and I used to wear cheap shit from Spendless Shoes as a kid. The other got worn a lot more but the soles still were very well worn in less than a year and the shoe laces for each shoe were ripping apart so I had to replace them.

    • I've had a similar experience. A few pairs wearing out within a year with 1-2 wears a week. Others lasting years with a 3-5 days per week. I'm yet to work out if there's different manufacturing regions or if it's a few of the shoe designs are just shonky.
Quality of materials has definitely dipped over the years. But for comfort and wider fit, its hard to find good alternatives that don't cost your first born child and a second mortgage.

    • I have the same problem. I like the fit and comfort of these Chelsea boots but they just don't last long enough.

  • I believe that the word you're looking for is 'cheap' not cost effective - haha! :)

  • Holy moly, they've got my size. Not quite my preferred color, but I'll take it

Done, bought, thanks op ya legend.

  • +1

They're incredibly comfortable but don't last. I think I got about 6 months out of my pair, just wearing them to the office 2-3 times a week.

  • They are comfortable
but my previous pair just disintegrated, so now i wax/polish frequently

  • +1

    Price no longer available?

    • +3

Only certain sizes are $84.95. OP please update title. My size is $126.96 :(

      • Must be some big feet you got there buddy

        • +1

Thanks for the ego stroke. You know what they say about big feet…

          cries in US8

      • You missed out.
Updated in descriptions only, they were all on sales prices before.

        • I clicked on the deal about an hour after you posted it and most of the sizes were all no longer $85. I doubt if all of them were at that price. I just checked now and the prices haven't really changed from when I looked , either.

Regardless, mods disagree and have corrected your mistake for you.

  • Lots of people seem to be saying they wear out quickly. I would have thought this kind of leather / hard material shoes would last for ages? What wears out? The stitching? Surely the material wouldnt wear out?

    • +1

      The sole.

      • ah ok, so the sole is really thin and wears out. That sucks. Do people get them third party resoled or not really worth it? I havent done a resoleing for a long time, how much would it cost?

        • +2

          Don't know, just reading comments.

You can just get the shoesmith to add a thin wearout sole that you can replace instead of wearing our your original sole. Probably cheaper too

    • +1

oddly enough, my soles were fine but the leather was peeling

      • What? How the hell does Leather start peeling? From the stitching or just the leather started tearing off, that would imply really bad quality as i have never had that happen to any of my shoes even like the cheap leather shoes.

        • +1

I think it might've been after rain/water & a lack of water protectant.
The peeling started from the creasing where the shoe bends

          • @LegitBox: hmm thats scary, for $85 i would expect much better than that, much less the RRP of $160. I was tempted to buy it but now…

            • @lonewolf: definitely not worth at RRP, but I find them comfortable enough to be worth the ~$90

              • @LegitBox: oh well, waited too long, my size is temporarily out of stock

            • @lonewolf: Today $160 shoes are shit, they used to be fine but prices rise.

  • Seems the price jumps to $109.08 when you hit men's sizes.

I bought a pair of Hush Puppies as daily drivers as to not wear out the RM's I bought after a collection of Wild Rhino disintegrated after about 6mo each. The Puppies are lasting and only just getting a little internal wear and tear after almost ?2yrs? of essentially business days. Looking for another pair to cycle shoes more and the HP's are top of my list for good value for a reasonable shoe right now.

  • Select sizes… mine are $109

  • Tried this instore, super slippery like you’re on a skating rink 🤷‍♂️

  • Own a black and mahogany (brown) pair that I purchased from Amazon over a year back. The mahogany colour very easily scuffs and looks pretty shit with minor wear. Black coating for some reason is much more resilient.

Also mahogany pair causes discomfort unless I wear very thick socks but black doesn't. Have no idea why, could just be crap build consistency.

Ok for the price but not that amazing.

  • -2

I bought a pair of these in 2020 from amazon for 32 bucks

  • +7

What advantages does this boot have over say…a RM Williams? Which I could also afford.

    • The obvious one is it costs about 1/4 and many are also clearly stating they are a very comfortable, wide boot. For someone whose wide feet 'splits shoes at the sides' the 'EE' wide fit is a massive selling point for me.

  • -1

Hush puppies are rubbish buy RMW. Poor man pays twice

    • +2

Poor man might prefer to eat than buy RMWs

    • Given RMWs are 4x the price (At least!), paying twice would be a bargain .

  • +2

Here's some tips that have helped me greatly extend the life of my shoes (cheap and expensive ones):
    * Shoe Trees - buy some, use them.
    * Good conditioner & polisher - eg Saphir, bootblack - anything but the cheap crap you find in most B&M stores.
    * Rotate your footwear - you can buy the best UK and Spanish shoes or RM Williams and they will still age quickly if you want to rock them 5 days a week.

Given the comfort of them these probably make a good beater/rotational option for people.

  • When reviewing the size 10.5US in Mahogany it is still offering the sales price "-50% $84.95" but also clearly states;

    Temporarily out of stock.
Order now and we'll deliver when available. We'll e-mail you with an estimated delivery date as soon as we have more information. Your account will only be charged when we ship the item.

    https://postimg.cc/f3ZsDgnm

With other sizes either the sale price has been removed and they are at full price or -36% or there is zero offer like the one being offered for the 10.5US.

Are they going to honor this or just play games with my funds?

P.s. I made the order but are wondering if others have purchased with the "Temporarily out of stock. Order now and we'll deliver when available." condition?

    • You won't get charged until the boots have left the warehouse (when it's in stock).

    • Order progress has no been updated and states " Arriving 12 Oct - 16 Nov", getting excited.

    • Ordered on the 17.09.23, received an update and was charged the $84.95 (06.10.23), order expected to arrive "Arriving tomorrow by 8 PM".

      • Was delivered around 12:30 today. One the soles looks a bit scuffed but in otherwise good condition, the other looks brand new as expected.

  • Ordered, delivery within 1 - 2 months!

  • You don't see heels like that much nowadays.

  • Have a pair of these I wear 5 days a week at work for over a year. Still going strong. Sure, these arent anywhere near the best shoes one could buy, but they're great value for money.

  • Thanks, got the 14s for the reduced price.

  • -4

These fall apart so easily. Better to save and by RMs

  • Just randomly checked at 3am and my size has come down to OP's price. How do these fit though? Reading through comments memtions this is for wider feet, which I sort of have. However, I usually wear just over a 44 Euro so would 45 still be fine if my feet arn't exact WIDE?

  • The leather doesn't look good. Silhouette isn't nice and the sole looks hideous. Would not buy.

  • What colour did y’all buy? I’m wondering if I should of gone the brighter option?

    • Mahogany which looks like it will go well with dark or light pants.
