    Nongshim is $4.50 btw :)

    • +1

Thanks. Was looking at the NT Catalogue (defaulted by Woolworths), which is showing as $4.70.

      • NT is probably closest store to Argentina :D

This is the 3rd week in a row for Nongshim, local Asian grocery stores often sell around this price anyway. Sometimes its 2 for $9, so not really a stand-out deal imo.

    • and still no stock on the shelves at my two closest stores since they went on sale the other week.

Wish they'd at least bring back rainchecks like Coles has.. (and fuel voucher sharing on linked cards while I'm at it…)

  • how many percent off is that spam

    • +6

40% off. Last time they were 50% was June 2022.

      • Nice

        • +6

Gone are the days when they were $2.50

          • @dcep: I was just thinking that

    • how many years will it last ? 25 ?

      • +1

        Indefinitely

  • +12

Ramen and spam. That sounds like a solid combo. Issue is it's probably too much sodium right?

    • +3

      Get the low sodium one

      • Which one is that Spam lite?

        • +1

          There's the "Less Sodium" variant

    • +7

Balance it off with the Coke Classic and you'll be alright 👌

      • I think coke zero would have better balance

    • +2

Just take half of the bowl.

    • Yes, but you only live once!

    • +1

      Nope

    • mmm army stew, the Koreans seem fine eating it

    • +1

I was gonna make joke about the sodium, but Na

    • Pretty high amount of sodium and fat + preservatives. You can only eat cheap while being unhealthy

  • Whats the difference between spam lite and spam low salt?

  • Boo no hickory smoke.

    • Can't find it on Woolworths Site, but would be included if they sold it.

    • That flavour is no longer stocked at my local Coles or Wools.

  • I've never had spam before as I was raised thinking spam sounded gross and felt like sausages where various meats can be found. Is it any good? Is it very salty? How should I cook and eat it?

    • +1

      sodium nitrate

      • +1

sodium nitrite in spam, no idea if one is worse than the other

        • +1

Nitrites are better than nitrates but still considered carcinogenic to a degree. It will be the same as eating other processed foods or commercially cured meats.

In the past nitrates were more commonly used (occurs naturally in vegetables like celery etc) but they are know to be significantly worse.

Go the low salt, or hot and spicy (if you like that sort of thing), the bacon is good too.

We often slice it, pan fry until it's a bit crispy then serve over rice with a fried egg and Asian greens.

Or dice it and stir fry it with asparagus and zucchini then toss it into spaghetti.

Can also use the low salt one like a ham steak, serve with pineapple and tomato sauce…. or just make a pizza with it.

      It is pretty versatile.

      • +1

        Versatile, convenient, and tasty.

In moderation, nothing wrong with it, no need to hate.

    • +1

Try B2 Canned Pork Luncheon Meat 397g Can much better

    • Fresh out of a can with a spoon, cooking optional.

    • -1

I used to cook them on an aluminium foil on a tray in the oven but now i cook them at 200C for 25 minutes in the air fryer.. just slice them thin put them in and go have a nap for 25 minutes they should be done.

I also do microwave rice for 12 minutes just use cling wrap and rice and water in a bowl.. put a plate under neath in case it overflows or the water vapour over flows but yeah add some olive oil in the rice and water comes out thick and juicy.

      Life is good.

Interesting. The kids haven't asked for spam in quite some time.
I think we can keep our improved diet for a bit longer.

    • I don't like to sign them up with deals using their emails for sure

Thanks op, dinner sorted for the week…instant noodle, spam and coke. 😅

  • Costco has 1.81kg cans for $17.99, works out to $0.99/100g.

It comes in a square pillar shape, so you can cut square slices with 4 rounded corners.

    • I was imagining you cutting up groups of smaller cans

  • +1

tfw meat is same price /kg as noodles

think the college kids got it all wrong they could have lived like kings and had spam all day

  • +2

    Up voted for SPAM :)

B2 Canned Pork Luncheon Meat 397g Can From Asian shop tastes much better and I get them for $3:50

    • +2

Wasn't the biggest fan of this one in particular, slightly different taste overall

The Korean ones are pretty good, the plastic lid is super helpful as well when you only want half a can and want to put the other half in the fridge for a later date.

    • Probably because it contains flavour enhancer 621, aka MSG. :D

Have not touched B2 for may be 10+, 20 years, my recollection is that it lacks texture, mushy, and watery.

Curios if they have improved, will try again.

  • +2

admin please delete this is spam

    • +1

      No

  • +5

Looks like it's going to be a Korean army stew week.

  • Tried spam, it didn't have much flavour and it's terrible for you.

How are y'all eating it that makes it worth it?

    • Sliced, dipped in beaten egg with chili and black pepper then fried. Great with fried rice or even just bread.

    • +4

Fried spam and eggs, over rice or mi-goreng, soy sauce and sriracha for the added sodium.

    • Wow. Spam, spam, fried eggs and spam with beans and spam.

    • with rice it is beautiful by itself it feels kind of weird personally kind of like eating pizza with no cheese or toppings

  • -2

    Glorified dog food

    • +7

You’ve eaten dog food before to verify this?

  • some people just like to Spam this website….

  • +1

Surprised no-one has suggested Spam Musubi. Was my favourite food in Hawaii!

  • +3

    I see spam. I upvote

  • +1

I was in a desperate place in a desperate time when I tried spam.. for a while I ate it until I noticed how congealed, processed and fatty the "meat" was. Literally seeping out white matter on the sides…. Even at my lowest, and I was really, really low at this particular point, I stopped buying it after 2 cans.

But hey, each to their own. Crisp it up nicely and close your eyes and maybe you will like it.

    • +1

Are you sure you weren’t buying canned corned beef? None of the spam flavours I’ve tried have had white matter on the sides, corned beef gets that white fat on the sides/end though.

      • I am sure, I tried corned beef once during that same period in my life. I barely had half of a can, it was much worse than spam.

        • Did you have it with rice?

Spam by itself feels like having butter with no bread.. something is missing.. but with rice it is divine.. it is like having kfc with rice it just gets better

  • Is Spam now trendy in some ironic hipster type way?

    • Not that I know of. But I'm not a hipster just friends with some.
