Sony WH-1000XM4 Over-Ear Noise Cancelling Headphones $339.15 ($331.17 eBay Plus) Delivered @ eTrade Online Australia eBay

200
SEPP15SEPP17

seems like a pretty good deal for a popular pair of wireless over ears.

lots of discussion here (and in many other posts)

refurbs can be often found cheaper, but idk if i'd personally take that gamble with battery-equipped wireless products

    XM5 is much better.

    • so i've heard.. seems a little steep at the moment though.

      • +3

Maybe wait until Black Friday sales.

      • +1

        Literally or figuratively?

    • I will wait for XM6

      • -1

        I might wait too.

        When are they out?

    • +1

Personally i'm waiting for the Sony WH-1000XM69

      • I might get a couple of those too…

        • You 2 need for it to work anyway.

      • +1

        nice

    • Please explain why, I mean even on deals here they are ~$400 for new. What difference might I find for that money?

        Better sound & comfort.

        • Fair enough, I've not tried either, what have you found uncomfortable/less comfortable with these? That's probably more of a concern for me than sound

            @Beetleeater:

what have you found uncomfortable/less comfortable with these

            https://reviewed.usatoday.com/headphones/features/sony-wh-10…

The most obvious difference between these headphones is the physical design. Breaking the mold for the first time in generations, the XM5 look notably different from their predecessors. The most impressive upgrade is the padding, now cloaked in luxuriant synthetic leather that doesn’t look as natural as the XM4’s leatherette, but is both smoother and more comfortable. There’s also better balance, and the XM5 are a few grams lighter, making them a tad more comfortable on my head after a few hours.

            • @jv: Thanks!

Both interesting reviews, particularly as this one puts them very close with it considered a draw in most categories. I saw the comment in this is the loss of fold up cups offsetting the improved comfort which I'm with you I'd take the better material and comfort.

Both say the noise cancelling is a step up so probably worth it to wait for black friday, see if it gets closer to this price. No doubt these will be on sale then to so won't miss anything if the xm5s don't come down much

@Beetleeater: There's also a Prime Big Deal Day coming up on 10-11 Oct so worth checking then too…

Bose just released their QuietComfort Ultra Headphones.

Early reviews seems it may take the lead over Sony's XM5's…

      • $649.00

Will wait for a price error deal and snap them up for $64.90

        Thanks…

    • Is it much better or much better?

    • Do you have (or have you had) either?

      • -1

        I've tried both.

  • Got the xm5 from the refurb deal.

Sound quality is a lot better out of the box compared to the xm3 that I had. You can tweak the eq and I think the xm3 and xm5 can be similar.

Noise cancelling is also multiple times better. I also feel the pads on the xm5s are softer and more comfortable. Note, they do retain some heat after a while, the same as the xm3

I didn't feel the headphone in the case was that much bulkier than the xm3. However the headphone on the head is noticeably bulkier.

I am amazed the price of these headphones are still this high.
Bought it for AU $299.00 on 27 Nov 2020 from one of the deals posted here.
Headphone is good overall, battery is excellent but if you use it for work(MS Teams on laptop) and listening to music etc from personal phone at the same time(smart switching let's say when a call comes in), it doesn't work that well. Just something to be aware of if your use case is similar, not sure if the issue has been fixed on XM5. Apparently, it is not MS Teams aware, so if you are in a meeting already, it takes away sound from meeting and activates sound from mobile say for notifications or calls.

  • Wondering any store will price match this?

  • Has anyone bought from this store? I can’t find them in Sennheiser’s list of authorised resellers.
